@robert Cabral what u try to "teach" is super basic, almost self-evident , the real question is how do you make a dog hold the object when bringing it to you so you can gently take it from his.her MOUTH without him/her munching on it and biting your hand accidentally. Especially if the object is small and u got to put your hand to the mouth of the dog like a tennis ball on a big dog like a GSD/Malinois etc. Of cource you can tell him to leave it and u can collect it from the ground but thats not what we want do we? So how do u approach munching?
This is perfect This is the exact way I play with my now 11 month old Dobby, Nyx. You were absolutely spot on when you mentioned years ago about playing 2 ball with the exact same size, colour and age. Nyx is 100% accurate on picking the ball that is only 2 weeks newer. Crazy. This has been rectified. Again, appreciate what you're doing. Love the content. Cheers
LOVE THIS!!! Thank you for answering my questions the past few weeks. Truly helped me, my sanity, and my pup. This vid couldn't have come at a better time. We just started training with toys and it is WAY more enjoyable for us! Our relationship has gotten stronger because of your vids and guidance. Those who had not subscribed or joined - DO IT NOW! I wish I had done it sooner!
classy, simply the best, condenses years of experience and makes it so digestable for everyone. THank you. Got one of those MRS magnetic balls but it was costly , can I still do this with a different ball? I have a 6 month old Pitbull pup, I play flirt pole with him.
Lovely)) But when my dog sees another toy in my hands, he just drops the previous right there where he found it and comes to me with empty mouth 😂 I try exchanging for treats, sometimes works, but tough to achieve still.
Well, not even knowing what I was doing, for once, I was doing something right, lol. This is how I play fetch with my dog, and she loves it. I like to let her "win" at tug. Then she shares her toy with me willingly.
Great stuff Robert. i also teach two ball first , and play tug. Then move onto just a rubber ball with no rope once the dog knows that the ball gets thrown again : ). Sorry I can't join in the live streams but I'm being stalked/bullied online and then complaints get made. I know who they are but not much I can do. Thank you : )
Hi Robert. Great video, wondering if you could make a video or at least answer this question. Got a 8 months malinois and i'm a little frustrated because he has no work or ball drive. Can you tell me how or if i can fix this ? Have to mention that he has drive when doing bad stuff ( chasing cats or other dogs to play with). Thank you !
My tip for owners who are having trouble playing fetch is…keep trying! If something doesn’t work for your dog try with a different toy or do something different…read your dog! My dog plays fetch but only for a few throws. This is completely fine. It’s not like I’m trining her in competitive retrieving or hunting.
If my border collie doesn't bring the toy back and drop it into my hand, I turn around and pretend I'm leaving, like she's bored me. If she's not looking at me I'll call out "bye!" and walk/run away. It's been working really well.
Okay, now how did you know we were headed out to play keep away, I meant fetch. Now let me give it a shot. I was close but I didn't play long enough before trying to take the toy. Thank You!
Our Mali/ boxer mix (fantastic dog by the way) isn´t that interested in running after toys in the first place. Digging up and hunting rodents seems to be more fun. Will try to inspire her more, she´ll go and get things if her pals are interested, mainly so they can chase her :)
Off topic. Sorry but watched a year old video that you said ask you anything. I have 2 IGs - an 18 month and a 4 month. 18 month is sweet and reserved. 4 month is bold and all puppy energy. The older goes upstairs when she has had enough of the younger but… I can tell she is feeling neglected (which is breaking my heart!) I spend a lot of time either supervising and training the younger or keeping him from nipping and harassing her (the older). She needs more 1:1 time for play and cuddles. Is it ok to kennel him so she gets her time? Other suggestions? This is my first time with 2 together and the pups are my children so I feel horrible that she feels neglected and it’s all my inexperienced fault.
Is there a way to make a very non-toy motivated dog that won’t chase balls or toys interested in some kind of toy game? My sweet great Pyr doesn’t care for toys or balls and it made me curious if there was any way I could introduce such a game in a way that would be appealing. She has prey drive and will go after and catch animals, and has already dug up several moles and given them to me still alive when I ask her to release, but could care less about a thrown ball or tug toy. This isn’t a problem, but it definitely made me curious if this is something we can and should develop or if I should just write it off as her not being toy driven
?question? Hi Again Robert! -Great advice Very much Thanks! -But how do i get the dog to not drop the first ball at a distance, (he comes back without the first one, -for the next ball) but i always have to send him to get the first ball far away, before i thro the second ball in my hand. He has become a lttle "claiming" of the balls. When hes tired he often lays down at a unreacheble distance from me, -and bite the ball and "have fun for him self". i have always demanded to get the ball in my hand, is that wrong.? (i always use a tennisracket to get greater running distances.) I have a ADB purehuntingbreed. Thanks.
What if you're doing the two ball technique and the dog does drop the ball far away from you and throwing it between the legs doesn't work? What do you do then?
My dog runs to get the toy, picks it up, and then usually just puts it down again. Once the toy stops moving, he seems to lose interest. Should I put the toy on a rope and reel it in to keep it interesting?
only throw the ball about a meter away and when the pick it up and face you grab it and play tug. using a ball on a rope will work best for this. slowly increase distance once the start to get the idea.
Encouraging the dog from playing? Is that a positive reinforcement? Can a malinois puppy teach to that program of yours? Will be glad to hear anything from you so that i can apply it to mine.. Thank you sir..
Hey Robert, my dog loves fetch in house/the garden, but when we're outside most of the time he'll just chase it and then get distracted by smells, leave the toy and start sniffing. Any tips?
My dog will usually run to the toy, give it a sniff, and fairly reliably comes back to me but doesn't bring the toy. Any tips to encourage her to pick up and bring the toy?
My dog brings the toy back but the problem is he's obsessed with the ball 24/7. From when he wakes up in the morning till he goes to sleep. My question is how to get him out of that frame of mind
Baby my Great Dane is starting to get the idea of fetch. She likes to give you your toy, but wants to keep it too. She throws her toy at me now. Mostly my head.
My doberman drops the first ball, lets me throw the the second ball, collects the first ball then goes after the second ball. She then has 2 balls and I have none 🤣

