This is the second of four parts of a comprehensive Warlock guide covering all 3 specs, rotations, glyphs and various other gubbins. I will be working with experts on guides for other classes over the coming weeks. This guide covers Demonology.
Awesome series.These videos serve as an excellent newbie-friendly guide to new talents and abilities, and should give a good idea about class mechanics to those who haven't decided what class they want to play as. This will be my number one resource to point such players to.
In addition, the videos give a good idea about how OTHER classes work in Cataclysm. I'm familiar with warlocks, but I learned a lot watching the mage-video, and will probably continue to do so with future ones. Thank you.
OK is now my favorite commentator ever. Warlocks are my fav class and him doing them first (second technically) makes me really happy. TB keep doing what you are doing :D
FYI, Demon Armor is great for range tanking bosses or keeping on yourself while soloing. We also used it on Dreamwalker by having the Holy Paladin Beacon the boss and heal the warlock with Demon Armor on for a 20%(?) boost to healing.
For pure DPS you'll never use it, but it does see situational use.

This is an interesting take on demonology, I'd love to try this once Cataclysm hits. Oh and for all you other awesome warlocks who roll with demons:
/cast [nochanneling] Hellfire
/cancelaura [channeling] Hellfire
There's your hellfire macro... click-on, click-off... simple.
The WotLK Demo rotation for me was Curse of Elements > Immolate > Corruption > Shadowbolt spam > when Molton core proced use 3 Incinerates (keep Immolate up to increase Incinerate's damage) > repeat until Decimation proced > Pop Metamorphosis > Soul Fire spam until target dies > recharge dots when needed (Keep Corruption up cause in Wrath, it was THAT spell that proced Molton Core, and at the time Molten Core affect Soul Fire too)
In Cata, the rotation is the same, and is still insane dps >:)
Another good addon to track debuffs that I use is NeedtoKnow. Displays a nice sized bar, it's nothing fancy mind you, that tells you duration of debuffs and buffs on you and you can changed the colors of the bars to your liking. NOt sure if it works for proc buffs but I haven't really tried.

Pretty good stuff, for the most part. There's a lot of choice at rank 2 and 3 in Demonology. I like Master Summoner, personally, it combines well with Demonic rebirth, but it is more of a PvP or convenience talent. Health Funnel was overlooked in this video, and I understand why, but I think it is a bit under-rated in PvE. I'd rather spend a few seconds healing a pet than a few seconds re-summoning one that will have lost it's buffs, though again, it is more of a PvP talent, or for leveling.

I've been playing beta as a warlock and tried out all 3 specs, which seem to be equally viable. however, i've been using fel flame a lot to refresh the duration of immolate and unstable affliction in destruction and affliction, respectively. i haven't bothered to use corruption on demonology since it doesnt proc molten core anymore but i don't have any numbers to know if that's really more effecient. all in all, good 2 videos, thanks totalbiscuit and optec, looking foward to affliction's one.
@wvsp2 Nobody said it did. It has an AoE effect.
about to replay WoW, what's a premade character? and where did you get one?
@EasyEproductions9 hes on the WoW cata beta, not a private server, since private servers are illegal. The beta is a test server in which they show content that is still heavily under development to have a larger amount of people to test the content on.
Personally, I find Hand of Gul'dan VERY useful in PvE combat as it adds a nice DoT effect, which is a warlock's best friend aside from the pets, as well as a small AoE effect. Very handy when dealing with a rooted boss that can spawn mobs on itself. I find that Saurfang in ICC provides a nice example, not rooted really, but the tank can keep him in one spot and it hits all the bloodbeasts as soon as they spawn, so that's nice.

Awesome video as always, just wanted to say that i once used Demon armor in PvE. It was when I was tanking Mimirons head. :)
this is why i switched to destruction spec
but demonology has always caught my attention so when i can play as goblin my goblin will be demonology warlock
hopefully it wont be so complicated if i start from level one so i can slowly learn to play pro demo warlock

is rain of fire still there? i used to spam that all the time.
Master Summoner does come in handy..say you're almost out of mana in a dungeon and your pet dies and you want it back..you can summon it without ANY cost(other than time) I find it useful

@TheSolitary12 idd, cause it counts as your pets dps which doesn't take any cast time to lower your dps, only increases it incredibly much on AOE packs if you pop hand of gul'dan, Felstorm, Demon Form, Demonic Leap, Immolation Aura and Hellfire. an u'll be hitting about 20k dps on aoe packs in randoms =)
Using Felstorm at every cooldown, increases the dps done?

I do have a question for Demonology Warlocks, being a Destruction Warlock. I've always wondered if Banish works on a Warlock using Metamorphosis? Because I do know that Banish works on Demons also, but I've never been able to apply it to other Warlocks.
is this a good spec for people who want to do lots of pvping?
You should start the rotation: Soulfire, hand of G, then immolate and corruption, then shadowbolt spam imo.
For the Hand of Gul'dan, I've never found it doing any kind of aoe damage and if you read the tooltip closely, you can read that it deals "X amount of damage to the enemy TARGET and THEN erupts an aura", wich sounds to me like it damages 1 target first and then drops an aura wich increases demon crit. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i have to ask, have any of you had problems keeping the soul sife haste buff up in destro spec? i kept trying to renew it once it got down to like 1-3 secs left and it would just drop off and it wouldnt be put back up for awhile no matter how many times i hit it with soulfire
What is the addon at the bottom for the mana bar when you are casting a spell
And there I was thinking that Demonology was _less_ intense, and that the pet does more of the work... Oh, this looks much more interesting than I imagined.

