Thanks, excellent review. I’m new to photography and just got an a6700 for travel and astrophotography and low light shots.

Had my eye on that one a while ago, now I might have to pull the trigger!

it's 19.2mm FF equivalent on Canon which is really pushing in terms of focal length. That's not bad at all but 8-10mm ASPC seems to provide stronger compositional options. Thanks for sharing this! I just downgraded my camera kit form FF to ASPC because of financial issues and I'm scrambling to find good lenses. Didn't know about this gem until now!

Many of the wider focal lengths are good but the distortion can be a bit much for some folks. It's all personal preference. This lens is fantastic for APSC shooters! They also make a 14mm f2.8 for FF cameras which is an extremely good lens.

Ian great video. I am wondering up date my rokinon 12mm af f2.0 for my xt5 for milkyway landscape for a 8mm f3.5 so I am not sure so I would appreciate your comments. Thanks in advance.

On APSC it is a No-Brainer!!! Still searching for an equivalent lens for FF… Laowa 15mm is worse in the corners regarding coma. Sony 14mm is much more expensive. Sigma 14mm are both heavy and/or expensive, although the 15/1.4 is really stellar…

Have you tried any other lens for X-Mount for astro? Like the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4, the Sirui 16mm f/1.2 or Sigma and Tamron's f/2.8 wide angle zooms?

I used the Fuji 16mm f1.4, it’s good because it’s f1.4 and Milky Way details were great, but the star shape on the corners and vignetting was rough.

Just wondering. I've got the Rokinon 14. How does that compare to the 12?

That's a fantastic lens - I assume this is used with a full frame camera, and I think it's one of the best budget milky way lenses for full frame cameras.

In your enthusiasm for the lens I think you forgot to mention the most important con, or certainly the specification that is most important - it is only for cropped-frame cameras. Nice lens but for a limited number of camera bodies.

You can use it on a full frame lens, you just have to shoot in crop mode.

A great alternative for full frame users is the Rokinon 14mm f2.8
