During this pandemic I help home school our 1st grade granddaughter and this makes me so excited for my day tomorrow with her! I've been using 10 frames, number lines and number bonds for teaching addition and it has worked really well. Having these games will add on to the fun. And yes, giving different strategies so kids can find the one that works best for them is awesome. As a former 8th grade science teacher, your sessions have been so helpful! Elementary teachers have the hardest job and you have helped me so much! Thank you!
Thank you! My 2 and a half year old is obsessed with 1st grade addition/subtraction and I'm looking for tips and tricks to help him continue to learn. These are some great suggestions. Thanks!
Thank you for always sharing your ideas, tricks, and tips. We are just starting subtraction and we also found we need to expose them to vertical and horizontal formats. I love that you include both formats in your games and activities. My team also teaches them to draw and cross out (the concrete version of build and remove) I will be sharing this video with my team. I have 2 brand new teachers on my team (of 3) so they can watch it as well. THANK YOU for always sharing freebies! You are my go to teacher on you tube that I watch when I need ideas for reading, literacy, writing, and math ideas.
Susan....You are one of my favorite people!!! Love all of your ideas and products!!! Thanks for being AMAZING!!! :) We are starting subtraction tomorrow!!!
Hi Susan, I am a student teacher in the Scottish Highlands! I am currently on placement in a school where I have a P2/3 class (I think that's grade 2 in the U.S!) This video was SO HELPFUL for me in planning my upcoming subtraction lessons! As an English Literature grad I am always a bit freaked out by STEM subjects, but this video is brilliant and has made me feel so much more at ease. Thank you so much! I look forward to your other videos. Liked and subscribed :)
I bought your math bundle for 1st grade it’s been amazing for my homeschool I have 6 year old twins and a 7 year old and the differentiation is amazing I can scaffold up or down for each kid and it’s awesome!! Thanks for all you do! I even use find the fish with my preschooler! I can’t stop buying your stuff lol 😅
Thank you for sharing this! My child seems to like addition and tends to add things instead of subtraction whil I am teaching her. Integrating games to learn is really cool. I think I would prefer the 1st one, build and remove but I want to try the dice game. Maybe she will like it. She will have an exam tomorrow for place values and she is already good at it, so far its the subtraction that she is struggling. Thank you again!
Kind of random, and not sure if Sunday spotlight is for parents or teachers.... but after spending a few years teaching now, I have a bunch of games from random resources. Any suggestions on keeping things organized based off of content (not by months, but content)
Thank you for your videos and freebies! I teach subtraction in a very similar way. I would love to see a video on solving word problems and using cgi strategies. I haven’t been very good about doing this virtually.thank you Susan!
So in Tennessee, we do not teach just subtraction. We teach everything as related so I have to teach counting on to subtract next week when we have actually not talked just subtraction we’ve done missing ad ends. We’ve done lots of models where they show addition and subtraction for model do you have any suggestions for this?
