Michael Che was the main writer on this sketch, and said that it came from observing how many similarities there were between the inner city neighborhood where he grew up, where there was a lot of religion, a distrust of the government, a lot of pickup trucks, and everyone had guns, and rural white neighborhoods that featured the same things.

It's very true. I'm a black man from Kentucky. I've lived in the projects & in a rural trailer park. I've always told people that THE only difference besides skin color was simply the music.

Because when slaves were freed, the only people black people were allowed to live next to were poor whites. So they adopted a lot of the culture of those poor white people. Which is why they are so similar.

Olli hit it straight on -- the REAL divides in our country are based upon economic lines, which is why the people at the top have to stir every other pot to divide people; race, religion, sexuality, etc... anything to prevent the bottom half of this country from rising up against the top.

I love what you'all talked about, if you are from the same social class, you got a lot in common. A friend of mine put it like this: They put $10 on the table, and get us fighting. Because of my race I think I should have 6 and you 4. Because of your gender You think you should get 7 and me 3. And they egg us on because if we stopped fighting we'd notice.. wasn't there supposed to be $100 on this table? where'd that other 90 go? And the answer is always the ones stirring us up to fight over the $10.

This sketch is probably one of the best moments in SNL.
I so hoped it might be a start to showing each other we aren't different at all.
It took longer for the message to be heard than I would have liked, but it's being heard, and that's really what's important.
Kinda of a shame they went back to the same old slop afterwards, but it was great in the moment.

White Canadian here, grew up with not much to our names all up and down British Columbia. We also had “the good chair”, “oven heat”, “car tape”, down/upstairs neighbors hitting the ceiling/stomping the floor cause the only rent I could afford isn’t in the best of neighborhoods, “my mechanic friend” who’ll do near anything for a flat of beer and some smokes, like all of this stuff in the Black Jeopardy sketches is super relatable to me and it makes me laugh my ass off. I’ve had to scrimp, claw, and sacrifice much of myself to crawl out of the poverty line, but let me tell ya, this province man.. this province goes out of its way to render whatever gains I attain mean nearly nothing by the time I get it. It can be depressing, so my mom taught me to look back on it all, and laugh at it. Because it’s all so ridiculous.
And you better believe now that I’ve finally become a homeowner at nearly 40, one of the first things my wife and I agreed on was which one was the “packet drawer” ;)

Not all black people are the same, not all white people are the same, but some black folks have things in common with some white folks, and other white folks have things in common with other black folks. It seems like Olli is right that the real divisions in society are on more economic lines and not as many racial ones.

When I saw this as a white man I recalled the time me and my best friend, also white, realized we were black.😉 We went into a grocery store at 2 in the morning and came out with fried chicken, crystal hot sauce and orange soda. This may seem racist but it's the opposite. Who doesn't like fried chicken, hot sauce and orange soda. We are not black but why is this a racist trope. Not saying that we have any idea what it feels like to be from black ancestors but when you're 20 years old, it's a bit of a wake up call. Love this sketch.

I cannot agree more. We are so much alike it is crazy. My family is a tapestry of different races, colors and creeds. If people stopped for a moment while we are being divided, we all want to help each other out when necessary, to help take care of homeless people, bring prosperity to our families and generations after and love one another we'd realize that the enemy is within. There are those that profit so much from the division that they created. Loved your reaction to this one. Glad I was able to stop by and share a laugh with you.

When we focus on the differences we unfortunately forget everything we have in common in this human experience.

I've had my good chair for 20 years. I bought it on sale, because it was the floor model and the last one left. Best purchase I've ever made. It has no cracks in the leather, after all this time. I've babied that chair. My son's grandparents come over, guess where the grandfather sits. In my chair. I get a little triggered, but I let it slide. They've been in wars and I have to give respect. My lady has had her leather couch (throne for her) for 17 years. No cracks. Matches my chair. Also, this is one of the best SNL skits ever.

LOLOL - Oh my!! I have not seen this before. I loved it!! The broom on the ceiling....lol. Tape on the car!! Hahahaha!! the Illuminati. Hahahaha! This stuff was awesome. And so relevant and cross-cultural. Race. Class. Gender. Etc.
I got bored with SNL years ago becuase I'm a stuck-up old-schooler and don't like most of today's comedy. So, seeing this gave me a bump. I think I'll look up some SNL reactions.
You three guys are always fun and I learn a lot of things. It's great to see ALL three of you being loud and rambling. Please react to some older comedy folks. Jonthan Winters would be a great comedian to check out. As would be any of these: Wanda Sykes; Louise Anderson; Steven Wright; Rusty Warren to name just a few.
    Love you guys.

It’s true. You can listen to Chris Rock, George Lopez, and Jeff Foxworthy and relate to all of their stand up if you were poor. On a serious note, if you solved our differences in race, nationality, religion, etc. There will always be a difference in classism and that scares the shit out of the ruling class. That’s why they peddle fear and division. They don’t want us united over class because they are greatly outnumbered. Anyway, great skit. Also, the ongoing joke with this sketch is that the white people on Black Jeopardy always have the worst answers. Any other character is the same. They switched it up on this and it was the whitest person you can think of. 😂😂😂

that was why Fred Hampton was so "dangerous" to the powers that be - he was reaching out to Black, Hispanic and white groups in Chicago on the issues which should unite the poor and middle classes.

Hey guys. Been wondering when someone would do a deep dive and reactions to the Disc Jockeys of the 40’s, 50,s 60’s. They were so famous and they were A PART of music. You guys would be perfect to do a series like that. My generation listened to Wolfman Jack.
