    About a year ago I became a nurse. I've been at my current position at a family health Center for almost a year now. When I was applying for jobs I asked your opinion and you were simply wonderful. Thank you for making these videos and being an inspiration. My last patient of the day today was on lasix and I had to call then to increase their lasix dosage and it was such a coincidence this is the video you posted. Thank you so much for your detailed explanations. Also have you done a video on Coumadin? Thanks :)

    also can be used for hypercalcemia and therefore has a side effect of low calcium. Can also be used for increased intracranial pressure because it inhibits CSF production. It mostly gets in the renal tubules through secretion so you don't a decent GFR. That's why it works in renal failure.

    First of all thanks for these videos, really helpful when it came down to getting the essentials down to pass nursing school. I passed the NCLEX on my first try this August.
    To all of the future RN’s or LVN’s, I wanted to share with all of you a drug app I made while studying for my NCLEX. I compiled all of the essential information I gained from my time as an RN student, along with information from Davis’s Drug Guide (15th edition), these youtube videos, and common NCLEX review courses (NCSBN, HURST, KAPLAN, and Elsevier), into one easy-to-use app to help you pass the NCLEX. It has over 350 common medications, with information ranging from class, generic (Brand) names, mechanisms of action, vital signs to watch for, labs, common and severe side effects, possible routes of administration, and nursing considerations. The best thing about it is that it is also web-based so you can access it on any device, and you can add your own notes throughout the app, as well as add new categories and drugs. The app also contains helpful lists showing normal lab values, normal vital signs for all ages, medication administration info, common conversions, isolation precautions, pregnancy categories, and substance abuse schedules. Check it out, I’m sure it will definitely help you out. I wish you all the best of luck and happy studying. Search on google play store: NCLEX Drug Study Guide. Coming to the apple store soon. Type in nclex.barcalabs.com for web access to the information.

      lordia1987 You also need to use only pure sea salt prepared foods. My mum has a the same issue. The days she eats regular table salt foods (or sodium, msg & the like) she gets fluid build up. so along with your meds change to only pure sea salt and absolutely no sodium in your diet. You must also drink extra water as you can become dehydrated.

    Recently I went to see my doctor. All vitals were taken including BP which instead of being 147/89 was instead 90/82. Long story short the pneumonia was actually fluid in my lungs caused from CHD. I didn't swell much but couldn't breath on exertion. I take a low dose of Lasix now working up to a higher dose later. I can lay down now instead of propping up, drink more water and less sodas, make decaf iced tea and am not afraid to walk without having to stop until my lungs catch up to the exertion (?) of doing what I like. I took phen phen and now lose weight by just diet and walking. My BP is normal 127/82 for an old lady (64) and I feel a lot better. Will this cause gout? I had gout with other diuretics and to say it's unpleasant is a joke, it hurts like h__l . Thanks for this vid, I'm saving it to favorites. Thanks again.

    I am taking diuretic as i had a heart failure and sometime i retained water in spite of taking diuretic and i have to see my doctor as i have breathing problem .is this due to lots of salt intake in the diet or the dose prescribed is lower.
    Your response is appreciated.

    • @AD-ye6mw
      @AD-ye6mw 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Insight Curiosity. That's correct. you need to also use only pure sea salt prepared foods. My mum has a the same issue. The days she eats regular table salt foods (or sodium, msg & the like) she gets fluid build up. so along with your meds change to only pure sea salt and absolutely no sodium in your diet. p.s. you must drink extra water as you cane become dehydrated.

      @Shiraz321 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if i drink lots of water than will i not retained more water in the body as i have heart condition and had heart failure in 2015

    • @AD-ye6mw
      @AD-ye6mw 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Insight Curiosity. yes you would. but we all need water/hydration. what we don't need is fluid build up which becomes toxic once not flushed out. a normal functioning heart will allow for toxic flushing but heart patients need meds to assist toxic flush. and that process dehydrates so you need to drink water for hydration. trust me it works give your self one week with it and you'll feel the difference.

    I love all your videos! I'm trying to catch up on all of them. Could you possibly make a video about being a nurse and being an emotional person? After switching majors from Psychology to Nursing, I realized I'm an overly sensitive person. I can cry a lot and it's difficult to see people, especially the elderly, suffering. I'm not sure if this is something I can learn to deal with or if it's something that will prevent me from being a nurse. Thanks!!

    what happens if you give IV Furosemide to a patient with Renal Failure? pls i need an answer. thanks

    • @empowern

      +Vj Chiu
      This is a great question. In some cases the risk (in pt.s with pulmonary edema & acute respiratory distress); may outweigh the benefits.... in these situations, we work closely with the medical team of MDs/NPs/PAs and make the best decision based on the clinical. However, if it is a routine scheduled medication & the patient is not in respiratory distress. However, if the BUN & creatinine have become elevated since the medication has been administered, I would call the doctor and see if the medication is still necessary OR ask if the route IV/PO or Dose could be changed. I hope this helps!! xoxo! - Caroline

      +EmpoweRN is it possible that there would be an increase fluid retention and edema in the body because as the furosemide's action is to absorb fluids from cells and kidneys are not able to excrete it out? thank you for your time. i'm really confuse..