That aure of foreboding combined with the felguard's abilities just wrecks in pvp. A lock killed me in seconds with it.
Are you planning on doing this about warriors & shamans?
I'm impressed with just how much dps i can do in this spec without doing anything at all. Hellfire alone does some pretty decent dps.

I meant the bit where the spell casting time is just above the action bar. When casting a spell the action bar fills up until the time is finished

I don't see why you guys would take Aura of Foreboding (a root) over Demonic Aegis, as IMO, getting healed for more from the Fel Armor can actually be helpful during boss fights compared to a root. Just my opinion though.
Fel armor is 2% health every 5 seconds, 4% health every 5 seconds with 2 points in the talent.
Or you could always drop Demonic Empowerment and another point from Demonic Embrace...

Demonology looks interesting.
The only way the instant cast pet revive would be good for PvE is if your dealing with like a few mobs at once, and the pet nibs some aggro then dies.
is that pvp gear or arena gear ur wearing???? SOMEONE TELL ME!!!
If you're talking about the 3 shard thingies its not an addon its the warlock thingy in game :)
@TotalHalibut Do you by any chance know an expert on shamans? Shamans have always been my favourite class and the only one that I could stand leveling to 80 (me being an alt-aholic). With 4.0.1 the new spells and talents for them have got me, so if you could please make a guide about shamans that would be great.

With raid buffs, hand of guldan aura, felstorm, metamorphosis up, immolation aura, and hellfire, I have done well over 30k dps on size able aoe packs.
what addons ur using?
man total, you are hilarious as a warlock, ive working on a lock alt but i love these vids, as hilarious as these are i actualy am gettign alot out of this, also if you want help doing a DK video i can help you out alot, since my main and specialty is the DK
@roshthedestroyer I was playing on live the other day as demonology. On the Sindragosa trash I hit 80k dps as demonology, using hellfire,immolation aura and felstorm(felguard ability).

at first i was looking forward to cataclysm but i havent played my wow account for 2 months and not due to a conscious decision but because i just have no interest. So now im thinking new vegas and black ops will keep me much more entertained.

Yea I also see it. I don't think advertisements are 100% in the controll of the video poster cause I highly doubt total would condone gold seller advertising in any video he helped make.
Isn't that pointless to spam shadowbolt instead of Incinerate with that build? Incinerate have a little less, but comparable damage as shadowbolt and have less casting time so imho its better for your dps.

I can imagine that being pretty epic aoe, i would love to see the numbers since right up till this evening i had been running about claiming that frost death knights were the kings of aoe.
Imagine you set up hand of gul'dan first, pop metamorphosis, send your fel guard in, activate immolation aura while being at range then hitting all targets with shadowflame and then casting hellfire while activating the felguards felstorm. This is quite high aoe dps.
I once used demon armor in the Valithiria Dreamwalker encounter because the healers healed me and the dragon was healed too by that with some glyph...I dont really know but in this case the demon armor was very good indeed.
@Dziekan765 Unless they have changed it around now, i havent tested, but shadow bolt gains a greater boost from your spellpower, grants the 5% crit bonus, and also costs less mana :)
@mackmusicandgames They're not for the faint hearted. There's a lot of things to keep an eye on and if you miss a step you risk getting your arse handed to you. That being said, if you're ready for it, the rewards are plentiful and you can achieve MASSIVE dps.

This looks like some smart macroing is in order to handle the procs and cooldowns.
@Lev8300 No, if you go Demo, Hellfire is your AoE

the armor talent would be handy when you need to be an off off tank min ICC for the Council but that about it but a good party prob have a 3rd tank with a dps ms or os for that fight though I heard that warlocks are the absolute best for that fight.
@Lev8300 but with the need talent in the Demo tree, you can move around while channeling it

very true warlocks are quite hard to play, the horrble fact is you can easily get tunnel vision and start spamming your filler spell and utterly forget about your dots, then you get flustered trying to reaplly them and you end up standing in the fire = dead, i dont recommend warlocks for anyone who isnt good at keeping track of multiple things at once
I know you people could care less, but for sure demon locks are the best aoe class in the game, did 44,8k dps on trash before dreamwalker on live with frost badge gear mostly.

anyone notice that demon form gives you enough armor to tank and makes raid bosses not crit you? why is that?

at his hp pool demonic aegis talent amounts to an extra 17k hp a min gained with fel armour, so with talent total of 34k hp a min in these healer mana matters days id say thats a pretty good talent myself
@riddleprofessor If he had recount on, it would have listed all of the possible commands for recount when he typed /recount. He just got an error, so the addon wasn't even enabled.

i tanked a huge pull when tank died in metamorphosis so the armor is pretty good
SOM1 PLEASE TELL ME HOW HE HAS 109k HEALTH>> IM A LV 32 warlock and lv 80 warlocks have like 36k health.. i know hes 85 but how does he instantly have 109k health. how much does his gear cost like 3k gold?>
