Pierre, you came to Lyle's life with a purpose, you became the last piece of his puzzle. This is an epic story and I'm glad that people like Lyle and you exist. Thank you for sharing this and all the best for your journey! Miracles do happen!

My heart filled with joy when I saw the title of your video today and I immediately clicked to watch! As Lyle is your hero and my hero, I have to include YOU now as one of my heroes for jumping into his time line before it was too late. I grieved hard for Lyle from the moment I found out about his passing, mostly because I knew his music hadn’t been properly preserved and I didn’t know at the time that you were both at the tail end of that process when he died so to have the news that it was coming out in a book and then all of his website content and his last recording was all a joy to behold! I will always push for you or his family to one day release the full demo of EBERHARD because just hearing him show how he was building the sounds in that snippet of the Master Class on his website…it literally made me say, “Whaaaaat is haaaaappeniiiiiing…” 😳😍. Some of the most beautiful sounds my ears have ever heard. I’ll keep praying for it. Thank you for this.

I have "As falls Witchita so falls Witchita falls" on vinyl! But as to how he was. People like him. The truly great don't need to tell everyone of their greatness. They are just humble by nature. And just being around them makes you feel great as well. It's kind of amazing. You have done really well with your channel. You can really talk to the camera and make it feel like you are in the room talking to us.

Usually I would despise someone who yells out at a quiet part of a concert but that dude who yelled "That's always Lyle!" in a lull towards the end of his solo on San Lorenzo (Travels version) had it so right...Lyle and Pat made music from a different, beautiful planet...

Pierre, thank you for this. The mixture of sadness at the loss of a friend and artistic genius is mixed with the joy of having known him and his work. We will always remember Lyle. And thank you, also, for your continuing inspiration of all of us out here! I’m finishing up a big band piece right now, and always in the back of my mind is how it would sound if Lyle wrote it and/or performed it-it’s pushing me to a higher level. Lyle’s example and your heartfelt encouragement are making it happen.

I just recently discovered your channel and became a subscriber because you have the best "learn how to play..." Videos on TH-cam. I had no idea that you were a friend of my biggest musical hero, Lyle Mays. I'm just a few years younger than Lyle and Pat so their music has been an inspirational light for my entire adulthood. My biggest fantasy is to sit at a piano and be able to play "Mirror of the heart", but alas, that is a dream that will have to remain just a dream as that is way beyond my skill level. I'd love as much Lyle content as you care to put out.

Great video!! Way to share your heart and experience. Not easy I'm sure. Especially in a TH-cam video. You did a fantastic job telling a great story and sharing your relationship with Lyle. Appreciate it.
I checked out your video of Slink. Awesome!!! If I closed my eyes, I could hear early Pat Metheny Group. Well done!! I'm so envious of your talent. I've been a Pat Metheny fan for many years. I really miss the Pat Metheny Group stuff. Easily my favorite jazz group, jazz guitarist, and live show. Lyle was such a huge part of that. Such amazing keyboard work. I saw him a few times live with the Pat Metheny Group. So much talent on stage. I was lucky to witness it.
    Cheers!

Thank you so much for this. I knew Lyle. I had the opportunity to release an album on my label of Lyle works that were awesome and have still never seen the light of day. It was the Mustang project. Did you work on that?
I took a sabbatical to follow the band for 4 weeks during The Way Up tour. Saw that show 17 times. It never got old. I would often join outside right after the show while he chain smoked and he would Monday Morning quarterback the show. I learned a lot.
He was a gentle soul. Always thought it was odd that Pat never publicly spoke at length about his loss. Maybe it was too difficult.
Thanks for keeping his spirit alive.
We have to find away to get Pat to release all the stuff in Atmos! I’m pushing from my end.
If you get a chance, check out my Pat interview on my
    channel. “Speaking With Pat.”

Was "The Mustang Project" the music he wrote for the film about Tibet? I will never forget the experience of randomly watching that on PBS back when it came out, hearing the soundtrack music in the background and thinking "Wait a minute--that sounds like Lyle!" It WAS Lyle! Really exciting. Hope to hear the album one day.

