I love your farm show videos. It’s great to see that your family has assimilated itself into the British way of life. I don’t know what you have planned long term, but I would love to see you remain in the country as you are a wonderful family and a credit to the USA🏴🏴🏴🤝🤝
Mac says, "I might put on a few pounds", no kidding ". Mac we are fortunate this year, you are enjoying great weather most of the time. Keep on rolling mac.
I used to visit the War & Peace Military show, largest in the world, in Kent. Before age intervened. Kent does some very large and extensive shows. Your excitement says it all.
The Kent Sheep breed was the "Romney Sheep" 03:46 . These are from the Marsh on the south Kent coast, they are similar to the Southdowns from East Sussex/Kent. My favoured breed of Pig is the Saddleback (Wessex) which you probably know as Hampshires (They were sent to the US from the New Forest). I have also raised Berkshires, Glouster Old Spots(GOS), Oxford Sandy and Blacks. They do well on Pannage my Orchard/Woodland paddock (as well as the pomace from my Cider and wine). My wife and I were born and raised on the isle of Thanet (during the war in Aldershot, she to Staffordshire) in the last month of war I was at Howe Barracks, Canterbury in "The Buffs". We met at College in Canterbury after the war. Still have relatives in Kent. When we were courting my wife to be had a Cyclemaster with an engine on the front wheel, I a pedal bike, we toured much of Southern England together (I was stationed in Wiltshire). She and a Girlfriend toured Scotland. My father was in the RE specialized in Steam Traction Engines, the Prime Movers of the Army, before the Great War he ran a Workshop Company at the Curragh, Ireland as an RSM. He spent 1914-19 in France, His Workshop Company maintained Traction Engines and Steam Trains by the finish they were working on Petrol and diesel Trucks, London Buses even Aero engines for the RFC/RAF he was a brilliant Machinist/Craftsman. He was recalled in 1937 as a Civilian Garrison Engineer and we moved to Aldershot until May 1945. The Royal Engineers Museum is at Gillingham in Kent.
Kent has traditionally held the title of The Garden of England. There is proportionatly more horticulture, orchard fruits, and hop growing than in other lowland English counties. The largest agricultural shows in Britain are the Great Yorkshire Show and the Royal Welsh Show, each being four-day events. Perhaps ideas for next summer? The 164th Great Yorkshire will be 11-14 July '23 at its permanent ground at Harrogate. The Royal Welsh will be 24-27 July at its showground at Llanelwedd in Mid Wales, celebrating its 120th anniversary. PS: The Inn at Little Washington is near Front Royal VA, and a place I enjoyed very much whilst living near Middleburg.
My county. My family has been in Kent for as far back as we’ve traced so far. You sir, are most welcome in this nation of immigrants. I may be British through and through but as a nation, we have been invaded so many times and have integrated so many cultures and nationalities that being a complete melting pot of peoples is literally in our blood. I’m so glad you enjoyed a little slice of Kent at the show.
@@jasonsmart3482 even the unsuccessful ones resulted in people from all over Europe settling here and bringing their culture ,customs, languages etc with them. Then there was the mass migration during WW2 , wind rush, refugees from multiple conflicts, migrant workers……
Late to this video but it has made me smile! I grew up in Maidstone, so we used to go to the county show every year and now I live in the West Midlands but the pretty urban bit (Birmingham) so I miss this annual tradition. Biddenden apple juice is the best (as is their cider, and Kent is making some amazing wine now too). I love my new home but I'll always miss bits of the old home county!
Glad you liked the Kent Show. It used to be held in a park in Maidstone before moving up to the Show Ground. There are lots of things to see and do apart from the animals. There always used to be show jumping, dog agility, Police dog demonstrations, etc. Great show and lies between M20 and M2 motorways. So good access. They have recently built WW1 trench systems nearby. Lovely villages close by and Maidstone and Canterbury not far away with Ashford Outlets for a great shopping trip within 25 mins.