Very simple, but a high level dog training video. Great communication with the pup. I like it

Yup. My dog is the same. Doesn’t have a high toy drive.

Where can I buy those magnet balls you’re using?
magnet balls, so nice ha ha ha. By the was, Thanks a lot I was doing it the wrong way...
Gorgeous.
What if you're doing the two ball technique and the dog does drop the ball far away from you and throwing it between the legs doesn't work? What do you do then?
2 ball is mainly for dogs who don't. drop the two. use a long line to get the dog to bring the toy all the way back!
My dog runs to get the toy, picks it up, and then usually just puts it down again. Once the toy stops moving, he seems to lose interest. Should I put the toy on a rope and reel it in to keep it interesting?
@Nalesh Hewavithana I have. When I get interesting, he drops the toy far away before coming back.

@@christy0202 I'll give this a go.
So how do you get them to phase 1?
For the second demonstration, what if the ball you're using doesn't have a string to pull?
I just shove a ball into an old sock and tie a knot at the top.. Home made fetch & tug toy.. My pup loves it!
Encouraging the dog from playing? Is that a positive reinforcement? Can a malinois puppy teach to that program of yours? Will be glad to hear anything from you so that i can apply it to mine.. Thank you sir..
By the way I'm from Philippines..

my mal drops the ball on his way back waiting for me to throw the second ball very frustrating cause i have to go get the other ball
My dog chases the ball while its moving but does not care to pick it up

our dog definitely enjoys when we chase her and try to take something away from her best.
don't chase your dog!
@@RobertCabralDogs yeah it's one of the most counter productive things ever.
@@RobertCabralDogs i was just commenting because i heard you said it's "no fun for the dog" but i read your article so i know what you mean.
My dog leaves the toy then she comes 😂
The sit/down is where I failed my Rottie! Booom.
Mine will go get it bring it back and drop it 5 ft away from me lol

My gsd is exactly the same way
@@janem291 might need to start taking 3 balls 🤣🤣
Goofy already had an out. What a goofy video.
