@@mitchellwilliam95 I have the odd number obsession (you'd laugh at the 7 alarms set on my phone)and my last step has to be with my left foot. If I just can't take another step for whatever reason, I have to at least tap my left foot one more time haha.
Preston, I’ve loved watching your love for this band grow. These guys are the modern day Pink Floyd and really underrated. It’s awesome to see someone get it. Your reactions are the best! Thanks bro.
Just found your channel yesterday and I can't stop watching. I can feel the music through you and it feels like I'm reliving the moments when I first heard Tool.
I think The Patient is Maynard’s mom. This is from Lateralus, which came out in 2001 and she had been paralyzed for years at this point. Imagine sitting next to your paralyzed family member, trying to keep them company and showing them love, but how the tedium would really get to you after 20+ years. Despite that, his mom keeps the faith and in some way inspires him to do the same, against his own judgment.
I actually checked the comments, expecting someone to call it out, but after scrolling down for awhile and seeing nobody bring it up, I figured I’d chime in. As with all music and art, it’s not necessarily essential to know what the artist intended, as much as it is to be able to draw some kind of personal meaning from the piece. But, in this case, so much of Maynard’s writing became influenced by his relationship to his mother, and I think it adds a lot of depth and nuance to many of Tool’s songs, if you know the background information.
The patient is him. Its about his issues with the band and all the lawsuits they had been facing as well as his struggles having to wait so long to make another tool album. "If there were no desire to heal the damaged and broken met along, (his listeners) this tedious path ive chosen here (playing with tool) i certainly would've walked away by now. Just my opinion and thoughts.
The simplest things whether it be a musical production like this one or a smile given to you by a stranger walking by noticing you are having a bad day can have the most profound effect on you. Yes, this may not be the depth of complexity that Tool can bring, but the message is driven home very well. Preston, thank you for the intro change! Props on THAT production! As you will say, "now, we may proceed". Keep of up the reactions!
#1. You have a beautiful smile. #2. I was having a shit day. i watched your video on my lunch break and now Im in a better mood. #3. Watching you experience Tool is like getting to experience for the first time again, I appreciate that!
You know what's crazy, dude, I've listened to and loved this song since Lateralus came out, but Tool albums are never published with printed lyrics. I had this ritual back in the day where I'd get a new CD, put on the headphones, lay in bed, and just listen to the whole album all the way through following along with the lyrics, but I never could do that with Tool. I came to appreciate the instrumentals and how the vocals acted as an instrument, and read so much about how Tool lyrics are up for interpretation (hence why they're not officially published), so you watching this video right now and reacting to both the music and the lyrics is like uncovering a whole new layer of meaning and depth and quality to this track (and other Tool tracks you've reacted to). I honestly really appreciate what you're doing because you're helping people like me get even more enjoyment out of some old favorites. Thanks man!
When this album was released the anticipation was beyond limits. The reward was listening to a masterpiece of musical art that did not disappoint. All TOOL heads had to be patient.

Lyrically, it’s not the most thorough Tool song. It’s the message behind it that carries through, and it is by any stretch, my favorite. As a long time sufferer of depression, I relate to this song on an emotional level and it is very close to my heart. Two lines stand out... “If there were no reward to reap, no loving embrace to see me through.” And... “Must keep reminding myself of this.” Those two lines can make the difference when you feel like you’re at rock bottom. It’s a reminder that, this too shall pass. The old saying goes that patience is a virtue. It’s also a lifesaver. Even in your darkest times, there are ALWAYS greater things just over the horizon. Love these reactions bro! New sub here and so glad I have. Its been awesome watching the appreciation for the genius and you growing as a fan. Love the song!
I've been a Tool fan for a long time, but there are just some songs that you revisit after a long while that just re-excite and surprise you. This is one of those songs.
Preston, I'm an old school rocker, have kids that are most likely a good bit older than you. I enjoy watching your reactions and journey exposing yourself to new music. Since you love "details", I'd like to make a few suggestions. I'll list the band name and song, and I think you'll thank me for them if you happen to react to them. For details, another band right up there in my opinion with Pink Floyd and Tool is a band by the name " Porcupine Tree", listen to Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here. I think you'll like them. For Black Label Society, try listening to Concrete Jungle or Sold My Sole which is off of Zak's solo album. For Pure Guitar Instrumental Pleasure... Joe Satriani - Surfing with the Alien. studio version, or Andy Timmons - "Cry For You"...you'll thank me!...Peace!
Dang! I had forgotten all about Satriani! I listened to him in college. Personally I'd rather Preston listened to really old Clapton stuff rather than Satriani. Satriani's playing is more about technical capability than the music. And when he did sing his voice was never very strong. And Preston's only listened to a couple recent live Clapton performances, one of which most of the playing was done by somebody with a synthesizer that sounds like a guitar rather than Clapton himself. I think he'd like classic Clapton.
Clapton is without a doubt, a legend in the blues world, and I believe he has actually reviewed 1 or 2 of his songs. I recommended Satriani as it's not something that he usually would listen too, and thought it might spark an interest in him to venture out into some guitar instrumentals
KamikazeSeatbelt anaesthetise is such an amazing song. Live versions are fantastic. I saw porcupine tree in France at hellfest. Christ they are sublime. Gavin Harrison. Such a great drummer.
Tool was one of the first concerts I ever went to, their light show and music is great AF live. Let's get to them BARS, we need EM to come out with more songs!

