Best shows of any and all others that I’ve been to. Many, Many….I found “Under Bushes/stars”. Every track was so solid. This was the band that blew everything else over. Bob’s writing and lyrics (not to mention his sense of humor and sarcasm between songs was incredible. He’s got some shit but don’t we all. None the less, he continues to write, work, push. He’s truly the “Bobby Knight” of lo/fi (whatever that is) tracking GBV’s early releases up to I-Drills in 2001 was life changing. First show was 2001 ID tour and saw them (and hung out / drank their beer with them before show) in Knoxville, TN. My bud, Brad Brock from Black Mtn, NC, was my gateway into the best indie band/live shows on the planet. Seriously, 70+ songs per show in certain venues - double encores, etc. Effing bananas!! Shout out to Brad B. and forever grateful for the introduction to the GBV crew. Nate, Tim, there once young Canadian drummer whose name I’m drawing a blank. And of course Bob. Doug Gillard is such an incredible musician/lead guitarist/vocals and is the solid foundation for the longevity and staying power of the group throughout the decades. Nate’s power down stroke strum into fully vertical power fist unforgettable (“lethargy, ….!!”). Tom’s overall effd’ up enthusiasm + talent + perma grin at shoes always make me laugh thinking back. Sh*t him and NF were a completely sideshow within the show itself. Back to Brad Brock…super good dude and loved and is loved by the band. I’d never seen a fan of any band that came close to the bond between he and the GBV family. Wrapping up this long comment: I recall many shoes back stage / pre show / sound check, drinking Bud Light from the keg, (Knoxville, Asheville, Athens, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin + some prob too hammered to recall right now) I recall Tim asking if I was holding and dishing off a few bars of Xx at Dallas show. Those guys have a robust constitution that large majority do not have. So many great times and for me a near decade of GBV fun, debauchery & memories. One of the best was getting to sing onstage with Bob at a show at the Variety Playhouse in ATL. It was an encore song so pretty much everyone was hammered. The song…”Hot Freaks” being arm and shoulder with Bob and GBV IN my hometown (Atlanta) slurring the lyrics to HF is definitely a deep seated memory of my favorite band. An “everlasting big kick” to all GBV fans and to the 2000 era line up. Shout out to Doug Gillard. I always stood up front, right side so I could watch him shred his black Gibson LP like no one else. Thank you DG for the awesomeness of your talent and your humble yet very approachable character. “Big Dave” from Atlanta
Is Sandbox considered the worst one (at the time of this recording)? I love Sandbox. It has one of my all time favorite GBV songs Barricade. Seriously Barricade is absolutely great.

there are a lot of unfortunate connotations surrounding futurist art but i get the idea bob just likes the ethos and aesthetics of the movement before fascists got a hold of it tbh
