Hey, i'm at 2:54:00 , the 6 half-empty gas cans you have can be combined together into 3 full cans so they take up less space. Some extra tips!!! When using the alcoholic bike guy to get your items from base to base: 1)the items he brings to your new base don't disappear so you can save up on storage space by leaving them in the floor backpack. 2)when moving to a different base, take your alcohol with you, otherwise bike-guy will drink it all and you'll be left with empty bottles. Though empty bottles can be thrown on the floor and on bear traps as to deal extra damage so maybe you want that. Mushrooms don't give a lot of essence. It's better to buy red eggs from trader and leave your mushrooms to rot so you can make gas bombs with them. Gas bombs can poison enemies through barricaded walls and doors so you can kill savages before they even get in. An elk(Deer? Moose?) can easily be killed by pouring gasoline on a bear trap. Light the elk on fire and beat him with a nailed board. Elk's antlers are very valuable, on par with shiny stones. There's 2 elks in Dry Meadow, so happy hunting!
I feel like the Darkwood is human incapability to face the horror of the world. We cannot accept hard truths, they break us or depress us to withering. But to not face them is to pray to an institute, a god, the forest. We cannot follow one guiding call alone, or we forsake others. I think it's in the drive to survive. In the drive to create new beings, like the face of the child in the source.
i really appreciate you doing this! i usually like listening to playthroughs while i draw/work/etc. and i only just recently found darkwood. it's nice to have a no commentary version of the *whole game.* it's really interesting!
I've watched a full playthrough of Darkwood before, but it's one of those things that's fascinating enough for me to wanna not just leave alone. I'm not nearly confident enough to play the game myself, but I still enjoy admiring the environment. Kinda like how I've enjoyed watching people play Silent Hill games before. Only, Darkwood is more along the lines of my personal fears, because dark woods have been one of my biggest NOPEs for a long time. As a kiddo, I wasn't scared of monsters in closets so much as the idea of things being outside. After all, a house can be enclosed and lit up, but it's impossible to do the same with the outdoors. The stuff in the game where the player has to hunker down at night, and ya can hear/see things darting around in the dark, definitely give me spoops.
After playing this game many times, I have a theory for what may be happening. And I think it started with the shiny stones. To me, they look like meteorites, though I haven't, at least so far, been able to find substantial evidence of a meteor shower or any event like it, but it seems the most likely, as I don't believe that this organism (the forest) to be a natural occurrence (Piotrek makes mention of bright lights in the sky, which we assume to maybe be planes, because he mentions smoke trails in the next sentence, but it's possible he may be seeing meteor showers). The only other explanation is government interference, but let's go with the meteor shower idea. A load of shiny stones fall from the sky, and imbed themselves in the ground. Look at them, do they not look like they contain the white substance that flows through the "roots" (more like veins) of the darkwood? I believe after these stones fell, this organism began to establish itself and bind itself with the local flora and fauna (I theorize that it is possibly some intelligent bacterium, the white substance may be just a mass of these microscopic creatures that emit a quite strong electrical field, among other things, though this is pure speculation on this entity's nature) . Eventually, a large tree started to grow, and the local government takes notice and begins to assess the situation. The organism (or rather organisms, I think the many act as a whole, though) also notices the government and closes it and everything else around it off, and then the madness begins. But I believe it goes much deeper than we think. The "heart" of the darkwood, and this thing as a whole, is likely in its infancy, as we see much baby imagery in the game. What does a mature darkwood look like? Well, unlike normal plants on earth, this organism prefers darkness, and will actively alter the environment to match its ideal setting. And the evidence of this is how the forest becomes more active at night, and it appears that these holes in the ground that the bugs we always see running around eventually become big enough to make what we see at the great lake, a large hole emitting some dark substance from deep underground, and, had the organism had time to grow larger these holes would have been everywhere to make it dark 24/7. (and it probably will eventually come back regardless of whether the forest is burnt down or not. if i'm correct, the pale substance survived entry into our atmosphere, and even if you burn everything on the surface, the roots of the darkwood run so deep that it will eventually return, you can't really burn roots, exactly, can you? and that's where all the fuckery started, and so it can establish itself again, in my opinion) There are also the embryos. You see faces on them similar to "the being's". I believe these will eventually grow into completely new "beings", but think of them more as extra grown synapses rather than new creatures entirely since they work as a whole. More than likely it started with a single embryo that formed after the pale substance established itself, then hard roots grew around the membrane to protect it once it was more mature (though not fully grown). After we burn those hard roots we see what I believe was once a small cloudy membrane that once housed this "heart" or whatever you want to call it as an embryo. But yeah, essentially, it would probably, if it hasn't already, completely overtake the earth with these giant hearts and then afterward it would make it eternally dark to keep it thriving and to mirror the conditions of its home planet. Anyways, that's my take on it. Always loved this masterpiece of a game, and for me it was the best game of 2017.
