    I'd say you can start one anytime and doing it for the right reasons is what to do it for. For me its helped massively with self-confidence (even if it doesn't sound like it 😂)

    Gavin takes being unique to a whole different level and manages to get Adam to help him. Where as Adam's channel is very artful. His drone intros are magic. Can't wait to find out what they're up to, should be epic. Rock on!

    "not do it for the money"... I think this is very true. If you have fun making videos and sharing your knowledge than it's the right thing to do and it doesn't matter which year it is or who watches your channel at all.

    I jumped straight in at the deep end with TH-cam and vlogging. Photography is the easy part compared to Vlogging, video editing and filming yourself on location. Being yourself and learning to relax is key.

    Great video as always Greg, i started my channel just over a year ago at age 55 after much deliberation, i wish i just went for it when i first thought about starting a channel, don't procrastinate.
    My advice would be "Just Do It" don't wait another day.
    Hey Gavin, my channel is based here in New Zealand like you mentioned, I've yet to find my rhythm but i'm working on it, trying to develop my own style. Cheers.

    NIce video. I started a channel last year and it's been a fun experience to push myself to learn new skills and put myself "out there" BUT man it can be frustrating spending so much time on the videos just to get 30 views... It's interesting to hear the opinion of people that I think are successful on TH-cam - gives me some inspiration that someday I'll get there with my own channel. Thanks for making this!

    Some people are naturals in front of a camera, most photographers probably don't fit into that category, I'm a good example of someone who could never go down this path, but absolutely there is room for more new blood in the You Tube vlogs. I follow all of those in this video, Thomas being the one I have followed the longest, all offer something different. I know at some point I will grow tired of all of you, but then I will have moved onto other vloggers. It isn't anything personal, but we all change what we want to get from who we follow. I have just checked, and I am subscribed to 176 channels, all of them were interesting to me, otherwise I would never have followed them, some are no longer putting out new content, some I have already seen all they have to offer, and some are fresh. Keeping fresh is the key. I have to say, everyone in this video are still exciting my interests, and that is the key. People like Fro Knows photo will not change, but he aims at new photographers, so as the old ones go, new followers arrive. Horses for courses I guess. I'm not a landscape photographer, I just love watching others enjoying their chosen genre

    Really good to hear from the people who inspired me to start creating youtube videos. I've found with myself, that its pushed me to get out and take photos. Also having to explain to the camera my competition etc has helped me see things i might have missed if i wasn't saying it out loud.

    Not what I expected to hear. I actually Loved everyone’s comments it was very encouraging and I feel like you were all talking directly to me. Why? Because, I am new, I am crap (I expect I will improve), I am a woman, I do landscape, I do things my own way. Also, I am a little chubby. Should be a shoe in.

    Great to hear, that the "big guys" think it's worth. I started 2 or 3 months ago with my landscape photography vlog and it makes so much more fun than I ever expected. And I think this point alone is already worth starting. It was definitely not a fail for me, not at least because of your help, Greg. Thank you again for your great advices in border of your online course. Absolutely recommendable by the way!

    This is such a great video! I totally agree with everyone on the subject. I feel that it is never too late to start a TH-cam channel whether it is a photography channel or a travel vlog. It is a great way to express one's creativity and personality. One bit of advice I would give to someone whom would ask me the same question is to have fun! It will always make a video more enjoyable and the viewers will be able to tell. I am looking forward to finding out about the assignment when you are able to reveal more!

    A lot of really good insights in this video. It's all about being genuine, passionate, and experimental. In order to be true to who you are, I think you have to think about what kinds of videos would you keep making if no one was watching your content? I think the great thing about TH-cam is that no one knows who you are, so you're free to make mistakes and figure out your style.

  • @G0FUW
    @G0FUW 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Having seen some lesser known vlogs that show zero originality, I think the advice about having something different to offer is really important. The learn along with me kind of thing is OK but has a limited audience, some of whom are watching in the hope that you crash and burn. Education, inspiration and entertainment would be my three watch words and, in different ways, you and your f4 co-conspirators do just that, which is you and they are popular.

  • @DiegoMcCartney
    @DiegoMcCartney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some good thoughts here Greg. I agree as well it’s worth it. TH-cam is one of the few incredibly interactive platforms out there, and if you’re a photographer you can really story tell on TH-cam versus something like Instagram. Where someone will look at your photo for 3 seconds double tap and move on. Here you get a chance to tell the story of how it was made. Honestly even if you’re a terrible photographer you still have a good shot at gaining a following if you’re personable and charismatic etc. TH-cam is the place where great works is rewarded as equally as entertaining personalities with alright work. 🤷‍♂️ I think it’s great! Ha, I somehow manage to get views despite my terrible personality and crappy photos!

    It's always going to feel like you're late to the game, if you see even one or two other people already succeeding. But, take it from someone who has been doing this (and mostly observing from the sidelines) for 15+ years: you never know how much bigger something might get. You never know how perfectly suited your own personality and style might be for a large audience that loves to follow your adventures and support you. So, don't be like me and sit here thinking, "oh, it didn't even count as 'saturated' 4 years ago? I almost started a channel 10 years ago!"
    GO FOR IT!!!

    Getting started is the hardest part for me. I would also say it is good to have a basic outline of what each video is going to be about. I've tried making videos by just going out and shooting whatever it is I'm doing. When I get back I have a bunch of footage with no real direction. I'm sure others can make that work but I've learned the hard way it doesn't work for me.

    So here is my channel idea: how about someone goes around taking photo workshops and shows us the differences between places, leaders, costs, etc. It would be of interest to the viewers and a platform to promote the workshops

    My question is if I wanna start a youtube photography channel do I have to grow a beard like Nick Page, wear sandles like Gavin Hardcastle, to be grumpy like Adam Gibbs and chasing trees like Thomas Heaton? BTW Greg... I so jealous of you B-rolling the F(antastic)4. Obrigado
