They opened with the first 4 tracks at the Hollywood Bowl as a tribute to Broderick after he passed away.

they've played tracks from this live, at least once with Broderick Smith at Gizzfest in Australia (please correct me if I'm wrong), and most recently last year at Hollywood Bowl as the opening 4 (or so) songs. If I am not mistaken, Broderick was supposed to be at the show, but had only recently passed away before the show, so they used a recording of the vocals and put images of him on the big screen... it must have been a pretty emotional moment

The Hollywood Bowl opening was fantastic, if not bittersweet

Amby's late father was an icon of Australian blues. Ambrose released a song he co-wrote with him this month (DUD).
Brod's performances from the 70s are killer, you can really see where Ambrose got that stage presence. Check out Way out west by the Dingoes and Carson live at Sunbury 1973 (th-cam.com/video/QsBcG_OW6kE/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared).

It took a good while for this album to grow on me. It's still not one of my favourites but I don't hate it like I did first time round lol.
Broderick was born in England, moved to Australia when he was about 10 or 11 I think.
This is their second album, 12 Bar Bruise was the debut. Willoughby's Beach is an EP. Teenage Gizz is a compilation of their first EP Anglesea, some old singles and an unreleased track.
Here's the background info for this album! It's a long yin lol, but I love how scrappy the recording process was for this!
"Some time in July 2012 we played a show in Castlemaine with Brod Smith. He's a crazy-genius-western-nut-ex-rocker and is also Ambrose's father. This was not long after we had collaborated with him on the recording of Sam Cherry's Last Shot so we performed an off the cuff version of that song to half-a-dozen confused locals. That got me thinking about trying a multi-song, read-along, narrative based, western musical record. Brod seemed keen to compose a story and provide narration so Cavs, Lucas and I raced to my parents garage and recorded Fort Whipple and The Killing Ground. You can hear my parents dogs barking in the background and my dad banging on some old rusted saw blade. I didn't really have much of an idea about recording back then (still don't really). I think I had 2 microphones and I was recording onto this hunk-of-shit-but-kinda-awesome digital 8 track machine. We had no mic stands so one mic was taped onto a shoebox in front of a guitar amp and one was hanging over the drum kit boxing ring style from the roof truss. I sent these recordings to Brod and he wrote the first chapter of Eyes Like the Sky that night and send me a recording of him reading it into his computer mic. It sounded kind of fucked up so played it though a guitar amp, recorded it, and synched it to the next recording we made which ended up being the title track. Brod and I went back and forward from there, sometimes the music inspiring the words or the words inspiring the music. It all came together pretty fast. So as you may be able to tell, it is flattering and bemusing to me that people would want to listen to this fried, weird, lo-fi record of ours. So thank you very much! Enjoy, Love Stu"

King Gizzard played the first Four song's from Eye's Like the Sky live at The Hollywood Bowl June 21st 2023 as the opening four songs, they hsd to use the recordings of Broderick Smith's voice because Broderick had passed away not long before, Gizz also played the Eye's Like the Sky live back in 2018 with Broderick narrating live

psyched you're doing this one! you may want to pull up lyrics to read along with for this album, the audio quality on the vocals is pretty rough at times

Broderick was a western actor and blues musician, so thats why he doesnt got much of an Aussie accent even though he is an aussie

    This was a surprise!
I believe the story goes that Stu, cavs, Joey and Ambrose? Went in a woodshed and recorded the music. Ambrose's dad is the narrator!
12 Bar bruise is their first LP. Willoughbys beach was an EP and Teenage Gizz is on their bootleg page.

They do have live performances of this album but if you want to listen to the story you’d have to listen to the whole album in full. I’ve only listened to it like 3 times and it’s an adventure

Did not expect to see this one uploaded! This whole album's pretty good, and I think you'll enjoy it.
The recording of this album goes back and forth between the band (mainly Stu, Cavs, Joey and Ambrose) and Broderick writing and recording the story on his MacBook. Sometimes the band would play the song and Broderick added narration, sometimes he wrote a part of the story and the band added music to it, it goes either way.
They do sometimes play songs from this album live, sometimes just the instrumental and sometimes with Brod doing live narration (and recently with the narration heard on the album, as Broderick passed away last year). They played the song The Raid live on the show ABABCd (which King Gizz made the theme song for), and some other songs from this album across their journey.
Willoughby's Beach isn't really considered an album by the band or the community, its' more of an EP. I personally say it's a mini album, not long enough to be an album but too long to be an EP, so 12 Bar Bruise would be their real 1st album, making this their 2nd.
I've only relistened to this album maybe 2 times and I don't really remember it well, but next up is Year Of Our Lord, where the story actually starts to happen.

This album is perfect proof King Gizz NEED to an original soundtrack for a movie. It would be metal as fuck.

you probably want to do the following tracks in pairs of two or three as this track is more of a prologue to the record, after this it kicks off properly

You should pull up the lyrics! It's hard to hear if you just listen, but it's actually a cool story (and obviously a great soundtrack)

    Early Gizz Timeline:
Debut Singles (Ants and Bats/Hey There + Summer/Sleep) + Anglesea EP (compilled in Teenage Gizzard)
    Willoughby’s Beach (EP)
    12 Bar Bruise (Album 1)
Eyes Like The Sky (Album 2)

Once again asking you to install an adlbocker lol
Willoughbys was the first EP they put out, Teenage Gizzard is a collection of songs that were originally only released as singles, and a couple that never got a studio release
This, like Sketches, is one that gets slept on by Gizz fans, as does most of their early work, but it's a great album

This album is a cool little thing, I hope you enjoy it. 🙂I will say *all* of these songs sort of bleed together, but your "less than 2 minute" format will probably be fine. The only thing is if you want to finish this album before Flight b741 comes out, 🤷‍♂but it's your call.
