    There are actors born to nail Sondheim characters and Raul is definitely one of them.

    One of my most prized possessions is a photo with myself and Raul taken after a performance of Tick, Tick... Boom! at the Jane St. theatre the week after 9/11. The most surreal "I guess we have tickets still so we're going" scenario. The nicest guy.

      Yes me too. The set of lines "Yes,, she looks for me. Good. Let her..." are my favorite. You can sense sincerity.
      The "Good." part sounds a bit funny to me that Ive been saying it just like he does for while. Lol

    Love this. The time I saw him in COMPANY, I found him whiny. When he said, "but who would I take care of?" there was no clue earlier in the performance that Bobbie cared for anyone.

    Second best version of this song after Michael Cerveris’s. Cerveris gives a sadder/ more emotional version. Esparza’s is more cerebral and a bit angry. But both give me chillsz but I have to give it Cerveris for his delicate specific nuances. He lives the song. But this version is tremendous as well. They are both probaly my two favorite Sondheim interpreters. Both versions are superior (in my opinion) to Mandy’s original. And it probably has to do with the times and what we currently need to feel from singer/actors.

    • @theassortedhobbies
      @theassortedhobbies 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The phrase “finishing the hat” can be taken literally and figuratively. At the moment, he is he is painting in someone’s hat, but the hat, as a metaphor, can be attributed to a project that you are passionate about. Sunday in the Park with George discusses the life and nature of being an artist and exploring the pressures of the kind of art you make for publicity versus the art you make for you, with this song exploring George’s views on himself and how he feels that his art holds importance to him and laments how few people can understand what he thinks and feels, showcasing the negative aspect of an artist balancing their art and their personal life.
