Actually, this dates from 1963, as "Triple Snack" is featured in the "Snack-Pak" assortment at 0:59. And the "Sugar Frosted Flakes" box is from that period.
I miss the Saturday morning commercials as much as the cartoons themselves. They had their own characters that appeared weekly that you could count on. This stuff reminds me of the golden days of early grade school, when Friday night was like a holiday, waking up early to eat your favorite cereal while watching your favorite cartoons, and by noon or so heading out to play, with almost a couple days left to worry about school again. Great memories.
There was an early electronic matting process used that came out in the mid 60s that was used here. If you look at the scene where the bull's horn passes in front of Tony, the edges "fry". In the 1950s they'd have made hold out mattes for a cleaner composite. You see, not only do I know the decade history of the commercial , having seen it between the syndicated YOGI BEAR and HUCKLEBERRY HOUND shows, but I also know film technique history having worked in "the biz."
Frosted Flakes must have tasted better in the black and white days because Tony said "They're greeeeat!" in a higher voice than he did in the color tv days.
Actually, at that time it was Dallas McKennon, who did the singing for the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland. By the time Ravenscroft came around, they stopped doing the stretched out way he says, "They're GRRRRREAT!"
@@marinerman Are you sure that's not Thurl singing in Haunted Mansion, cause that voice can also be heard in Pirates of the Caribbean's Yo-Ho, A Pirates Life For Me, as well as other Disney classics like Lady and the Tramp, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and many others.
The good ole days.... when the only thing in your corn flakes that were bad (in over-indulging, that is) was sugar. Not corn syrup, not GMO, not 59 different chemicals....
@kelloggcompany I just read September 16 issue of the Wall Street journal in short. What if Kellogg used their vintage commercials and added new music, digitally altering the cereal boxes. People would love to see them vintage commercials. I would keep a majority of them in black n white.
It is. Thurl Ravenscroft was also one of the busts singing Grim Grinning Ghosts on the Haunted Mansion ride and a buffalo head in Country Bear Jamboree.
Not quite! Sugar Frosted Flakes was Kellogg's first attempt at a kids' cereal, introduced in 1952. Post had introduced Sugar Crisp three years earlier in 1949. And at one time, there were two mascots: Tony the Tiger and Katy the Kangaroo. By the mid-1950s, Kellogg's had children vote over which one they preferred, and Tony won out over Katy.
I did not say that FROSTED FLAKES were not introduced in the 50s. I should know. I was a kid when they came out. I was referring to this commercial from 1964. Two different issues. If one is going to offer lessons in cultural history, reading comprehension should be required. And you might give credence from someone who lived through an era before you were born. So can we go on with the subject and cease the contradictions, please?
I bet they circumsized tony the Tigers kid just because Tony the Tiger had his circumsized and wants the kid to just be like himself XD CollegeHumor sent me here
Sugar Frosted Flakes were GRRRREEAT!!!, bur Frosted Rice was not so much. Kellogg's tried several sugar-frosted rice cereals, including Puffa Puffa Rice about 1967, and Frosted Rice a year or two later...neither took off
@puissse Definately. This was a time before men were "touchy-feely, express-their-emotions, be sensitive, skip-throught-the-meadow-and-smell-the-daisies" politically correct oversensitive girly-men.