I live in Kent and haven't been to the County Show for years and years but really enjoyed your video - and your others too. Great job - glad you enjoyed your visit to the county.
My mother, the daughter of a Welsh pig farmer, always told me that anyone who understands and likes pigs should be trusted and liked themselves because it actually means that they understand and like people. I'm pretty certain she meant that in the best of ways! (I like pigs too ;)
I always find your videos very relaxing. As an animal lover, I agree, the welfare of the animals should be top priority. Enjoy seeing the shows through your eyes!
Love it Mac. I'm from the UK and you're teaching me things I didn't know. You have a lot of knowledge. You remind me of my brother-in-law. He's very similar to you. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for filming this! You managed to catch me at the start of ur video. I’m the one leading the brown and white calf. The 1st and 4th prize pigs were ours too!! Thanks so much
I haven't been to a county show for decades, but if my childhood memories are reliable you managed to capture the sense of the event and many of its aspects. A really enjoyable 20 minutes, many thanks.
That was a great day out. Hereford cattle came from the county of Herefordshire, just a short distance from you home. They still breed pedigree herds around the county. Hereford also good for local cider. The vast majority of those old cars can be used on public roads, though they must pass the MoT test, which applies to all vehicles more than a few years old. (Ministry of Transport). The Vale of Evesham was another horticulture area, vegetables and orchards.
I was gonna suggest the Yorkshire Show but apparently it was last month! The Yorkshire region is still worth a visit and it's fairly close to the Midlands. You mentioned visiting York in another upload, it's my favourite city in England. I reckon your family will have an interesting time. The Royal Armouries in Leeds are also a great place to visit. Maybe check out Scarborough too?
Use to arrange a day off work to go to the local show, if I could not it really spoiled my year. The Welsh show is really good but you need at least two days there.
That 1979 bus is exactly the kind of bus I went to and from school in around Maidstone in the mid 1970s. The Maidstone and District bus company used to have a complex name badge / decal on the side, which was replaced by the simple white words logo you showed about the early 1980s. The Kent County Show used to have an enormous military vehicle preservation rally, but this seems to have been separated into it's own event in recent years. There has also been an airshow attached to the show, but as there is no close runway, it tended to be civilian planes and military helicopters.
At 15:17 The little window allowed the driver to see the upstairs from his driving seat, It also allowed us kids to look down onto the top of the drivers head 🙂
Another great show by the looks of it. The food alley looks worth it alone. May I recommend the Great Dorset Steam Fair if you like steam engines and fairs. It's huge and you'll get to meet some of the traveller community that move about the fairs or live locally. There is loads of variety, including a WWI trench system exhibit, but so much more. It takes place over the bank holiday weekend near Blandford Forum.

@Marc Jones 100 thousands of Brits go to agricultural, steam fairs and festivals across the summer otherwise they wouldn’t exist, you plank. Mac has a particular interest due to his background and likes to vlog about which funnily enough is not what everyone likes to do!
Lovely video. So often, the US vs UK videos highlight how different the two countries are. This one perhaps shows that at bedrock, they have a lot in common. Well done to you and enjoy all your days in the UK.
You should get over sometime to the all ireland ploughing championships ,before covid it attracted 250 000 and probably will this year aswell ,its the premier agri show in ireland
I'm not sure if you've heard of Beamish but it might be a place you and your family would enjoy since you like the county shows. It's up in County Durham and it's an open air museum which shows what life was like in the north east from the early 1800s to the mid 1950s. There's an old village with traditional shops (I think there's a pit village and another since I last went as well), there's an old farm, an old school and a mine/colliery, trams and old busses and during the summer there's usually a bunch of events on. I've got plenty of memories of going there as a kid and I'd often get dragged along with my sister when my Grandpop was taking part in the car shows!
It was nice to see you enjoying yourself down in Kent where I live. In the UK cars built before 1919 are Veteran. Between 1919 and 1930 are Vintage. 1930 to 1945 post vintage. Then classification gets a bit hazy with various names used. Over 30 years old are Classics.
