Hi Erick, I just wanted to say that your video is one of the most comprehensive I've seen on this little outboard motor. I just finished doing a short service on this model for a friend who had left it in his shed for the last 3 years. After a carb clean/oil change and new spark plug it's now running like new, absolutely bulletproof little motor. Thumbs up from Northern Ireland 🇬🇧 ATB... Billy.
I live on a little houseboat and I row all over the place. Some neighbors gave me they're 2.3 Honda motor. They plan on getting a bigger one for their inflatable dinghy. God bless them, this will save me a lot of back pain. And the time. I enjoyed your video and it was encouraging. Thanks!

Glad you liked it. I bring a 1 gallon of gas tank with me and refill as needed. This little motor is super efficient so it won't need to refill all the time.
I got mine on eBay ( £9.99 ) not sure what that is in dollars. It’s recommend that you use copper grease when you install them That way they won’t seize . Your review helped me decide to get the 2.3. Thanks.👍
You mentioned the engine was loud since it is air cooled. Is there any everyday item you could compare it to volume wise? I am considering it as a kicker motor on my boat for trolling but if its too loud i will not want to listen to it for 2-3 hours! From 5 feet away from the engine could 2 people have a conversation at a normal volume?
I bought the same motor (brand new) when I saw your video. However, I'm having a problem with idling the motor. I couldn't seem to put it in idle (in lowest throttle) the motor stops. Do you know what could be the problem?
@@jamessmith5970 Ok thanks I am right around that number too +/- 10lbs...I wud love to achieve 10mph but of course hull speed/design comes into play. I have a convex hull kayak(Native Titan 13.5) the pedal drive is a 10:1 ratio but it only propels a boat that heavy to damnear sitting still, it needed a 30:1 gear ratio...however now I need real power to get moving I will def check this motor out asap.
I got one of these things with my Twin Troller and I'll say it's a cute little thing. Then I got to the point of adding oil to the engine. You'd think a simple funnel would do but hell no...you have to have a funnel with a bendable neck. In short, it took me 45 minutes to get the right amount of oil into the thing with a lot of spillage for all of my efforts. I also read my simple directions and could find no comment in the book about the motor coming with gear oil in the lower unit and I need to check that before I try to run the friggin thing. Also, it's air cooled so from what I can tell there is not a water pee-hole like you see on most outboards. This motor has nothing but undignified reviews on Amazon and I hope that mine is an exception.
It does come with gear oil. It is reliable but I ended up getting a 6hp Tohatsu and a 9.9 Merc. My main issue was the plastic propeller. The shear pin has a tendency to bend or break.
I remember going to Anclote Key with it, taking off from Anclote River park. It was about 5 miles or so to reach the northern camping area. I had to fill her up then.
Have you had any problems with the carburetor? I just had my local Honda shop install a new one. Disappointing because the engine only had 15 hours on it. It kept conking out or refused to start after I ran it and then shut it off. They couldn’t figure it out and it was cheaper to buy and replace rather than take apart and clean. I ran 93 octane, added StaBil fuel stabilizer and always ran the gas out of the carb when I came into dock. Anyone have any issues like this?
I did once but it started again. Everytime I was done in the water I turn off the fuel line and run the engine dry. Basically run it until the gas inside the carburator would get used up
My pleasure Raymond. I have come to learn that the 2hp line up from Honda, Suzuki, Mercury, Yamaha, Tohatsu are quite reliable. Go for a good price and any of these will do well
Hey thank you for this very well done review. Helps me with my choice. I had a merc 3, it was a comparable engine. It had troubles with the carb like I needed to get the shop to clean it to prevent stalling every season because the ports are just so tiny. I tried to clean it my self but it was too small, the shop uses a vibratory cleaner. Any feedback as time has passed?
Hello there and thanks for watching. The little motor served me well but I eventually sold it. I currently run with a Tohatsu 6hp with a 7.8x7 propeller.
Hey man!!! Can you please tell me when it idles, does it vibrate a lot? Does it vibrate like crazy? I heard people complain that it vibrate so much up to a point where you can’t hold the handle throttle. Lol is that true?
So glad you are enjoying your new toy! Next video you need to show how you are deploying your drone from the boat! Can’t figure out how you are doing it!
Hehe!! It is not that complicated actually. I stop the boat, calibrate the drone and do a take off on top of the bag. Once I am done, I bring the drone close to me and catch it by the legs and that's it.
