Knew you would find that one intriguing. Before Nightwish, Floor had her own band called ReVamp. In their songs she would swing between vocal techniques like dishing food at a cafeteria. "You want some of this? You want some of that?" She would literally cut from an operatic head voice to a growl in the span of a single note. In her recent solo concerts while singing "Face Your Demons" live, she would go clean-growl-clean on a single breath. Not too many growlers out there who can pull that off.

  • @chriso6719

This is the first song you have done that was written and recorded with Floor on vocals. The other 2 were Tarja era songs.
Marko sings on a lot of songs, for more of him with Floor: Romanticide, Ghost River, or Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. He sings lead on a few as well including The Islander and their cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes.

Check out the opener ‘shudder before the beautiful’ which came directly before this song it was so powerful and by the time ‘yours is an empty hope’ was finished we were flying, throw in the next tracks ‘Ever dream’ and ‘Storytime’ and there was not a soul in the arena with their feet on the floor. I've been a fan of Nightwish since I was 10 or 11 and sometimes I still feel like everything is new. It's exciting to see people being introduced to the band and I really enjoy seeing reaction videos especially from people who are singers and musicians or anybody who are in the music industry because it always feels educational the way that the song and the music is being explored and inspected❤❤❤
Also, can I recommend that you listen to Unleash the Archers - Awakening (full band playthrough)? I think you'd enjoy that. The vocals is, of course, slaying, but I also like seeing what's going on with the instruments.

I hope you can find the time to react to this TOP LINEUP OF MANY MUSICAL INTRUMENTS/SINGERS: The Source is the 9th studio album from *AYREON* , a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen (Ahr-Yun) Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. *_”The Day That The World Breaks Down”_* is a song that features all 11 (quite well known) main guest singers (you’ll be surprised) and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instruments are used and by which standards.

@@DrumRollTonyReacts nothing explicitly specific. The album this song is from marks a change in inspiration for a lot of Tuomas’s writing. Up until this album a lot of his inspiration was very fantastical in presentation and very introspective. This album pulls inspiration from more of a outward view of the natural world and the nuanced interactions we have in it and with each other. Part of that is the all too common bad faith, online interactions between people while hiding behind anonymity, aka internet trolls.

I played second violin in my junior high school orchestra, way back in the mid 70s. Couldn't begin to tell what the first thing I played was. Had to give it up because a broken arm in the 5th grade caused it to be painful to hold the left wrist in that position for extended periods of time. And the crowd in this video is mostly British, being at Wembley Stadium. And Floor growled on a few of her songs when she fronted After Forever and Revamp, though this is the only Nightwish song that she does, as far as I know.

Marko plays Warwick basses. Great ear Tony! Most reactors do not realize that Floor is doing the deep growls on the chorus and Marko is taking the lead role. There is quite a lot of layering on the backing tracks. One of Nightwish' heavier songs.

For Bastone I think he is running two lines. A clean and “dirty” line. And mixing it up… but you know its also in the fingers …
Nightwish is a deep rabbithole. With loads of sidetrack and solo stuff. Enjoy the ride!!!

about 7:55 ask your singer friends and professionals in a live reaction video together what THEY think when they hear and see her doing it for the first time!
this way we get to see more extensive reaction videos from people who know more and understand what she does and how difficult or easy it is to do.

My favorite song from Wacken is "Bless the Child" It is rarely done by reactors but its ethereal head banging at it's finest. If you want to uncontrollably dance around the studio, "I want my tears back," Buenos Aires show. You are too cool, it's a pleasure, thank you and well done.

Growling is not done with the vocal cords. I first tapped into my ability after my vocal cords were dislocated by the anesthesiologist during a ruptured eardrum repair surgery. I was mute for 2 months. At first I could only utter a few words before pain set in. Now 30 years later I can speak for a few sentences this way, but must rest for far longer. It's more of a vocal parlor trick for me. It did once save me from a mugging.

Marco plays Warwick basses. Playing with a pick in a heavy song like this gets you a sharper attack on your notes and provides better definition so your bass doesn’t get buried in the mix and turn into just a pile of low end sludge. behind the kick. Also easier to chug with a pick. :-)
Growling is a vocal technique and close cousin to a vocal fry. It can be taught. Many metal singers have mastered growling.

    • @DrumRollTonyReacts
      @DrumRollTonyReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

'Vocal Fry' that is something I need to look up. I have played a Warwick for about 15 years now. I love it a lot. I prefer no pick (I'm mainly a jazz player) but I do love his sound here with a pick. I usually avoid the sludge by playing pretty far to the right over the pick up. Turns the tone into having very purposeful articulations. It is taxing on the stamina tho for sure! Thanks for the good comment!

You would probably have been more prepared for Marko's vocals of you'd done a couple more of the Wacken tunes first, especially Romanticide (the harmonized vocal slide at rhe end though...) there are a couple more from that show you havnt done yet, Everdream and Song of Myself most notably.
Once those are done, read up on the backStory of Poet and the Pendulum before you hit that own so that you'll get the full appreciation of it, both from the Nightwish history side and the English literature side (Poe)
Once that's done, you, in particular will have your doors blown off by Greatest Show on Earth, paying particular attention to the minute and a half "evolution of music history" lesson Tuomas treats you to right after the first repetition of the "Man he took his time in the Sun" chorus in part III, "The Tool maker."
I can't wait for you to get to that one.

Floor is Growling the chorus and Marco sings the cleans, the song was a reaction to the amount of trolling the band got and particularly Tuomas who got a lot of hate after letting Tarja go in 2005 then Anette in 2012. I think Floor is the perfect singer for the band, she can sing it ALL and puts out all of the emotions of the songs, I always say with Tarja you had to listen to her, with Anette you knew a song was happening but with Floor you feel everything in the song from the lowest lows to the euphoric highs

This is always a fun one since there's a lot going on musically. Quite a barrage 😂 Floor is definitely growling live here, but it's possible that there are some other vocal lines (recorded by Floor) on the backing track to help amplify it or sort of harmonize/layer it. I can't tell as my ears aren't that good 😂
Video question: I *think * the first song I learned on clarinet was Hot Cross Buns 😂 I was 10. The first song on acoustic guitar was Deep Water by Jewel. My guitar teacher only chose songs that I listened to regularly for a long time until I became more proficient, and I was in a big Jewel phase when I started guitar at 14 😂