Liked the mention of Washington. Have, when driving through East Anglia, gone through Washington (the original), but I can't recall anything about it, as it was a 'blink and you'll miss it' moment, I'm sorry to say. VERY small village.
I loved this video! 10:59 the part car part truck is referred to as a Ute here in Australia. Ute is short for utility truck. They are still produced here in Australia. Farmers rely upon them heavily.
As a kid, we were always taken to the Lincolnshire County Show on a school trip. Don't remember it being as vibrant and interesting as this one. Then again, that was back in the late 70s! Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed watching your enjoyment.
The small businesses we usually refer to as cottage industries, because of their origin of small side businesses ran by farmers or farm workers to raise extra income from their home. It looks a great show, covering many aspects of UK life past and present.
the Ford Escort you saw was a Ford of Britain product which made its debut in 1967; the US Escort came around in 1980 which coincided with the launch of the similar British/European Escort MkIII. The model steam engines are from a company called Mamod and have good range of steam powered tractors, cars and trucks.
I think you would really enjoy going to a Highland Games in Scotland. There are many of these around the different areas and it would be a good way to explore the countryside too. Have a look on TH-cam etc
@@MacandBlair You've just missed it for this year, but the Royal Highland Show (held on the Highland Showground, next to Edinburgh airport) is worth a look. Lots of animals, including huge Highland Cows, food trucks and a dedicated food hall, etc.
@@Michael75579Good call. Tickets for 2023 are now on sale, kids under 15 get in free .There were over 194,000 visitors over the 4 days (23-26th of June 2022), so plenty to do and see.
Currently, you’re exploring various county shows but seeing the steam engines made me think you may enjoy exploring the different steam train lines still in operation in the UK.
Great video. Used to get to school on a Maidstone & District double-decker bus in 1979 (maybe the one in your video). Always tried to get up the front on the top deck.
Where did you corral the kids for the day? Was the journey too long? Shame they missed the food and the pigs. And the model tent. Still, there’s always next year! Kent is still in the thick of agriculture, so the county show is huge. It would be nice if you saw an oast house before you left the UK. (Where they dry hops for making beer.) Oast houses usually have round mini-towers, although some of them are square. Lots have been converted into houses now but you can visit the old farming oast houses. Lots in Sussex across from Kent.
Come to Surrey to see Harleys. They have gatherings every Sunday. Lots of men having a mid-life crisis heading out for the day in convoys. Sadly, one older man dies every month from accidents on motorbikes.
Loving your travels rd the county shows. The South of England show at Ardingly in West Sussex is another large show though unfortunately you've missed this years.
You need to put the Great Yorkshire Shiw 2023 in your diary. It's a three to four day show at an impressive permanent showground and well worth a visit. It's held mid July.
Enjoying the video, next year try and get to the Royal Norfolk County Show near Norwich which is usually at the end of June beginning of July on a Wednesday and Thursday. They have a grand ring where you can watch show jumping and several others displays as well. There's also Rabbits, Chickens as well as pigs, sheep and Cattle. It's one of the biggest County shows in the country.
Too late for this year, but next year you should consider the Great Yorkshire show, it is the largest county fair in England, it is as big as the Welsh and Scottish national shows.
Hi! You mentioned the ousters, did you know that originally in London the ouster was a staple food for the poor people in the city. The Thames estuary to the sea was full of them before the iron, coal and the full on industrial revolution took hold, then they mostly died out.
I worked in the Ford Tractor factory at Basildon, Essex around 1980. When somebody told me that the only vehicle that was made in the USA and UK up to that time was their blue tractors. The Ford Escorts were made at Dagenham Essex.
The Escort is as likely to have been made in Germany or Belgium. Ford start making model Ts in Manchester 1911, after the Great War they were making Model A V8 but brought out the Europe only Model Y in 1932 made in Dagenham and Germany.