Wait I min, I need both hands for the controller. Hmmmmmm................................................I may need an action cam that I can mount in my head
Great video Erick! Really cool idea with the drone footage too! Thinking real serious about this little motor with a package deal on a Sea Eagle 285. Seems like it would be a great little combo. And again.....thanks for the kickass video!

Just wondering about reverse - presume it just swivels round. Also on the gumming with modern petrol, wondering if I can use Aspen (blue) 4 stroke fuel to avoid Ethanol carb gum. Just a thought.
Hello Eric how many feet is your ka boat? With Honda 2.3 motors on it.. planning to buy one this summer. I live in upstate New York so rounded by mountains and many small lakes.
Haha!! You're gonna love this little motor. Although I sold it and purchased a Tohatsu 6hp, that little motor took me everywhere. Even though it is not a fast motor, you can be sure that you'll have a small motor for literally decades. Those motors do not die
Frank Mayer , Make sure to consider an extension throttle so you can sit in the middle of your TT. I have a TT also and the seats make it ackward (because you are sitting high) to steer the TT with your hand behind your back. The throttle will also hit the back of your seat, so you have to find the correct position to steer freely. I hated the struggle at first but I got use to it.
I am heading out on the water today and just got this motor. I also have a TT and have been using a Lehr propane 2.5. It's an ok little motor but I am always smelling propane and now it is leaking oil. So I will keep it stowed away for now... can't wait to try this Honda motor out today... also the Lehr doesn't have much torque. we will see...
Nice video Erick. I have a 19 foot keelboat weighing around 1500lb, do you think this has the power to drive my boat in tidal waters? Also how much does the engine weigh? Thanks

fun and cool review!
Thank you! It was a very first little petrol outboard. I eventually sold it and got a 6hp Tohatsu.
@@ErickMartinSucre yes 6hp is better
@@ErickMartinSucre I subscribed to your channel!
Love my 6hp. I got a 9.8hp as well but I see myself using the 6hp more often.
@@ErickMartinSucre yes its lighter
Tk u sooo much for making this video!!!About to buy one and wanted to see exactly what it does and how it works etc! Sure enjoyed u getting to it and going over its operation asap! the boat ride u took made up my mond...plenty powere to get where I need to go...l.how do u refuel if needed???? cause I will need to at least once I think!
Glad you liked it. I bring a 1 gallon of gas tank with me and refill as needed. This little motor is super efficient so it won't need to refill all the time.
You can buy a stainless steel bolt replacement set for the 2.3 which will eliminate the rust problem.
The KitOwl sweet I did not know that!!!
The KitOwl thank you!
I got mine on eBay ( £9.99 ) not sure what that is in dollars. It’s recommend that you use copper grease when you install them
That way they won’t seize . Your review helped me decide to get the 2.3. Thanks.👍
You are very much welcome and again I appreciate your input on those bolts!
Thanks for the detailed review.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Great review Bro! Thank you!
Rich.
Glad you liked it Mr.Warwick 8-) This was my first boat set up before I got me the bigger boat and motor.
My problem with this engine is the low speed, inside marina for example, if I go idle, it shuts down, so how do you do for low speed-idle speed?
Hmm, I would look at the carburetor and see of you can find the idle screw. It may just need to be adjusted.
It should be a simple screw that opens the throttle slightly, allowing more gasoline for the engine to idle.
You could have aconversation but you'll notice it without a doubt. At 5 feet it should not be bad.
It tips over if you run it into ground. Very nice for beginners like me. ;)
This little motor served me well. Took me all the way to Anclote Key, which is several miles out from Tarpon Springs.
Most excellent review!
jarchitect Thank you 🤗
I’m glad you liked it
great review. thank you
Hey, thanks for watching 😊
I bought the same motor (brand new) when I saw your video. However, I'm having a problem with idling the motor. I couldn't seem to put it in idle (in lowest throttle) the motor stops. Do you know what could be the problem?
These motors have carburetors and there is a screw that can be adjusted for the idle. It may just need to get adjusted.
Very well done review. Thanks
Thank you kindly! This little motor served me well while I had it.
Thanks great video, I just bought one for a 14' Jon Boat on Crescent Lake in FL
Very nice!! I am glad you liked it Steven 8-) Have fun the water and be safe out there!
@@jamessmith5970 How much does your jon boat weigh?