Greyben123 to be real honest with you they scare the shit outta me I board up everything possible and I trap the fuck out of my house and I’m still terrified
Personally the ending in my opinion is just...holy shit. It makes you wonder if all this time your journey was just a dream,or was some of it real? And the game doesn’t answer that, cause it WANTS you to go with your gut and make your own conclusion. This was an awesome long play and honestly one of my favorites...even if made three years ago lol
Am I the only one who is just heartbroken with the Musician. Like seeing the whole progression of a small boy losing his parents then slowly transforming into something no longer discernable as human and there is no good ending or salvation for him, just this hellhole that no child should ever go through, it's just so disturbing and sad. Maybe it's just me and this is only a game, this is only a story, but the thought of it happening to a child is just heartbreaking.
Such an underrated game. I was a little disappointed after finishing it, that there isn't more quite like it. I keep hoping that some day they'll release another. Even if that seems a bit greedy.
I'm watching this playthrough as I write this (taking a break), and I agree so much! Darkwood is an amazing and unconventional horror game. Fingers crossed so that we get similar and better games like this in the future. I was wondering: as you clealy have great taste, what other games would you recommend us to play or watch? ;)
I'm writing in 2024 and half a year ago the devs released "Soccer Kids Alpha". Something completely different. It would be neat to see another Darkwood, but based on this & an article by Eurogamer it seems like if there is ever going to be another Darkwood-style game it will be from somebody else who is not them. That much is pretty much set in stone. Imo this is probably also better, because whomever it ends up being they could take the formula & apply it to a different setting. While Darkwood could 1:1 be told by say a German dev team, maybe it will end up being something completely unexpected like an Arabic team applying it to their local folklore.
@@e.luotao Sorry, i missed this comment somehow. But if you're still looking for suggestions, then let me know what sort of games you're looking for, just to get an idea. I can think of so many. I've been playing games since the 80s, and i do especially look for the kinds of games that stand out, or try something experimental, anything that's not so 'by the books'. These days that means a lot of indie games.
@@Argacyan Didn't know they were still making games, i remember them going quiet for a while. It would be cool to see a different setting or location, as long as it kept the strong atmosphere, this would be a tough one to follow up on. Wish i learned how to work on games myself, i have a lot of ideas I'd like to try out... Maybe with AI someday it'll become a lot easier for everyone to make their own creations.
For those of you who have okayed this game I commend you because how do you willingly put yourself through this creepy stuff?! I could never, even just watching someone else okay makes me uneasy!
And another my advice to make trap behind door inside the hideout. When enemy destroyes door You stand in line to him and for sure will be trapped ... Sorry about my terrible english ;D
It will never burn for long enough. And even if it did, the stain it left...the stain will never be gone. That Dark Stain, born of that thing...that thing in the dark wood.
I remember finishing this game and not being able to sleep afterwards due to stress this game put into me, I was just thinking of the best way I could barricade my own room
Visiting the game again years later I struggle with tons of loot that I have to pack into workbench and all the rep that I can't even spend. Nothing feels rewarding anymore. But I want to tell you about Hardcore mod available on Nexus. It was fun playing with this mod again, even if you already know how to get all kinds of loot, you will need more of it to upgrade your stuff, you can't buy everything from vendors, and enemies get new spawn points
I want to finish this game so bad but I haven’t even got past the first zone and always end up taking breaks, never been scared, stressed, and intrigued by a game so much.
Epic vid, thank you for playing through with no commentary. That said, I would have been pissed had I spent more time playing through this game to get That ending. I feel like this could have been an amazing game but there are a lot of missed opportunities. Anyway, that's not on you obviously, loved the vid. Thanks again!
While here i am casually closing the door when someone or zomething opens it haha. I just literally spam R1 while eating chips on my other hand until the night ends hahahaha
God, this game does horror like no other. The sound design is flawless and really draws you in. Was that an animal I heard in the distance behind me or is there a savage gunning for me?
btw a few tips that made the game a lot easier for me: inventory space is almost always the biggest issue i faced. to deal with this, know that you can combine gas containers, & also you can just drop items on the floor of your hideout & they will never go away (if you run out of workbench space). also make sure you use fabric to expand your inventory & hotbar!
thanks indie, i have completed the chapter 1 following your guide. i have some different ways and strategy into the walkthrough in order to the fighting, surviving and crafting the weapons due to your right way but unfortunately i dont have receive any invitation letter for wedding event and it doesnt matter, i have some guts fight through to the swamp in chapter 2. thanks to your video and i love it so much!!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂
I am a bit confused. You say you've played this through several times but you seem literally oblivious to how certain enemies work, like how the human spiders being basically harmless if you look at them. You just keep running away from them and constantly getting attacked in the back which all would be avoided if you just looked at them instead.

It'll try to kill you when you go back to the house later in the game
Jesus, this is true Longplay!
