Thanks for posting this. It seems like everyone else posting forge welding videos are quite experienced and they make welding look _way_ too easy. Frankly, it is reassuring seeing someone go through the same trial and error that I go through.
Have you returned to this yet? I'm wondering if you have ideas where you went wrong.

I have some suspicions that potentially my single burner may not be getting hot enough. I have some plans once I get the anvil mounted on the new stand to go ahead and give forge welding another go, I think I will hold off on the billet until I have proof of forge welding success.

The single burner isn't a problem, I've only ever used a single burner and it is more than capable of dealing with what you need, IMHO you didn't spend enough time hammering on the anvil before you started using the edge (presumably to try and draw it out), you should reduce the height of the stack by at least 50% before you start to focus on drawing out the length. Hope you eventually got it sorted. Best wishes from here in the UK.

Cool background music, but it's to loud when your talking. Need to tone that down.
    Until then. Forge on

Heat til it looks like butter, hammer, scrub, flux and repeat. If you see delaminations, add a bunch of borax and it may clean that area out to be able to forge weld.

Thabk god there are other ameture smith's having the same issues as I am. I noticed your stump was a tad short for you and she wobbles. Your back will thank you if you don't have to hunch! I have the opposite issue that mine it too high and my shoulders kill me.... plus I am incapable of using all the surfaces of my anvil in the angles and ways you could! So thanks! I also learned some from you as well. Damascus is my next project when im done making my chisel sets.... have you gotten experience in coal forges? I haven't tried yet but fear it may be too dirty to get clean damascus out of it.
From your set up, it seemed spot on! I think it needed to be a bit hotter and more borax. When I forge weld like Steels together, borax is your friend. Be sloppy with it. You're going home black and stinky anyways! I look forward to more videos man!

That's exactly the reason I decided to start this channel. Every video you watch is by an expert and things look so easy but when I would attempt it the end result was nowhere close. hahaha. The new anvil stand has made a huge difference in how I feel after some time working steel. Sadly this will need to be replaced again since the new Anvil stand wants to bounce a bit in the new shop with a concrete floor.
I have not had any experience with Coal, I know it can get way hotter than propane forges which is good. I have seen videos of people forging Damascus on coal before with no problems. Hopefully my new forge will be the difference to get a solid forge weld. It is getting way hotter with way less propane consumption. Hopefully I will have a Damascus pt 2 up soon, the steel showed up this week, I just need to catch up on video editing.

May I suggest a wider base attached to the new bottom? I literally used 2x6 scrap to make a triangular stand of sorts and it works well, not bouncing at all.
Looks like I'll be getting some more coal and smacking some metal.... after I rehandle my hammer again...

The plan for the newest anvil stand is a tripod from 2x3 box steel filled with sand and shot.
Be sure to keep me posted on the coal forge!

I am pretty sure that the issue was my old forge was just not getting hot enough. I plan on giving this a go once I get the new forge up and running. I am so pumped to attempt this again!

@@ForgeItOfficial My first time was a success.. I was lucky to have a hot enough forge. If your temp is right and you clean the pieces with alcohol its no big deal. Keep going. U get that. I would use half the size for a billet if u have no powerhammer. More than enough for a nice knife.
