Beautiful! I almost had a heart attack at 7:36😱. Great save! I learned so much from this video, I can’t say enough. Thank you!

Love, love that you show such a delicate piece being thrown through a "real" process. You didn't cut and paste over the wabbles, but showed how you work through them. My heart sank a couple of time but your hands never panic. Loved it.

Amazing, simply amazing 🤩 the delicacy of your touch as you execute this piece is beautiful❣️

Miraculous neck save! That was a close one, but Master Matt Kelly pulls a huge Hail Mary!

so zen... I am always amazed by how you follow the natural contours of the piece as you shape it. when you pull up the top, you know the trajectory of the shape you're creating and it blows my mind.

You had to work there! Thanks for showing that, all the better for it and a great pot in the end.

Way to work that neck brother!! It's good for me to see that even a pro like yourself almost had one get away from you. Great video Matthew

    Beautiful pot Matt.
I influenced you to start Patreon and I also hope it was my comments that started you using a torch.
For pots that you want to complete the same day difficult pots such as this one Matt, the torch is invaluable don't you think?
I remember what you said about smaller "section pots" and that you prefer to cover the bottoms with plastic and complete the next day AND that [for you] is faster in the long run and I fully understand what you said about that. As a professional potter making many of the "same kind of pots" for example, I think the way you do that is probably the best and fastest option Matt.
I have used a torch for years and don't know what I did before discovering the immense benefits of the torch, especially on the kind of pot you made today any pot that needs a very narrow top. Obviously for those really large section pots you make [like 50 or 60 pounds!] I'm sure you have found the benefits of the torch :)
I LOVE the perfectly round pot you made today and have enjoyed the video so much, thank you for sharing your talent with us Matt.
PS: I did think you was about to lose the top at one point BUT the torch saved the day :)

This is beautiful!!! Could you do it without using the torch ? Just curious. It’s such a pleasure to watch you work, thank you!

Can say how you know when to use the torch? You use it more than once in this video. What tells you it's time to use it? I have learned so much from watching your videos. Heartfelt thanks.

Great job, interesting to watch how you use the torch. Is there a special kind for ceramics?

You've got a guardian angel or you're just that good. If I have learned anything it's to never give up and my pots will end up perfect like yours. Haha, yeah right. My collapses end up as bowls.

I just really wanna know if this drys out your hands, I can just wash my hands a few too many times a day and they end up bleeding and cracked open. This seems like it would be so much worse, especially in the winter time....

are you using the torch to tighten the clay?

    • @MatthewKellyPottery
      @MatthewKellyPottery  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

It stiffens the clay so it doesn’t collapse

Tons of practice. That one of the hardest things to do while throwing. As you can see if you watch this … I almost lost it a couple of times

I could possibly do that but that is a very difficult subject. @jonthepotter has a good video on that from a couple years ago : th-cam.com/video/JLAe6MHT_xI/w-d-xo.html