@@denisrobertmay875 Less likely, as the UK built more than half of the European MK1 Escorts, and I therefore doubt that they would have built right hand drive Escorts on the continent to import into the UK at the time? PS: Escorts were produced at Halewood on Merseyside, which eventually produced all European Escorts.
Well, I can see the Show is every bit as good as ever - so glad you had a lovely day. I think it likely the Oysters came from a nice seaside Kent place called Whitstable, which has excellent oysters
They do steam rallies around the country. You should try to see one. The have all sorts of steam vehicles, agricultural, showground, steam rollers. There is a good one in Dorset. I think it's in August.
I was hoping you'd see more of the buses and maybe bump into my friend Neil who has a collection of buses and an old bullnose Humber truck from the post WWII reserve stock.
So glad you enjoyed it.Just for interest the venue is the site of the WW2 fighter stn of Detling-front line in the Battle of Britain. Off the site towards to the top of the hill are some original AA positions and pill box defences.
Nice piece of Ferris wheel action again, that could become your trade mark Sir! I see you like the pigs, have you met a Gloucestershire Old Spot yet? They are the ones that the traditional "piggy bank" is usually modelled upon. Wonderful animals, and great bacon too.
Mac, it looks like I also need to brush up on my American car knowledge. The pick up isn't a Chevy El Camino as I wrote below, but it isn't a Torino either. It is a Ford but I believe it's called a Ranchero from about 1971? But it was based on the Torino which was a coupe. Apologies.
I think in the UK, if you car is 25- 75 years old and in its totally original state it can be classed as "classic", 75-99 years and again totally original "vintage" 100 years or more "antique"
Hi Mac, great to see you and Blair enjoying English country life. No offence but you might want to brush up on your American car knowledge. The pick up at 10.30 is a Ford Torino, it even says Ford on the back. An El Camino is a Chevy. The little bronze car at 9.57 is a British Ford Escort Mark 1, model type 1300E from 1974, made in Liverpool. Your views on living in the UK are always a good read.

@@bluerowe4458 Westerham really isn’t that far away from Dartford 😊 30-45 minutes away really, if the traffic is light…. I have spent many a fine hour in Westerham, enjoying the scenery and a nice drink and a lunch in the Grasshopper Inn! 👍🏻😀
@@weedle30 this is true. Hop, skip and jump. Your there.
I’ve been wanting to ask you guys a question for a while now …. do you watch the tv program Countryfile shown on the BBC …. Sunday evenings …. It’s a series all about the countryside and farming communities all over the UK …. It’s full of interesting things and takes you all over the British Isles … if you’ve not watched it yet then please give it a try …. Thanks for your videos … and your families enjoyment of our culture.
Thanks for the suggestion
10:59 the part car part truck is referred to as a Ute here in Australia. Ute is short for utility truck. They are still produced here in Australia. Farmers rely upon them heavily.
Cool. I didn't know they were still being produced....
Indeed
the Ford Escort you saw was a Ford of Britain product which made its debut in 1967; the US Escort came around in 1980 which coincided with the launch of the similar British/European Escort MkIII. The model steam engines are from a company called Mamod and have good range of steam powered tractors, cars and trucks.
Thanks for the detailed info... 👍
Kent is famous for oysters, particularly at Faversham where oysters have been sold and eaten for hundreds of years.
2 show I can highly recommend are The Suffolk Show, Held on Trinity Park, The second is the Royal Norfolk Show.
Thanks for the suggestions!
You might find the Dorset Steam Rally a very interesting place
Love your vlogs and infectious enthusiasm, you have a lovely family too. Many thanks for the upload. 😊
Thanks Bob
Pigs can clean up A lot of scrub too .
