This really gets into the background and raison d'etre for the Biennale, a wonderful look at the Pavillons, and the Arsenenalehe artists the. The Venice Biennale can be overwhelming Great Arts Explained helps us to understand the themes and meaning behind such a diverse range of work. Thank you James....

Great Art Cities Explained: Venice Special (Biennale) 1936pm 28.4.22 akin to the great waterways of the southern climes the art sinks to high heaven - in short the art world is an open sewer. p.s the russians will be all the cleaner for their not being invited to attend or blocked from attending. which i find a bit off... bad form. the surrealist skit has been dnen to death.

It’s a small moment in the video, but I loved hearing the curator describe the challenge of moving the sculptures as a “logistical masterpiece”. Usually such a thing would be called a nightmare, but instead she highlighted the beauty of it. So poetic.

The ending is so great. Sometimes loving art is understanding that there will be art you don't love. That really helps you find what really speaks to you, and see what speaks to other people, which it seems the Biennele is all about. All the different cultures and artists and walks of life represented really lets you get an idea of what humanity is. Thanks for putting this together for us!

It's weird, but even art I don't like, I still appreciate for just existing. I like that it just exists to make an idea become real. Even if the idea isn't that profound, or isn't appealing, it's good that somebody created something to experience and to think about.

Wonderful curated visit, James. I was there in 2023 and it was somewhat overwhelming. Just the art on the streets and the outside pavilions was amazing. Any corner you turned could uncover an unexpected exhibition that could amaze me. I stumbled upin the pavilion of the tiny republic of San Marino and it was brimming with brilliant pieces from artists based there. You are right, the uniqueness of the city as a background plus the scale of it makes this unique. It made poignant how important art is as inspiration and a source of awe. Some art touches you through beauty, others by provocation, or awe or thiughtfulness. A remarkable experience. What's more, this was only the visual ART Biennale. During a Biennale year, Architecture, Cinema, Dance, Music and Theater have their Biennalemas well. It is a massive undertaking.

Remarkable look at this art event. Hard to get a proper understanding of many of the art works in such short glimpses. My own purely subjective taste is more aligned with the artists creating sculptures in clay, stone and metal that to me show a lot of craft skill as well as imagination. Simone Leigh's work especially stood out to me. Raqib Shaw's enamel paintings were also stunning - just stunning!

For a long time I had a problem connecting with the visual arts. I appreciated them always, I knew they had messages and some had no message at all. I can’t see visuals in my head, I don’t see the moving pictures and wasn’t allowed to have a tv or cellphone in the home I grew up in so maybe thay contributed to my leaning toward the written word and audio stimulation but your videos have helped me open my eyes and understand the things in this visual art in spoken word that might not be picked up immediately if you’re just glancing. I’ve learned to stop and pay attention, slow my pace and take the words and create what the art means to me or what it meant to the artist, with the help of you. I appreciate you, you a real one.

This was a great overview and captured something of what most be an overwhelming experience! I don't pay much attention to contemporary art since it has become a commodity - an almost fungible investment opportunity. There seems to be a lot of work that is monumental in scale. It tries to impress by sheer scale.
I do love Anselm Kiefer. The Philadelphia Museum of Art had an exhibition of his work and the paintings shed little straw and dirt bits all the time. The staff had to struggle to keep it swept up. I thought it was funny, since museums are generally pristine. He would be a good subject of a video.
Thank you for this project. I knew nothing of the history and didn't really have any sense of what it was like.

Thank you for attempting to show us the richness and extravaganza of the Biennale. Like a matrioska doll, modern art is exposed inside palaces that, with their beautiful and unique decorations, have been enchanting visitors for centuries.

The Romanian pavilion was particularly powerful. I would have included it in my round-up but it was too sensitive. www.labiennale.org/en/art/2022/romania

I love this channel, and this video, very much. Both my parents are artist, but i never really took the time to understand art in general. This channel has helped my understanding, and appriciation of art. Thank you.
