    RIP Melanie Ham⛪ I used to watch you both daily. It's been so long since she made a video and found out about her passing today. She was the reason I found your videos. Great live stream Angela.

    Needed a conch shell for an applique on a quilt. Got a picture, drew my version, made pieces with two fabrics to give it depth. Sadly, it still looked flat, so I decided to thread-paint in the shadows. The shell colors were variations of peach, and I used a medium brown to create the shadows. It was a fabulous result. Thanks for your take on this, Angela.

    I hope this isn't too late to reach you. I saw this and left for Africa for a month. I wanted to let you know that I dreamed about what to do for this month and came back and took my finished feather challenge quilt off the wall and re-did the cente light colors. Not my favorite colors, I like the dark cool colors. They looked pale and I had grey bobbin pokers that drove me nuts. I went over the buttercup with pink lemonade, the light yellow with mint in some places and more pink over the pink. I added little designs inside the large custom feathers. Now it POPS! and it looks more balanced. Thank you for this lesson.

    Best tips! Thank you! I am trying to decide how to add shadows to some appliquéd items on an art quilt, and I think you’ve given me the courage to thread paint with pale grays and get it finished. I also got some heat-set fabric painting medium in case I need to fill in between stitches. But I appreciate the practical tips you’ve given here and may not need the paint!

    I used to do this long before I ever heard about "thread painting." I did "freehand embroidery." My daughter was very young so I copied pictures out of coloring books and created visual texture with the thread. It was helpful to not look at the individual stitches but the thread line as a whole. It has been Many years since any of that was done but after watching this I am excited to try it again! Since I have already done it I should be able to do it again, right?

    Thank you for the encouragement, can't wait to try this!!! I have a Monet panel that I want to try this on, and am not sure what shapes to get started with to thread paint over it.

    I have never thought this was allowed in sewing as a practice . Always thought it had to be clean stitches . Guess this comes under "Art free style 'category" 😅 I did some recently on my piece undid it thought it was not suppose to be like it .may be I should have left it carried on doing it

    Could you please elaborate on a false backing? Would you do some simple quilting to keep it tied to the main quilt or just bind it?

    I noticed that when you were thread painting you were taking only small second to paint over, so not all of the big feather, is that typical or when you started did you go all the way around, in one swoop?

    The Glide thread is pretty expensive. Is there a cheaper alternative that can be used in the bobbin?

    When you change thread colors on regular quilts how does it look on the back?

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It gets very thread heavy so the tension is almost guaranteed to not look perfect. Since it's a wallhanging, I don't worry too much about it.

    • @joyinstitches456
      @joyinstitches456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! A lot of quilters use a finer thread in the bobbin. I personally use so fine 50 bobbin and top.

    Hi Angela. Would you recommend thread painting first and then sandwiching for further quilting? What type of needle would you recommend for a sit down machine, I have a bernina Q that takes the same needles as my regular Bernina. So would an embroidery needle work best because of the added thread? A round or sharp tip? Also are you going to have swirling feathers again? Thank you so much.