I think you would really enjoy going to a Highland Games in Scotland. There are many of these around the different areas and it would be a good way to explore the countryside too. Have a look on TH-cam etc
Will do thanks
@@MacandBlair You've just missed it for this year, but the Royal Highland Show (held on the Highland Showground, next to Edinburgh airport) is worth a look. Lots of animals, including huge Highland Cows, food trucks and a dedicated food hall, etc.
@@Michael75579Good call. Tickets for 2023 are now on sale, kids under 15 get in free .There were over 194,000 visitors over the 4 days (23-26th of June 2022), so plenty to do and see.
Oooh yes! Highland Games would be a GREAT trip!
The weather looked better where you were!!, That looked a great family day out ❤️❤️
Currently, you’re exploring various county shows but seeing the steam engines made me think you may enjoy exploring the different steam train lines still in operation in the UK.
That is on my list...
Have been to this one before. It is obe of the best 👌
Glad you went to one of my local ones, I have not been to the Kent show for a few years but it looked as good as ever.
It was!
Great video. Used to get to school on a Maidstone & District double-decker bus in 1979 (maybe the one in your video). Always tried to get up the front on the top deck.
Another great video, glad you get to see what some of the UK has to offer. And the sun has been shining too!
☀️☀️☀️🌝🌞🌝☀️☀️
Sorry to hear about the accidents...
Can see why you like the Kent County show. It's pretty similar to a deep south county fair in th usa I imagine. Love listening to you btw
It is similar... thanks Roberto
It was abgreat show this year 👍🏾
Enjoying the video, next year try and get to the Royal Norfolk County Show near Norwich which is usually at the end of June beginning of July on a Wednesday and Thursday. They have a grand ring where you can watch show jumping and several others displays as well. There's also Rabbits, Chickens as well as pigs, sheep and Cattle. It's one of the biggest County shows in the country.
I will put it on my list. Thanks
Too late for this year, but next year you should consider the Great Yorkshire show, it is the largest county fair in England, it is as big as the Welsh and Scottish national shows.
Next year maybe you can visit the “3 county show” in the shadow of the Malvern Hills.
Hereford - named after the town / county of Hereford / Herefordshire.
Goats - Here we use sheep to keep the grass short on the sides of reservoirs.
Hi! You mentioned the ousters, did you know that originally in London the ouster was a staple food for the poor people in the city. The Thames estuary to the sea was full of them before the iron, coal and the full on industrial revolution took hold, then they mostly died out.
Thanks... I did not know that.
do you mean Oysters?
PS: Escorts were produced at Halewood on Merseyside, which eventually produced all European Escorts.
that will be a great day out!
Well, I can see the Show is every bit as good as ever - so glad you had a lovely day. I think it likely the Oysters came from a nice seaside Kent place called Whitstable, which has excellent oysters
Another great video.
Thanks David
They do steam rallies around the country. You should try to see one. The have all sorts of steam vehicles, agricultural, showground, steam rollers. There is a good one in Dorset. I think it's in August.
The great dorset steam fair is held this year 25th to 30th August. It really is a show not to be missed
I will try to make it!
I love history. Thanks.
Keep em coming👌🏻
Will do.
14:44 that would be the Inn at Little Washington Virginia run by chef Patrick O'Connell.
Yes. I looked it up a couple days ago. Thanks.
Love these videos. Come to the Suffolk show next year. That's a big one too.🙂
Nice piece of Ferris wheel action again, that could become your trade mark Sir! I see you like the pigs, have you met a Gloucestershire Old Spot yet? They are the ones that the traditional "piggy bank" is usually modelled upon. Wonderful animals, and great bacon too.
I have met the Gloucestershire old spot in the US where they are classified as a heritage breed. A fine pig breed... 🙂
Apologies.
Try to go to the great Dorset steam fair a great day out
Whitstable are famous for oysters. So I think that's why they are there
I think in the UK, if you car is 25- 75 years old and in its totally original state it can be classed as "classic", 75-99 years and again totally original "vintage" 100 years or more "antique"
Michael that for the insight... I'm a simple guy I just see "Pretty Car" lol.
