A thing of beauty indeed, Back in 1998-ish I worked at the BBC and managed to get to go into the Tardis as Dr Who was not being filmed at the time, and yes I got a photo of me in the doorway of the Tardis, So a childhood dream came true. Sitting in a backlot with hundreds of other props etc. Out of the corner of my eye and the biggest gasp ever taken, I saw the magical blue box. Cheers.
I had one of these when I was a kid, as well as the Doctor. Loved it. I’m not sure what happened to it now. I always wanted the Giant Robot figure shown on the back of the box.
I love how cute and simple it is. It's just a big old box. Very 70s and very British. As it should be. As someone who grew up in the revival era, I'd be expecting it to fold out into some kind of console. But it doesn't , it's just a big old box. Truly simple, honest toy. Gorgeous
Absolutely! I think that is part of the sheer nostalgic charm of it - and a real indicator of the investment of imagination in our (my!) formative play days! As you say, these days the expectations on toys over imagination are pretty much reversed. And in some cases that’s probably right and proper, but as you say, the simplicity of this just fills my soul!! 🙏🏻
I'm happy you found your long-awaited toy holy grail. My toy holy grail was the 12'' Galoob Inspector Gadget figure, and I eventually managed to get my hand on him. He wasn't exactly cheap, but he's in pretty great condition (except for one minor component).
I wanted this so badly. We couldn't afford it. My dad built me a TARDIS that actually flashed and wasn't bad. Even had some internal moving parts. I did have the Tom Baker figure and I remember his outfit actually being quite meticulous. I also had a Dalek who spouted "Exterminate" etc. although once I stupidly put him in the bath, he didn't speak much anymore.
I had one of these circa 1979 (aged 9) and absolutely loved it. My mother at the time resented paying whatever this TARDIS originally cost, as it was "mostly stiff card, very cheaply made." As you say, the TARDIS in the TV series doesn't do what this toy does! I understand the rotating chamber was based on a Star Trek "transporter" toy that works the same way. Thanks for sharing.
I have this....LOVED IT TONS. Best toys I ever had in the 70s.....mines near mint. I had it in the 70s but it played with to death, my new one is mint thank God. K9 is not on the box as he came out a year or 2 later.
I’ve still got the one I got for Xmas 1979… It is in fact a re-modelled MEGO Star Trek transporter; that’s why it makes the Doctor disappear/reappear (which is NOT what the TARDIS does).
@@timetravellingtoycollector4149 Well, it was 30 years ago. I think it was Dapol if I recall correctly and had toys of Ace and The 7th Doctor. I've got a collectable action figure of Amy Pond and a Cyberman action figure from New Who.

What a brilliant nostalgic video ! I had this TARDIS and I had the giant robot, however I still have the 4th doctor figure with his hat !

The best present I ever opened on Christmas Day 1977 😍
This is honestly fascinating! I never heard of this specific TARDIS toy until today. Love learning more about the history of Doctor Who toys
I have one of these my mum bought for me, perfect condition

Ultra rare find. Nice to see this
I had this TARDIS back in the late 1970s - it was awesome!
This is how the Stat Trek bridge set transporter worked.
Finding a Holy Grail is a great feeling. found my G1 Megatron in the foam tray for $1.00 at a garage sale!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!
Actually huge, I'm happy for you!
I had one back in the day, along with a Giant Robot and Tom Baker :)
thats a really cool Toy, kids today don't know what they're missing out on
I can only agree! I mean they get a lot of cool stuff but the need for imagination is less and less I fear!
Cool
Yes, I had one back in the day and the Tom Baker figure. Childhood memories.
The power of imagination!
Functionally identicle to the Star Trek Transporter...from the same company I think.
This is such an awesome find! It's very 70s and little jank lol, but I really like it :)

Ahhh - the bath was a play environment that as a child claimed many of my beloved toys, one way or another!

Thanks for watching! The memories these things can generate sure are powerful. 🙏🏻

Isn’t it fabulous?!? 🙏🏻
@@timetravellingtoycollector4149 Oh I love it, but then it was my fave toys as a boy and Im so proud to own the full set....I still love em now.

Why did I miss lay my Tom baker tardis ? What a fool 😮
I had a toy TARDIS once. It was nothing like this one.
Cool - which variant did you have? A Dapol one from the 80s or something else?

But how much DID you pay for it?
Just over £100!
@timetravellingtoycollector4149 I too remember these in the shops back in the day!
@timetravellingtoycollector4149 You were robbed! 🤣
@@marcse7en In fairness I’d have felt more robbed if I’d gone for the ones asking upwards of £300!
