That is literally the reason attempted murder and murder have the same maximum sentences. Yes they can only sentence someone for what occurred, and what occurred was the intent and attempt to murder someone.
The judge got it right. Only due to the actions of a hero is he not being sentenced for murder. He's a bit of a pretty boy for prison. I am sure someone will share their "love" with him.
I have a different prospective of this because I’m a neuroscientist. Violent outbursts due to a traumatic brain injury absolutely are possible and they are also a recognized clinical condition. However that requires an injury to a very specific area of the brain. As far as I know he didn’t have a neurologist testify that he specifically had this type of injury and it was verified by tests such as an MRI. There’s just no way of knowing in this case if injuries sustained by playing football contributed to this attack at all. It’s quite rare too, so chances are that it isn’t a contributing factor, but it still is within the realm of possibility. But the court needs to rule on fact, and the facts to prove such a condition were not provided.
Too bad. So sad. Justice served. Sometimes you get a good conscious judge. The young lady has a life without looking over her shoulder anticipating when he will be released.
I had a breakup when I was 20. We were dating for 2 year prior. I never went after anyone or stabbed anyone. I was sad for a bit, but I got over it and moved on. I don't care that he is a young man, this is a gross overreaction. He should not be allowed to be around the general public again.
Absolute facts. I’ve been on and off with a chick for 14 years and we broke up and she said it was over over and I never thought about going after her. Shits wild
Every breakup I've had has been extremely painful, but the last thing I would ever want to do is hurt the girl I loved. I always wish the best for them and am even happy to hear later on that they got married and had children.
It irritates me to no end when I hear these monsters say things like, "I take full responsibility for my actions," and, "The victims made a full recovery." This man had the unmitigated GALL to turn this into something that was all about HIM!! He most certainly hasn't taken responsibility yet because the sentencing that comes along with crimes so violent is an integral part of someone who truly is taking responsibility, and the time he does in prison is a vital part of accepting responsibility! He took away her mobility, and she will have nightmares about the violence he committed that day for the remainder of her life!! There isn't enough time or money in the world that can compensate her for what she and her mother lost that day!! I lost 95% of my mobility in December 2020 from a near-deadly car accident, and I KNOW the challenges that come with that. It took almost 4 years for me to be able to walk, and the orthopedic surgeons said they were doubtful if I ever would. I can take around 50 steps, unassisted now, and I miss being the way I used to be every day. This beautiful young woman will be dealing with so much for the remainder of her life!! That selfish, violent man knew exactly what he was doing, and he has NO IDEA what he took from her! He lacks the ability to know and care about what he's put her through! He's a monster!! If he really had any remorse for what he did, he wouldn't have gotten up there and made this about HIM!! HE "suffers" from this or that, but what about the suffering he has put upon her and those people who love her???!! Someone who truly wants to take responsibility would also take the time that goes along with his crime! Totally appropriate sentence!!
Right being forced to take accountability is not the same as accountability. First he tried to take his own life to escape accountability, then when that option was removed, he tried to request only 13 years. That’s not accountability. He also tried to make it seem like his family was the true victim by losing him to jail in his statement. Ridiculous.
Yep i agree. If the first sentence is 'i take responsibility' the only honest second sentence is 'i will accept the sentence the court determines'. And do your time with dignity. Anything else makes the first sentence a lie, which does not help at all, just proves he's trash.
21:30 - Parents, beware! I dont care the excuse, or justification, if the world became what it should, any child causing a crime of this nature, the parents would go to prison with that kid. Take the job of parenting seriously. The rest of the world depends upon it.

It was literally the most difficult thing I've ever been through, due to the emotional toll it took on me. I had to see her everyday. I couldn't have been more hurt. That being said, I NEVER even considered hurting her. Myself? Yes, but not her. If this guy flipped out like that one time, he can do it again. He needs to be put away for a very long time. And I don't say that lightly. You just can't act like this in a civilized society. No matter the reason.
I see what you're saying, but it's probably for the best. Public speaking is a skill. There's a reason that even experienced speakers use cue cards and teleprompters.
Right, and don't have ANY form of a pity party. Just straight to the facts. "Your honor, I'm 100% guilty for my actions. I expect the harshest sentence possible." I think attempted murder, attempted whatever should all get the same sentences as the full crime. Just because the criminal failed to get the result he wanted should not give him any benefit.
Agreed, a victim surviving because a better man saved her shouldn’t lead to the attackers leniency in sentencing.
What he did is not something we want him to be able to do again.
We can debate why and how it happened all day long.
The way to make sure it absolutely does not happen again is what the judge chose. I applaud him for prioritizing public safety.
Well put.
Well technically the judge is endangering hundreds of people in prison by adding another nutter lol but guess they dont matter once they in prison hey??? Oh wait but not everyone in prison is guilty uno. Some people have very interesting ways of looking at life and people.
@@martyn-1-1He attacked a teenage girl, her mom and slashed the bystander that came to the rescue. Knowing him he will try to appeal his sentence and try to maintain good behavior in hopes of getting his sentence lowered. I don’t see him going after anyone in prison, but then again maybe he would. He looked like he was hoping his life would just end right then and there after he heard his sentencing tbh, but my empathy is with his victims. Sad that he threw his whole life away because he couldn’t accept the end of a relationship with a young woman that he emotionally abused and proceeded to stalk and attempt to unalive.

