I am now 80 yrs. old and still learning to sing. The body is old but my voice is still young. Never believed I could learn to sing at the age of 80. A dream come true. Thanks Freya!
Reading this makes me so happy, I'm in my forties and trying to keep good health of my voice... when or did you ever started to feel changes in it? I intend to keep on singing till the day I die. Always learning. You're a beacon of encouragement with that comment.
Ophiuchus. It WILL come, just be patient and get enough practice in. Every singer goes through a stage when they think they won't "get there". Always keep your face and jaw as relaxed as possible.
+VIDEOHEREBOB I love that I see you at every single comment section of every single voice video I watch and TMV thread I read, Bob. Especially because I almost always agree with what you say.
When I first started practicing with an open throat, my throat got sore because I was not relaxing. But today, I finally relaxed my throat enough that it felt wonderful. One thing I did not realize is that when your throat relaxes you can actually feel it relax. It feels comfortable. Thank you so much. You are a wonderful teacher.
Yooo ok so i was singing some karaoke and everytime i sing ballads like hopelessly devoted for example, and everytime i wanna sing the chorus, i sound so closed up and theres SO MUCH tension in my throat. Then i remembered that on some youtube videos that i watched they always say to open the throat so i tried to and OH MY GOODNESS I COULD SING THE CHORUS SO GOOD AND I HAD THAT OPEN SOUND AND THE RINGING SHES TALKING ABOUT IM SO PLEASED WITH MY SELF
This was extremely helpful, thank you!! I think I’ve bee singing with a closed throat this entire time. I believe a lot of that is from lack of confidence and singing with a closed throat sort of keeps you in that safe zone, if that makes sense. I’m really going to work on this!!
Singing with an open throat is best, but you're doing it wrong. Drop your jaw, then inhale with an abdominal breath, then exhale using the abdominal muscles, then immediately after you feel air move through your throat, make the sound (whatever note you want to hit). That's how opera singers sing and it's the most healthy way to sing. It's how women can be louder than an entire orchestra and go on for an hour with their throats being just fine. Your throat should never hurt after singing and your voice should never sound raspy after singing no matter how loud or how long. Even the Army teaches this by instructing soldiers in march to let a breath out and connect it with notes otherwise, you'll hurt yourself.
Merci Freya, d un petit village du sud de la France. Vos conseils sont.t pert entre, précieux. Je vous écoute religieusement, je progresse. Merci infiniment.
You are my absolute favorite vocal instructor on TH-cam! Your videos are plentiful and they cover almost every "what if" pertaining to the video topic! Thank you so much, your lessons really appeal to me~
GREAT VIDEO!!! Could you do a tutorial on singing soft and quiet with open throat? My throat can remain open in medium / louder level, however, it get nasal when I am singing in mid to low note, and quietly. Thank you :)
Freya, you always put your heart and soul into your video presentations. You empathize with the singer. You relate to our struggles. I really appreciate you.
This is by far the best series of videos to learn how to sing. I've watched and tried with other youtube channels, but they don't provide as much information as you do. Thank you!
+issa ismail I have the same problem when I'm singing with mix. If I sing Ee the sound is clear and loud and quite awesome. My larynx is pretty relaxed too. But when I sing uu or aa my voice is weak and sounds stupid and my larynx is in higher position than when I'm singing ee. Why? Why it has always felt (in mixed voice) like there's something on the way? I can't sing great in mix because the sound is weak and it doesn't come out like I think/feel it should in my head. Could someone help me please?
u r an amazing teacher and very talented! !! I generally sing rock and blues I have sort of a throaty raspy voice, but your videos are helping me to find a clear sweet head voice and proper technique!!!! ty sooo much!!!!!!
@Sahat hi everyone ,if anyone else trying to find out how to sing really good try Trefendous Quick Singer Tips(do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.
Hi freya, i come here again because i'd like to tell u that this video actually helps me to sing with openness now. Been doing that exercise everyday and i can hit high notes like effortless now😁
Thank you soooo much, Freya. You are a wonderful teacher. I learned a lots! Have you had an episode to teach how to prepare to start the first note on stage? I did not find the lesson. My problem is that I always mess up the start of song on stage. I don’t know how to prepare my body in details.
This is a superb lesson Freya and I thank you very much for it. I am managing to keep my face and jaw very relaxed and I can feel and hear the improvements.
Freya, when I open my throat I feel a wobble. It almost sounds like a vibrato. Can you help me figure out how to get a straighter tone? LOVE LOVE LOVE your vids
I don’t find opening my throat an easygoing experience for me, because I learned how to do that in middle 🏫 when I took a Choir class in the 7th Grade. I learned the same thing in elementary 🏫 back when I participated in the chorus. When I sang “Ice on her Lashes” by Brooke Fraser on Zoom in January 2021, I had to open my throat toward the song’s resolution for the “Isn’t it?” part for a total of 5️⃣ minutes or less within the ballad’s running time. 👍🏻 if you tried before on karaoke segments.
Thanks for your teaching! I'd like to know how to produce a shaking sound at each closing note, which seems more professional and nice!!! I really wanna learn from you for that! Thanks a lot!