Undertow in my opinion is tool sober . No pun intended on the song in the album being titled, sober coincidentally and about not being able to stay sober lol. But lateraluls , their best album , they clearly were inspired by being on lsd and mushrooms. I'm not guess I know that cause maynard has said that him self , but now that grown and done all that stuff before , I now see it very clearly . People think shrooms and LSD are just drugs and they just make you crazy. Absolutely not true at all. We all are on using about 10 percent of our brain. When you do one of those two drugs , it expands your brain and you are using parts never used before, having thoughts you never had before. It brings new ideas out. This album is proof. Plus listen to what they say in the song third eye
Only time I ever saw guitarist Adam Jones move his entire body to the music on stage was to this song, during the climax towards the end. A really powerful track
Glad you listened to this one bro.. Your right they simpled it out a bit but the meesage still hits home as hard as any of there other messages, instrumentals and lyrics and that's what defines TOOL and separates them from all other music for me.. No one compares and never will. Next please check out Tool's "Third Eye" and "4 degrees" and also Tool's cover of Led Zeppelins "No Quarter" and enjoy my bro.. I've seen Tool 3 times live now and there are no words to describe how excellent they are live! You are left speachless by the end.. Highly recommend you see them live when ya can. Carlos hear all the way from New Zealand.. Chur bra.
This is one of my favorite TOOL songs. I find it real fun to play. The whole "I must keep reminding myself of this" part is so fucking good, gives me chills everytime. And can you react to Joe Satriani - Made of Tears (from Satriani LIVE!) please.
Blind Guardian - Mirror mirror | Bard’s song (In the forest) Avantasia - Reach out for the light | The Seven Angels Theocracy - Hide in the fairy tale Kamelot - The Haunting ft Simone Simons Helloween - Straight out of hell Demon Hunter - Not ready to die Demons and Wizards - Fiddler on the Green Powerwolf - Sanctified with dynamite Tengger Cavalry - Cavalry in Thousands
Jason Magistro I think Sober was the first Tool song he did. Wasn’t it? I’ll have to go back and check 😂 The selfish side of me wants him to do a Tool song every day til he’s heard all of them.
He did sober and 46/2. Back when he was first starting Tool reactions. As far as reactions go, gotta say one of the best, is him listening to "right in two". It's been bad ass watchin him discover this shit, hasn't it?

Olly Hudson oh yes Jinjer Pisces..I'm listening all time, its aaaaaaamazing!!
I don't think he'll 'like' it, but we *all* want to see *that* "hold on bruh"!!
I have been listening to them constantly. Their entire library is amazing.
My favorite pastime is watching people react to Tatiana
Art! TOOL and Pink Floyd use sounds in the most powerfully subtle manner that it reaches your soul.
Tool is truly the god of odd time signatures. Great reaction family.
Chur bra.
One of the best Tool songs, imo.
Also, you MUST react to Rishloo - Feathergun In The Garden Of The Sun.
This is one of my favorite TOOL songs. I find it real fun to play. The whole "I must keep reminding myself of this" part is so fucking good, gives me chills everytime.
And can you react to Joe Satriani - Made of Tears (from Satriani LIVE!) please.
This is one of my favorites. The build-up is immaculate
Blind Guardian - Mirror mirror | Bard’s song (In the forest)
Avantasia - Reach out for the light | The Seven Angels
Theocracy - Hide in the fairy tale
Kamelot - The Haunting ft Simone Simons
Helloween - Straight out of hell
Demon Hunter - Not ready to die
Demons and Wizards - Fiddler on the Green
Powerwolf - Sanctified with dynamite
Tengger Cavalry - Cavalry in Thousands
Can’t cut the song short Preston! Seriously, we need a full album review of Aenima and Undertow. How have you not reviews sober, 46&2 and Stinkfist?!
Jason Magistro I think Sober was the first Tool song he did. Wasn’t it? I’ll have to go back and check 😂 The selfish side of me wants him to do a Tool song every day til he’s heard all of them.
You could say that for all Tool Album , you have to listen the whole thing start to end. Same with Floyd it's a trip from start to finish.
He did sober and 46/2. Back when he was first starting Tool reactions. As far as reactions go, gotta say one of the best, is him listening to "right in two". It's been bad ass watchin him discover this shit, hasn't it?