Oh I forgot, it is air cooled yes
Hi Martin, do you remember the consumption of your Honda? How long did it last? I only know it has a 1.1 l fuel tank
I remember going to Anclote Key with it, taking off from Anclote River park. It was about 5 miles or so to reach the northern camping area. I had to fill her up then.
Good instructive video
Glad you liked it. A lot of ppl seem to like this little motor.
Hello. I heard that the sheer pin breaks easily. Can the pin be repurchased easily
That is true yeah, the pin can be purchased online and it is easy to replace as well.
Cool rig you have there. Was there any other very small outboards you were considering that compare to the Honda?
Yeah, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Mercury. Eventually, I sold the Honda and got myself a 6hp Tohatsu. Still have it to this day.
@@ErickMartinSucre Must Fly!
It does w3ll. I g3t about 14-16 with me in it. I currently have a Sarurn SK385XL, similar to the one in the video but with twice as big bladders.
Basically run it until the gas inside the carburator would get used up
Where did you get the stand for the motor
Got it on Amazon. amzn.to/3urBOsM
Thankyou what a great video
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 8-)
can you make the throttle rod longer so you can sit more forward to the bow?
With a tiller extension you can
Thank you a very clear and helpful video 👍🏻👍🏻
My pleasure Raymond. I have come to learn that the 2hp line up from Honda, Suzuki, Mercury, Yamaha, Tohatsu are quite reliable. Go for a good price and any of these will do well
Lol I got one the same day 😂👍🏻just waiting for it to be delivered it going to go on my bestway mirovia pro hydro force 👍🏻
@@raymondjacques7378 Very nice!! Be sage out there!
I always run the motor dry of gasoline. I unplug the fuel line and let the engine use up all the gasoline in the carb. Helps prevent gum up
Great review 👍👍
Thank you 😊
Hey man!!! Can you please tell me when it idles, does it vibrate a lot? Does it vibrate like crazy? I heard people complain that it vibrate so much up to a point where you can’t hold the handle throttle. Lol is that true?
Not on idle, it's just noisy really.
I think you need to get that on film!
Haha ok then. I only have one camera at the moment and it doubles as my drone screen. Oh I know, I use one of my old smart phones yeah
Wait I min, I need both hands for the controller. Hmmmmmm................................................I may need an action cam that I can mount in my head
Just get a mini tripod. They are cheap! Or figure out how to stand up your phone. Should be easy!
Great video Erick! Really cool idea with the drone footage too! Thinking real serious about this little motor with a package deal on a Sea Eagle 285. Seems like it would be a great little combo. And again.....thanks for the kickass video!
My pleasure!! I am glad you liked the video. The little motor, even though it is not fast, it is made to last and get you where you need to go. Be safe in the water and have a great time 8-)
Great review thanks
😁😁
Just wondering about reverse - presume it just swivels round. Also on the gumming with modern petrol, wondering if I can use Aspen (blue) 4 stroke fuel to avoid Ethanol carb gum. Just a thought.
I use Stabil on my gas, seems to work good. And yes, you just swivel for reverse.
Nice job! Very helpful
Thanks
My pleasure and thank you!!
Hello Eric how many feet is your ka boat? With Honda 2.3 motors on it.. planning to buy one this summer. I live in upstate New York so rounded by mountains and many small lakes.
Hello there and thanks for watching! This one is a SK396 Kaboat from Boatstogo.com and it is 12 feet long.
What a great video!
Thank you! 😊
I'm sold! Going to buy one for my 10' Twin - Troller.
That's a good advice 8-)
I am heading out on the water today and just got this motor. I also have a TT and have been using a Lehr propane 2.5. It's an ok little motor but I am always smelling propane and now it is leaking oil. So I will keep it stowed away for now... can't wait to try this Honda motor out today... also the Lehr doesn't have much torque. we will see...
Excellent video man thankyou
My pleasure glad you liked it.
Do you still need to mix gas with oil for this engine? I might go for a 55lbs Minn Kota or this one.
Not on this one. This model is a 4 stroke engine that keeps the oil inside like a car engine.
Great review! Thanks!
My pleasure and thank you for watching!!
Nice video Erick. I have a 19 foot keelboat weighing around 1500lb, do you think this has the power to drive my boat in tidal waters? Also how much does the engine weigh? Thanks
You'll probably need the kicker model that has a longer shaft