I've been suicidal nearly my entire life, but I learned to control those impulses. I've been dumped a few times in my 65 years and even thought about revenge, but I never carried out any of those thoughts. The older I get the less sympathy I have for people using mental illness as an excuse for agregious behavior and that extends from the petty nonsense like lying and stealing all the way to attempted and actual murder. That's why the bar for the insanity plea is so high. You gotta be truly off your nut to get an insanity plea and yet plenty of people still think they can use it as an excuse.
He'll have plenty of time to be depressed now and think about taking himself out.
Me me me me me me
Getting found not guilty by reason of insanity is also horrible, it just means you will be condemned to a psych institution for an undetermined period of time.

It counts, each state has a different amount of time consudered a life sentence
Alot of life sentences could potentially parole after 25.
Being in a Florida Prison is not air conditioned, the violence, racism and poor healthcare and food make the punishment worse than most other states! Mississippi and Alabama Prisons are even worse. Worked in both County Jails and State Prisons as a RN!

Trousdale Turner in Hartsville, TN. A crazy inmate broke into the therapists office, locked the door, raped her both ways, and stabbed her head to toe even in the eye. They could not get the door open and some of the guards would not try to help her. Inmates broke the door down and held him down. They tried to kill him.

He wasn't over sentenced. He intended to kill her and should serve the rest of his life in prison. It wasn't a crime of passion, he stalked her and planned this crime. She was actively trying to get a restraining order when this happened. Now, she has to deal with this whole situation for the rest of her life. Physically and emotionally.
Her statement and recovery video were powerful and really showed how strong of a person she is. She didn't deserve suffering like this. I wish her the best and I truly hope her future brings a lot more healing.
I disagree. He was way over sentenced . 30yrs would hand been sufficient
But he didn’t. There is a difference
@@Mark-jn3wothat is a very psychopathic take lmao just because he wasn’t successful in his murder attempt doesn’t mean a thing, he still purposely attempted to murder someone. That’s why the maximum sentences are the same duh
@@dth91 it isn’t a psychopathic take. There is a difference between intent and actually doing something. Intending to kill you is one thing but if I only injure you, it’s another. You can’t sentence someone based on intent, you can only sentence for what really occurred
@@Mark-jn3wo that’s literally incorrect lmao there is a charge called “attempted murder” which is literally only about intent, and if you intended to kill someone but accidentally didn’t, the fact that you failed at your goal should have zero bearing on your charges, because if you weren’t incompetent you would have killed them. That is literally the reason attempted murder and murder have the same maximum sentences. Yes they can only sentence someone for what occurred, and what occurred was the intent and attempt to murder someone.

I ain’t gone lie, when that smoke just abruptly popped up on screen I was in tears from laughing so hard. 😂😭😂😭
“Get your gas mask ready because it’s about to get smoky in here” I laughed so hard at that. 😂😂😂
Too bad.
Thanks
21:30 - Parents, beware! I dont care the excuse, or justification, if the world became what it should, any child causing a crime of this nature, the parents would go to prison with that kid. Take the job of parenting seriously. The rest of the world depends upon it.
Without that guy, this would have been a murder and then who knows what. So anything less and he would have been spared the sentence because she was saved. He got the punishment for the crime he tried very hard to commit.

@@arachosiaThat he is 100% guilty and expects the harshest sentence possible. Basically admitting he deserves life without actually saying, "I deserve life in prison," verbatim. Only other thing he could have said is that his family has/had no part in the evil he committed. Other than that, that's basically all he should've said. Honestly, he shouldn't have even been able to have the privilege to speak. It should be crystal clear that people that do these kinds of horrific things have no room for any kind of hope. You only get small "hope," after you've carried out your punishment or close to the end of your sentencing. Even that is asking for too much though.
