The Zeppelin train should be parked in the shed so the cargo train can go on the outer loop. Great video as ever robin!
Robin, I highly recommend the TrixBrix double-length straight tracks. They are 32 studs long, and replace two of the standard Lego straight sections. This results in less joints, and an overall smoother ride. They are injection molded, and the quality is excellent. Thanks for doing the review of the items you were sent. I was very curious to see how the zero-gap switches would work. Carry on with your new room renovations. I can't wait to see actual city progress restarted!
That looks great! The rhythmic noise the steam train makes is actually the motor slipping. LEGO train motors don’t have much torque lol
Im also a purist, and wont include third party pieces, one exception is traintracks, since Lego havent really made any alternatives themselves. Also the in the new subway system you should have a couple sections underground with generic tunnels that you have a oval shaped holes for peeking into, kinda like you did with you Ninja Turtles Lair.😊
I'm sorry, I know it's complicated, but you need to automate this so all 5 trains are running at once. When the first train pulls into the station it waits and the next one sets off. I know it will be complicated but this is the only time you will have to plan and implement it.
I think this demonstrates the quality of the track. Carpets are not flat and firm surfaces, even with low pile. Everything seems to be staying in place even with three trains running.
I suppose without redesigning to make more underground visible when running it would be a waste to do a big loop like above ground. It will get pretty wild once bridges and crossing get worked in. The smaller narrow gauge had a tipper rail thing for dumping mine carts that looked cool. Having the harbor by the mine would work well so you can get multi use out of the loading cranes for shipping. Laying out the rails gives a bit of idea on critical table placement too. Maybe getting those in and then choosing a corner to work from would work? Not sure how much table space you would need to leave around the edges or cinched in toward the standing holes to maximize usage. That's got to be some trial and error to figure out.
The only concern I'd have with the zero-gap track sections is if any 8 stud wide trains were introduced like the Lego Orient Express, other than that it's great space optimization!
At the rate you're expanding, it's gonna take years to get the cargo train to catch it's own tail!
Exciting times! It's going to take time as you say but it'll be a heck of a journey. On that note, has Mrs Hood Bricks given you a timeframe to vacate the old Lego room?
Oh my - the fun you are going to have! (and the fun we are going to have living vicariously through you)
Just so you know, when I have a bad day, your, "HELLO TH-cam!" always perks me up a little. Thanks, man.
Never heared of trixbrix before, but thats some nice stuff! the narrow gauge for some trams trought the city (besides the elevated mono rail) would be amaxzing. Really looking forward to this city coming along over many many episodes to come!

Liking the Flying Nottsman, looks really nice running. I’m a big fan of Lego steam trains, always nice to see how others build them. Just a shame Lego don’t make extra train wagons like they used to. I run a lot of the 9v stuff and found Fx bricks tracks good, not as much selection as trix in the points and junctions side of things. Best to use the floor space to plan out and adjust your tracks, be easier than trying to around buildings and roads later on.
Awesome video; and now it becomes clear how big this room actually is!!
Love the train setup and can't wait to see how it progresses. Seeing the lego switch track on the outer loop though seems like a perfect place for a special platform for the zeppelin. Or if you wanted to go vertical (possibly a little crazy) it could be used as a merge point where a elevated track slopes down and joins with the outer loop. The elevated track could originate from an upper level of the train shed or even pass through it and join/split from another area of the outer loop.
Funtastic Robin, seeing it all layed out on the floor one realizes how big BN 2.0 is going to be. I look forward to your road scheme and where you're railroad crossing's will be!
This layout is going to be so cool! The train layout is awesome, the way it works is so unique and makes me so excited to see what you will do with the new city. Just a suggestion, but I feel like the main train station should be a large transport hub. As you said you will have the subway nearby but I think it would be a good idea. Awesome video!
Yes! Trains! That's such a great way to have all the trains on display while not in use while maintaining stacked and packed. Can't wait to see it all amongst the buildings.