A sad day on the calendar and yet a beautiful one too; as we all today February 10 on it, checked YT for a Lyle vid remembering him, and that sad
    day.
Dunno any of you prolly never will either but we're connected anyway - & strongly - by the man's music and life led, a remarkable and beautifully memorable one. RIP maestro and a hearty handshake - virtually of course ;-) - to all us admirers.
Ima hit Send and then go find that one the PMG playing Have You Heard on David Sanborn's Night Music show. Watched many times and ALWAYS such a kick seeing Lyle's fist wave in satisfaction at the band nailing the take. To Lyle! To life! To beautiful music forever.
And bravo PP for a heckuva enjoyable Lyle remembrance.

Thank you, Pierre, so much for sharing your story here. I was so glad to find your book back in '21, looking for transcriptions of Lyle's pieces... Already then I was touched by your story, and how special your relation must have been. Your hero was a hero for many of us. He allowed you to grow, and now you allow all of us to participate in your journey, and benefit from what you have learned from him... I am very grateful to your compassion to share the music you (and we) love in your channel.

What a fantastic tribute-not just this video, but your devotion to Lyle's music, and the books and "Eberhard" recording. Thank you for that! I'm a hobbyist guitarist who is a big Metheny fan, having followed him since the "White Album" days (when I was a teen). I have those first albums on vinyl, well-worn from all my needle-dropping, trying to learn some of Pat's parts. My first PMG concert was catching Pat with Lyle and Nano V. on the Boston Common during the tour that led to the "Travels" album. The late 70s/early 80s era of the PMG has a special place in my heart, and I've always considered that era of the Group to really be the Metheny-Mays Group era. 8-) So it's a treat to learn about your musical and personal relationship with Lyle, and to hear that he left this life knowing records of his work were being lovingly prepared as a legacy. Also, cool to hear about the Beato connection; I've been a subscriber to Rick's channel from the early days (~40k subscribers), when he was mainly covering the music theory behind movie soundtracks. -Tom

Pierre, your most heartfelt video to date. Like yourself when I first heard Lyle on the PMG White Album it just resonated in a profound way. I was round a mates house way back in '78 and he played San Lorenzo; went home that evening and couldn't get the damn tune out of my head. So, nearly 50 years have passed and the baby grand is gathering dust but those melodic Oberheim overtones can still be heard blowin in the breeze....🍃🎵
    Lyle's memory lives on 🎼🙏

Oh man. Thank you so much for this heartfelt tribute to a genius embodied in human form--and thank you again for the book. This all means a lot to me. We were all so lucky just to even get to hear his musical genius in concert--but then to have him welcome us into his personal musical world--even more fortunate. Hearing you speak about his final couple of years on this earth made me wish I had tried to keep in better touch with him. Also it was quite fortuitous that you and I met the way we did, and while I'm not a believer in supernatural stuff, it's tempting to think maybe Lyle was pulling some strings from above?! haha lol. I mean, what are the odds? Who knows! Small world. Keep up your great work Pierre! Hope to run into you again down the line.

DUUUDE!!! André Mehmari’s “MaysWays” nearly killed me! All the quotes, the exact synth textures, he seemed to truly mimic Lyle’s touch and captured a strong formulaic compositional voice. I mean…if someone told me that Lyle possessed him, I could not dispute that as a fact! And I needed it. I don’t need anymore after that, just one homage. Not interested in copycats of his music, just that one that said to the world and his spirit, “Thank you for sharing your gifts with us! We love you!” And in my Wayne’s World (Wayne & Garth) voice: “We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!” 🙂💔

Pierre, I understand making a tutorial of one of Lyles songs would be too hard to convey for most students. But I'm just curious if you might consider doing a play through of the song First Circle? I love all his work but First Circle really hits home for me. Btw, Rick Beato tells a story about finding someone for Lyle to play chess with. Did you ever play chess with him? Thanks again for everything you've taught me.
Edit: I had a crazy thought, how about a Pierre channel 2 that you pick a song of the month or week (greedy I know) that you perform one of his compositions? Perhaps some of the other people who worked with you could make guest appearances and talk about Lyle.I think that would be a wonderful way to keep his memory alive. I know I ask a lot. High Maintenance don't ya know but I always believed you have to shoot for the stars.💥💫
