I’ve been doing some photography and was fortunate that mom took me to the Florida Complex League games where I could take a lot of photographs of the up & coming prospects. I got to make friends with a lot of players from the Rays & Braves organizations. Stay tuned for some videos. 😊

It seems like we often hear about many of Jackie's cards but it seems like we don't hear enough about his '52. If there were ever a grail card, that is it. Congratulations!

Thanks Redd, that Pepto Pink is a card that grew on me over time. I never chased it even though it was a key rookie. It was after looking at all of his card runs that I started to appreciate that card more and more. As for the 52 pickups…my main focus has been on sharp colors first, then centering. Yes we are Adam. We are officially brothers. What’s so funny is I met his grandson at a show I set up at and he was looking for any Ed Mathews cards. When I offered Mays or Mantles as an alternative. He answered….”not interested in those, Mathews was my Grandfather” When I looked closely, to my disbelief he looked just like him. 😳🫣🤯🤯🤯🤯
It’s a wrinkle/crease that would have this card in the 2.5 range. Otherwise it’s a sharp card that I paid accordingly for given the condition. I’m happy with the eye appeal 👍🏽
Killer Jackie and Eddie Mathews from the 52 Topps set PLUS Willie! I still need 31 cards to finish the run from 1-310 and, sadly, all of the high numbers. This is a very tough set! I have a question you may be able to answer. I understand as a dealer you don't pay comps to buy cards. What if someone wants to trade you plus give cash for one of your cards? Do dealers usually match comps for the trade?
I can only answer for myself. As a dealer matching comps in a trade is often how both parties walk away happy, unless I’m giving up a more desirable (liquid) card. For example a numbered autograph rookie of Anthony Edwards worth 1K for 5 cards worth $200 each. Then I’d expect more value because I could sell that 1k card a lot quicker and have the money to reinvest, over 5 cards which might take longer to sell, and at times taking a hit over time in value. It all depends on the cards in question. I’ve made trades in which I’ve given cash and cards for a card they were giving up worth more than what they were taking in because that person only had high end cards to trade. I hope this answered your question 👍🏽👊🏼

wow.. i could never trade a 1953 topps mickey mantle psa 6…. thats a banger card… even tho u got a mays and a robinson I dont think I could trade that for the 53 mantle… other then his rookie cards that 53 topps in my opinion his next best card…And actually the card image to me is his BEST card based on the image... glad ur happy with your trade tho..
I agree on all your points Lee. It was actually super tough to give up one of my prized cards, but I spent months in trying to acquire a Robinson that had great eye appeal without breaking the bank, and they were all hammering at close to 5 figures. I was given a very nice valuation on both cards under comps, because the Mantle was offered. I would say at least 1500 under comps. The opportunity to then have money to pick up a 52 Mathews made things easier for me. Overall I’m happy, and I know I’ll pick up another 53 Mantle at some point. Maybe not in a 6, but I’m sure with great eye appeal. I honestly stopped worrying about the grade with my pick ups as of late….go figure lol 😂 Thanks for commenting. I loved this comment. 👊🏼👍🏽
