My Favorite Coat. I just bought a replacement after having it 5 YEARS, and it still looks brand new!!! My first was Graphite, and then I went to Black because of a Sale after leaving the Graphite at a worksite(someone is still enjoying it). It’s the perfect dimensions of long enough, thin enough, and plenty insulation down to the single digits I’ve put it through. It’s been perfect for all my travels. Mississippi Cold Rain/Wind(30°ish), water off a duck’s back. Northern MI and UP, to Ohio-Kentucky Boarder where we are seeing 7° nights/20° days with wind and snow!!! No Problem. But the MAIN THING!!! - Throw it in Laundry, it comes out looking better than when you bought it!!! It conforms perfect to your body shaping you up, and the quality is outstanding!!!! I Love, Respect, and have had Helle Hanson, Canada, Marmot, and North Face. But Columbia Soft-Shell is my favorite!! I feel I look best in it. And with the other brands, they begin to wear- and the zippers fail! Columbia keeps going and looking like a body glove. It also allows for tremendous dexterity. I am an Engineer, and thousands of moving parts would love to grab and pull me in. I never have that feel zipped up in my Columbia. Lastly, that material repels everything!!! Put your hound down, one hand knocks all the hair off the silky smooth shell. Spill a drink? A towel quickly wipes any sign away. Caught in the rain? Bring it in, and one slap flip, it’s ready to hang up of go out again. I’d love to have one in each color, my wife has the Olive Drab, and she looks so scrumptious in it!!! It doesn’t feel awkward to wear driving whether I am in the F-150 Truck, or in the super compact BMW 3-Series. Who needs the bulk of down or wool when they’ve mastered this insulation with grace and style. The zip pockets mean all your belongings are safe and protected! I love the breast pocket for my work ID, and door badging. You should really give this thing a try, and stand in front of a mirror, and you’ll understand why it’s been my favorite go-to coat for the better part of a decade!!! If I had one con, it would just be to return to the smooth interior the jacket had when it first came out, as it can attract some lint(not terrible), but shows more on black.

It's the type of jacket that you can wear under any type of coat and still be warm. Even a bullshit rain jacket that you like but it is too cold.
Wearing mine for 3 years in the urban environment of Barcelona. It's confortable, light, and really well put together. Morning walks to the Metro, and walking to and from work is now a breeze. If it was damaged or stolen I would buy one again.
Just ordered one for a mid layer under my hunting jacket. Having a wind breaker that is quiet is huge while bowhunting here in Michigan. Thanks for the review!
You make a good point about simple cotton sweatshirts @ 5:59 . I wore a cotton sweat shirt on a cold windy day and could feel the wind blowing right through it! I was SHIVERING! Then it rained unexpectedly and my sweater soaked it up like a sponge. The Columbia soft shell jacket is great for any surprises the weather might bring , and it's light weight . I finally ordered a couple of them this year. Can't wait until they arrive!
This video convince me, i have a Big North Face $600.00 coat, but that looks out of place in 40 Degree weather, hopefully this fill thew Gap wity a long sleeve drewss shirt.

Great review and jacket. Other than the velcro(lower quality) will give in after years of use but still a soft shell great for any season.

Might get a little cold at -5 especially if it’s windy but for the most part I think that’s an accurate range.