3:52:00 The lack of feedback on harming it must have been so frustrating the first time you went to kill it.
What are you talking about? There is a health bar at the bottom of the screem.
Uh yeah my dude. There's a health bar...
Thank you for making this video I just saw the game and was hoping someone might have recorded it❤
Great playthrough! Only thing I'm not liking is how light as well as small the text is. I wish it was easier to read.
If you would play the game you would be able too see the text better.
5:35:06 Darkwood Huge Doggo is not easily burned.
No commentary, eat the granny, and killed everybody? You got me good, pal :D
What I like about this game is situational horror rather than scary images and the like.
It will never burn for long enough. And even if it did, the stain it left...the stain will never be gone. That Dark Stain, born of that thing...that thing in the dark wood.
This game looks so damn good, definitely buying it.
I was trying to decide which monster I hated the most...human spider has gottaaaaa be the worst. Thank you for the longplay! :)
I want to finish this game so bad but I haven’t even got past the first zone and always end up taking breaks, never been scared, stressed, and intrigued by a game so much.
me 1 hour before sleep: allright, I watch Darkwood, it shouldn't be that long
video: 12 hours
me: guess no sleep today
2:14:51 personal time stamp. Edit #2. 7:48:48

It's up to Courage to save his new home.
the music is so incredibly beautiful.
Goddamnit, you didn't end the dog's suffering !
This is one of the best horror games ever made, if you're into horror you should give it a shot !
this game oddly has a relaxing vibe
yeah its pretty chill, until its not.
@@IndieJames yeah lol played it for the first time today it looks really cool
This game looks and sounds beautiful
Video too short!! :D jk
I can upload it twice if youd like! :D
haha good job :)
Hay iz U. What'd you think of the game?
@@IndieJames this 2d game looks scary but it is NOT scary !
Welcome to Hanwell is SCARY !!!!
It was really short
While here i am casually closing the door when someone or zomething opens it haha. I just literally spam R1 while eating chips on my other hand until the night ends hahahaha
Way to ruin the challenge of surviving the nights... hope you had fun
@@alexraileanu8990 It's a fair way to play and hilarious imo
God, this game does horror like no other. The sound design is flawless and really draws you in. Was that an animal I heard in the distance behind me or is there a savage gunning for me?
the sound design is so fucking good
7:10:18 A whole string of unfortunate events.
14:21
*casually doesn't close door*
Thanks for uploading this. I love everything about this game, but I suck so hard at it.
It's nice to see what happens beyond chapter 1.
Has anyone ever opened the door in the middle of the night after the creepy knock-knock-knock ? 😬 I am definitely not opening that shite
3:19:09 dang, they were ready for you that time around.
caveman SWAT team
God the designs in this game are sooo fucking good, i especially love doctor's mutations
btw a few tips that made the game a lot easier for me: inventory space is almost always the biggest issue i faced. to deal with this, know that you can combine gas containers, & also you can just drop items on the floor of your hideout & they will never go away (if you run out of workbench space). also make sure you use fabric to expand your inventory & hotbar!
I never get scared in video games,I got bored playing this so I will watch your playthrough instead.
thanks indie, i have completed the chapter 1 following your guide. i have some different ways and strategy into the walkthrough in order to the fighting, surviving and crafting the weapons due to your right way but unfortunately i dont have receive any invitation letter for wedding event and it doesnt matter, i have some guts fight through to the swamp in chapter 2. thanks to your video and i love it so much!!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂
Crazy ass game.
I respect you sir We all appreciate you gameplay you do hardwork to make that video
Press F to pay respect
Sir can i play darkwood offline?
That part right at the end of day 2 scared me shitless, wasn't expecting it. Love this game.
i played this game on the nintendo switch and it was really good !!
No! When do you go down into the well!? I’m not wandering around in there by myself! 🤣
I am a bit confused. You say you've played this through several times but you seem literally oblivious to how certain enemies work, like how the human spiders being basically harmless if you look at them. You just keep running away from them and constantly getting attacked in the back which all would be avoided if you just looked at them instead.
huh, never knew that.
@@IndieJames Really?
You heard the man
He played the game wrong every single time 🤨
He’s a little confused, but he’s got spirit.
Finally finished the whole vid and it was so satisfying I loved it sm, that end is squeezing my heart
Rise and Shine! Productions did a great fan film of this game on here.
I was genuinely terrified when i watched this, but the atmosphere of this game is so fricking good!
You Play enough good... Like to watch Your adventures in darkwood. Hope them working on Darkwood 2
Excellent playthrough!
I keep getting stuck in this game so here I am
Prologue ends at 12:00
I love how you survive after Spiderman attack you just try spam 4 hit delete using Handgun/Pistol.
I do remember my father playing this game… it’s creepy and I am thinking of playing Darkwood
Whenever you killed the dogs I winced ngl
True, having to kill puppies always feels cruel.
