He tried to murder his ex-girlfriend. Grievously wounding her instead.
Because of the interference by her mother, whom he also tried to kill, and a good Samaritan bystander whom he also tried to kill, was he stopped from murdering his ex-girlfriend.
Seeing the facts of the case, the sentence is appropriate.
What a waste of a life.

    • @jasoncoleman8133
      @jasoncoleman8133 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

At first I thought it was too much, and then after hearing everything, I agree. He should spend the rest of his life behind bars.
He took a young woman's ability to move about freely, and live the full life she deserved, and had the bystander not intervened he would of taken her life. While also attacking her mother and the bystander.
Make no mistake, had the bystander not been there, he would have killed the young woman, and most likely the mother as well. He was soulless, without care, and a depraved manic during the encounter.
We all make our own choices, and each choice carries a consequence. He chose violence and possibly murder, so he belongs in prison for the rest of his life.

He robbed her of a lifetime of mobility, playing with, and caring for a baby, in a completely unhindered way, and she's lost her ability to dance at her wedding, and many other things even I take for granted. The older I get the less sympathy I have for people using mental illness as an excuse for agregious behavior and that extends from the petty nonsense like lying and stealing all the way to attempted and actual murder. That's why the bar for the insanity plea is so high. You gotta be truly off your nut to get an insanity plea and yet plenty of people still think they can use it as an excuse.

I have a different prospective of this because I’m a neuroscientist. Violent outbursts due to a traumatic brain injury absolutely are possible and they are also a recognized clinical condition. However that requires an injury to a very specific area of the brain. As far as I know he didn’t have a neurologist testify that he specifically had this type of injury and it was verified by tests such as an MRI. There’s just no way of knowing in this case if injuries sustained by playing football contributed to this attack at all. It’s quite rare too, so chances are that it isn’t a contributing factor, but it still is within the realm of possibility. But the court needs to rule on fact, and the facts to prove such a condition were not provided.

It irritates me to no end when I hear these monsters say things like, "I take full responsibility for my actions," and, "The victims made a full recovery." This man had the unmitigated GALL to turn this into something that was all about HIM!! He most certainly hasn't taken responsibility yet because the sentencing that comes along with crimes so violent is an integral part of someone who truly is taking responsibility, and the time he does in prison is a vital part of accepting responsibility! He took away her mobility, and she will have nightmares about the violence he committed that day for the remainder of her life!! There isn't enough time or money in the world that can compensate her for what she and her mother lost that day!! I lost 95% of my mobility in December 2020 from a near-deadly car accident, and I KNOW the challenges that come with that. It took almost 4 years for me to be able to walk, and the orthopedic surgeons said they were doubtful if I ever would. I can take around 50 steps, unassisted now, and I miss being the way I used to be every day. This beautiful young woman will be dealing with so much for the remainder of her life!! That selfish, violent man knew exactly what he was doing, and he has NO IDEA what he took from her! He lacks the ability to know and care about what he's put her through! He's a monster!! If he really had any remorse for what he did, he wouldn't have gotten up there and made this about HIM!! HE "suffers" from this or that, but what about the suffering he has put upon her and those people who love her???!! Someone who truly wants to take responsibility would also take the time that goes along with his crime! Totally appropriate sentence!!

Right being forced to take accountability is not the same as accountability. First he tried to take his own life to escape accountability, then when that option was removed, he tried to request only 13 years. That’s not accountability. This same thing happened in the town I live in-late 80s early 90s. Girl broke up with dude while he was cutting either meat or cheese on a wood cutting board . Killed the girl with the knife he was using.
It was huge news locally. Killer ended up getting a life sentence, no parole.
The killer is in the “Lockup” episode for Iowa. I think his last name is Scott but not sure.

I did three years and nothing like that happens. Only ones giving up is the homos who already like that stuff and now can do it to someone who doesn’t care. Gay for the stay is some of the mentality most of them like. Some come back just to hook up again

My High school GF broke up with me at the beginning of our Senior year. It ruined my life. Crushed my soul. It was literally the most difficult thing I've ever been through, due to the emotional toll it took on me. I had to see her everyday. I couldn't have been more hurt. That being said, I NEVER even considered hurting her. Myself? Yes, but not her. If this guy flipped out like that one time, he can do it again. He needs to be put away for a very long time. And I don't say that lightly. You just can't act like this in a civilized society. No matter the reason.

If you're sincere then you don't need to read from a script. Stand there, look the judge in the eyes and take responsibility without making excuses.

I see what you're saying, but it's probably for the best. Public speaking is a skill. There's a reason that even experienced speakers use cue cards and teleprompters.

Right, and don't have ANY form of a pity party. Just straight to the facts. "Your honor, I'm 100% guilty for my actions. I expect the harshest sentence possible."
And even then that still leaves a bad taste in people's mouths bc we're all like, "Okay??!!! If you know this and admit to it then WHY on God's green Earth did you do it????"
Aka: there's not really a "good" way for him to address it.
If you ask me, he shouldn't even have the privilege to state his opinion(s). It should just be straight to the sentencing, which is implied. I feel sorry for the family having to endure the mental or psychological impact of his actions.
