  • In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink describes the 3 classes of "Corticosteroids" (Mineralocorticoids, Adrenal Androgens & Glucocorticosteroids). Emphasis is placed on the physiological actions of the endogenous Glucocorticosteroids (such as Cortisol) and the pharmacological uses of synthetic Glucocorticosteroids (such as prednisone, triamcinolone, fluticasone, etc). The principal adverse effects are described (including hyperglucocorticosteroidism: Cushing's Disease & Cushing's Syndrome). Reference is made to gluconeogenesis, lymphocytopenia, anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressant, ACTH, stress, Addison's Disease, moon face, adrenocortical suppression, adrenal insufficiency syndrome, and non-infectious oral lesions.

    Thank you professorfink for this very comprehensive video.. This is very helpful to me in my pharmacy review. Awesome! One question that pops up to mind is if prolong use of corticosteroid can make our adrenal gland smaller (as a general rule) because it inhibits the release of natural cortisol in body. Why is it more advisable to give synthetic corticosteroid upon waking up (when body is stressed the most) where in a large amount of natural cortisol is released in the body while the synthetic corticosteroid such as prednisolone will inhibit the release of Cortisol. Hope you can further enlighten my understanding. Thanks you in advance. You're the best professorfink!

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible that there will be somewhat less adrenal suppression by the prednisone (or other synthetic corticosteroid) when taken in the morning when there would be NATURALLY the highest levels of cortisol present. (If the prednisone were taken at other times during the day, it would be greatly elevating the circulating level of corticosteroids compared to the normal state.)

      IDIOTS or something worse . they void what this poison evil drug will do to a person. Many today are suffering and most of them can't think enough to explain it. My doctor knows what steroids can cause your organs to attack your body destroying it. Adrenal shut down is worse than ever with little explaining for the patient has no mind left .
