      You’re one of the brightest content creators I’ve found on this platform regardless of content/topic.
      I’m often blown away by your videos. I’ve done some public speaking (freelancing,
      working with my former employer’s community outreach, and indivitstions. I’ve only been paid a couple times. I’d love to do it for a living, but I didn’t get started for money.
      I wouldn’t turn compensation down, but do this because I believe in the message.
      ANYWAY, you and I have similar writing styles, lots of different topics that are seemingly barely related all culminating at one conclusion that ties up your point concisely and consistently. Great work.

      Despise him. As an advocate (and user) of public transportation, the amount of money elon has wasted and convinced others to waste on shit like hyperloop boils my blood. Instead of wasting money to make a new method of PT because you don't like the conditions of current PT, why don't you, I dunno, _use that money to make current PT more attractive????_

    Nostalgia sounds like a good idea. The fallacy of "the good ol days" type thing?

    • @donwhelan768
      @donwhelan768 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with Matt, you both are two of my favorite youtubers. I would love to see a video on nostalgia.
      Also, just a suggestion but a video on how society has changed in the last 30 -50-100 years. I have a hypothesis that people were happier in the past because they were more social and spent less time working and more time with those they love.
      FYI, I have no idea why but TH-cam did not notify me of this. Would have watched it 5 days ago. Keep up the great content guys and look forward to when you got a million subs

    • @donwhelan768
      @donwhelan768 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you believe "the good ol days" were really a fallacy, Matt?
      Idn for sure but I grew up in the 90s and in a lot of ways i feel they were better. Less technology equaled more socialization which lead to better mental health and happiness. TGIF, hanging with friends, no technology we stare at like machines. No idiots filming themselves doing nothing on tiktok.
      In the 1980s-2000s my dad could afford to raise 3 kids on a cop salary. We went on regular vacations, lived in a middle class neighborhood and on my street were doctors, lawyers and teachers. The doctors and lawyers had bigger houses, better cars and took better vacations but the wealth disparity between rich and Middle class didn't seem that bad than.
      Also, going back to my grandparents, who were born almost 100 years ago, they were born poor but my grandfather went to war, cam back and worked as a postman and had a family of 13 kids.
      That was fairly common, their neighbor had 12 kids. He paid $1000 for his house and raised 13 kids on a vet salary and a postman's salary. I can't imagine anyone doing that today.
      Don't get me wrong. I imagine the 50s with black and white TV and 2 channels wouldn't be great and would miss some of the convenience of the internet but I see a lot of people as zombies to their phone, computers, tablet barely going outside. People are generally fatter than every before.
      I personally think the 90s was my favorite decade but it was also when I was a teen-young adult so prob a bit biased.

    • @carolyns6105
      @carolyns6105 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donwhelan768 it was better for you because you were a child and you seem to not be a minority. Just because it was good for you doesn’t mean it was good for everyone.

    • @SteveDorrans
      @SteveDorrans 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carolyns6105 Definitely true in the UK. If you look at real terms median wages versus real terms prices (ie buying power), house prices and energy costs versus median wages (essential living costs), hospital waiting times and real terms cuts in public education spending by successive 'conservative' governments we were WAAAAAY better off in the late 90s/early 2000s.
      Unless of course you are a multimillionaire or billionaires, in which case you are doing much better now as the wealth gap between the top 1% and bottom 50% continues to widen at an exponential rate.

  • @kinnoyu8448

    I'm reading a book right now called Superior by Angela Saini that talks about the creation, history, and current status of race science. Censorship really isn't that big of a deal because what's being censored can often be snuck through loopholes to create things like dog whistles. "Fuck" may not be allowed on online games, but f.u.c.k. usually is.
    When race science went "out of style" after WWII, race scientists simply moved to other genres/specialities and renamed their attempts to prove POC were inherently inferior to whites. Free speech in the US is not censored. You just have to look in the right areas. Lookup "Mankind Quartly". A "scientific" journal-wannabe originally funded by outright racists and eugenicists decades ago. Literal "black people are naturally inferior and beneath white people, it's in their dna" that is still going (granted it has lost almost all funding).

    I appreciate the well in depth observations and work put in, but I do feel as if a lot of bias does play into points of the video. I will say the pacing is great and I liked how right when I would think you were portraying heavy bias into one direction the vibe would change and you would start leaning into an opposite direction! Great video design all around even if I may not agree with everything said in it, well done!

    is so tough to define “free speech” as one persons idea of free speech is someone else’s idea of slander/hate/misinformation.

    • @justanothernick3984
      @justanothernick3984 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Precisely.
      That's why free speech is a myth. We shouldn't advocate for free speech but for diplomacy. To keep the Overton window open and as wide as possible to sustain a conduct that reduces violent reactions. The opposition must be able to voice their concern, otherwise the establishment would run away with influence, toppling the balance in the political system. This is why the need for insight into our own biases is key because none of our systems hold the solution in itself but the core is in keeping the balance.

    Nice segment and welcome back. I like your analysis approach: "language is the format, even the content of a human thinking process thus his worldview" That's a part of transformtional linguistics and European philosophy "I think, then I exist".
    I remember once a lecturer asked us (decades ago) what the business model of facebook was? I answered "Selling either the processed data and/or the the raw information of the users to political/anyctical entities"
    All class were laugheing, and I was blushing to the point I felt my own ears being overheated, till he said to me "you're A+ to me." Was it a good day of my life? Then yes but much later no! I got C- from the very lecturer for rejecting a full scholarship out of nowhere offered by a very notorious political institute. I'm saying this to let everyone know even in colleges people know how to polish apples or be forgotten forever (depending on their own personal privileges to move on or get destroyed).

    Nostalgia isn't what it used to be... 😊
    To tie this vid into the Nostalgia subject... I am nostalgic for web 1.0, when you could read anything from anyone anywhere. When we were treated like grown-ups, capable of making our own minds up. Not curated silos, the sheep rounded up into echo chamber pens.
    I also wish that American divisions didn't propagate into global platforms. There are 192 other countries in this world. Get over yourselves...
