    Funny timing on this, I went to try the mach x last week, came home with the Boston 12 instead - really enjoying it. By looks and on paper I shouldn’t like it at all, but it just feels great to cruise in. heel and fit is surprisingly good for me despite the design and my narrow foot/heel.

    Boston 12 for the win! Which do you prefer between the Boston 12 and NB SC trainerV2?

      Yes I wanted to ask the same thing! Boston 12 vs. New Balance SC Trainer V2?

      B12

    • @RunTall

      I like them both but the NB SC Trainer V2 feels best at the easy long run for me. Because I have both, I am using the Boston 12 for speed work and the NB SC Trainer V2 for the easy pace and long run workouts. If I could only buy one, it would be the Boston 12. Have a great weekend.

    Thanks Tim, this was the comparison I was looking for. I’m leaning towards the Boston 12. But honestly will probably come down to trying them both on. Probably will be picking one up next week 🤞

      I get that. That's the smart thing to do. I always like to try on running shoes if I can. Have a great day.

      Which one did you finally go with Matt? I'm tossing up as well, but also definitely leaning Boston 12!! However I do like a low drop!!

    It was sort of easy to guess which one you were going to pick of the two, ha. I had a pair of Mach 5's last year that lasted a whole three months. At the end of those three months the soles were completely gone, and they felt very little like they did that first week. The only offering I would consider from Hoka at this point is their Tecton X2, as I also like to trail run, and they seem to have been receiving pretty good reviews initially even though they mainly only updated the upper. I have not been running long, and although I have worn Adidas sneakers, most of my life, I have shied away from them when it comes to running, mainly because I am afraid the ride will be too firm for my old bones. Maybe, some day. I have mainly been wearing my SC Trainer v2's lately, and on my longer runs my Asics Nimbus 25's. I have been happy with both but lately have been thinking of picking up the Speed 3's from Saucony, or these Bostons. So the question is, do you go Adidas Boston 12 / Pro 3 or, the Saucony Speed 3 / Pro 3 combo? I appreciate your review.

      I personally really like the adios Pro 3. If you watch the sales you can pick it up for about the same or even less than the Boston 12. They are pretty durable. I have over 200 miles on my first pair of the Pro 3's and they are still going. Have a great day.

      Btw Flood, the Cliftons last way way longer than any other Hoka shoes I've had ... every Clifton (so far from 5 to 8) have felt awesomely good until about 750km, when I then relegate them to shorter runs and keep happily using them for well over 1500km!! For the Mach X though, I'm holding out to see how well they wear 'cause I don't trust them to wear well!!

    I ran 4.5 miles on hard packed trail in Hoka Mach X (demo shoes provided by HOKA) last Thursday and I think it is a good daily trainer for someone looking to low drop shoes. The upper is very comfortable fit and I really liked that. The thin tongue did not cause any issues with laces. There was no tongue bite. The heel hold was also very good. Midsole takes the impact well. However, I felt that it was not quick to bounce back compared to my Endorphin Speed. I think the difference may be coming from EVA foam in the bottom layer vs Endorphin speed being all PEBA foam. The should get rid of EVA foam now that the shoe has some real rubber outsole. The shape of the PEBAX plate might be a factor too. With so little drop differential, there is not much opportunity for an S shaped plate.

    Hi Tim, thanks for the review. Got a couple of questions for you.
    1. how do these two compare with the Puma Deviate Nitro 2, and are all three suitable up to marathon distance?
    2. how is the toebox fit of the Mach X compared to that of the Mach 4 (volume and width).

    • @fraac
      @fraac ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mach X is narrower than Mach 5 (don't know 4)

    • @AR9ify
      @AR9ify ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. B12 is a more speedy shoe than the Nitro 2. I actually use the Nitro 2 as a trainer. B12 and Nitro works for Marathon.

      @RunTall  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Barry. The Mach 4 is similar in width and length to the Mach X. I haven't had the opportunity to run in the Deviate Nitro 2. I do think you could take the Boston 12 the distance. My personal choice however would the adios Pro 3. You can find it on sale at times for about the same money as the Boston 12. Have a great day.

    Thanks so much for the video! Would the Boston 12's be a good everyday trainer for a slower runner (9-10min per mile) or should I opt for something like the HOKA Clifton 9?

    • @RunTall
      @RunTall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. I think the Boston 12 is a good all around daily trainer and does well at different paces. The Clifton has a more comfortable upper than the Boston 12 but I don't think it is as much fun to run in. Have a great day!

  • @AR9ify
    @AR9ify ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Boston 12 is a much better shoe. I also prefer the upper a lot more. The upper don't soak water or moist.

    @runtall does the Boston 12 have the stiff plastic heel cup that is similar to the Boston 11 or does it have the same heel as the Adios pro 3?

    I wonder if your viewers know that the parent company that owns HOKA is Uggs, of Uggs boot fame. 👟 No wonder they’re so expensive and rarely on sale. 😂 Thanks for your comparison review, Tim
