International 280A Backhoe

I go check out a friend's International Harvester 280A backhoe in Indiana.
The IH 280 Series A backhoe was only built for a couple years and was the company's last new backhoe design. It had a lot of improvements over the earlier machines.
The 280A used the International D358 diesel engine and a Clark 18000 powershift transmission and a Rockwell rear axle. This massive machine would have competed against the John Deere 710A backhoe and Ford 755 backhoe.
These machines weighed in at around 18,000 lbs depending on options, and were around 97 horsepower.

I remember when these were sold new. Ive seen these units far and few in between. I like these and the 3600A backhoes.

I have a 260.. They look like they were carved out of a single block of steel.
