I have a 2019 (10th gen). I live in Canada and less than a month after buying it back in February of this year, relocated for work and moved ~4600km across the country (~3000 miles). It was her first real test with me considering we were still getting comfortable with one another. But after the five-day trip, my only takeaway was how much of a dream she was to drive. The shortest day of driving I had was about 7 hours, with the longest being two days of 12 straight hours on the road. Not to mention changing conditions and what was a fully stuffed car with easily an extra ~800-1000 lbs of weight. She was comfortable all the way through, didn't feel heavy at all, the seats were amazing, and don't even get me started on fuel economy. Through various landscapes, (plains all the way to mountains, I averaged ~5 L/100km (~50 MPG). I grew up a Honda kid, but bought myself a Focus ST as my first "project car" when I was 19. Had it FBO and was an absolute blast to drive. Is the Civic an objectively slower car? Yes. Do I miss the ST sometimes? Of course, it was some of the most fun I'd ever had in a car. But my goodness 25-year-old me loves my SI. Sleek, refined, subtle yet with still enough in her to have some fun when you really want to. Feels like I went from your crazy college ex -- lots of fun and keeps you on your toes -- to my settle down phase. I love my Si.

For those of you that own or drive one of these Hondas with Honda sensing and aren’t a fan of the radar cruise, you can hold down the follow distance button to completely disable radar cruise, so it just acts as a good old-fashioned static speed, cruise control. LKAS with traditional cruise control is my favorite configuration for my daily commute on the freeway in my Insight.

Rolling on the highway is when you'd want 91 over 87 as your engine is going to be burning it at a constant rate and give you better MPG.

    • @alexp6409
      @alexp6409 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

I was wondering if that had anything to do with the MPG on the trip. I usually average just over 40mpg on my 30 mile highway commute at 75-80mph, but I always fill with 93.

I feel like I even said in the video that this would upset some people. To a certain extent understandable. If I owned the car I’d likely be running 93 constantly, but the reality of the press cars is that they’re run at the minimum octane level required most of the time.
If anything this provides us with a valuable metric for next time we roadtrip an Si! We can compare regular vs premium and see the difference.

When I got my driver's license in June 1970 one of the first things I did was drive my dad's Datsun 510 to Michigan City just because I had never been there before. I bought a Civic Touring Hybrid back in August and though people compare it to the Si no, it's not the same at all. No manual, no sound and subsequently less thrill but at least it doesn't ride like a floor jack. ha,ha just joking.

For the next gen vehicle, Honda can NOT be skimping out on the red for the door panels or the backseats for the 12th gen Civic Si. It needs to be cohesive and carried over to make it stand out and look the part.
No more of this 1 map pocket for the bucket seats. Both seats should have map pockets in the back.
The Hyundai Elantra N, while it too doesn't have rear seat air vents, at least it gives you USB charging connectivity.
It's time to make those Si bucket seats leather or at least leatherette with cooled seat functionality and an adjustable headrest. I don't care if the seats stay manual adjusting, but heated seats only in the sunbelt states Florida to California and over water in Hawaii is useless and unnecessary. I'd happily take the addition of cooled seats if the Si sport bucket seats get a redesign and leather material to make it happen.

So am I. I'm going to wait for the final model year since the 2026MY would technically make it the Civic Si its 40th anniversary by the car's model year.
Whether Honda decides to do something truly special as a send-off for the 11th gen Civic Si or not is yet to be determined by Honda themselves. If it's nothing spectacular, at least give us a 1 model year color to close the 11th gen with Boost Blue from the FK8 Civic Type R and FL5 Civic Type R for the 2026MY Civic Si 40th Anniversary Special Edition Car and if only if this is going to be the last time for the 1.5T engine before the next gen (12th gen) Civic Si, I would like Honda to crank up the boost, horsepower, and torque on the car the way it should've been. At least 20-25hp and 28-33lb-ft of tq just for good measure.
If they don't, it isn't that big of a deal and not a deal killer to me. I'll still get one just to get out of my 2017 Chevrolet SS Sedan because my car has turned into a money pit and is no longer sustainable for me. I have had my time and fun with it, but it's gotten problematic putting in parts after parts and it's like Chevrolet techs don't ever know what's wrong with a bone stock car these days.
I'm tired of naturally aspirated V8s. I want to try some forced induction turbocharged 4-cylinder fun for a change.

honestly if it werent for the safety features these cars deserve to be 10k less. They did a great job making them pretty, and the interiors functional and pleasing to use but comfort wise and performance wise these things are a joke, as 3k rpm on the freeway in 2024 is laughable. could be pulling 50mpg easy.... but they too busy diluting their own market already with the hybrid to pay anyone money to have some forethought with their gearing for once.

The RPMs don't affect the fuel economy as much as you think, remember the cvt cars get nearly the same fuel economy. Not to mention my 2013 si gets 32.5 mpg sitting at nearly 4k rpm going 80, the gearing on this car is longer than they have done. Of course this is likely for the benefit of fuel economy, but Honda engines are happier at higher rpms anyway, even if this 1.5t sounds like a generator lol. Also, with inflation in the last 10 years, this car is about as much as my si cost new in 2013, which was 21k.

also i'd argue that the age range for thinking civics are cool varies; from my early teens to the end of high school i thought they were your avg "rice rocket", but im almost 20 now and am YEARNING to get an 8/9th gen Si as soon as possible. so theres definitely some variables at play

Ive had a 7th(arguably the worst) gen and still have an 8th and a 9th gen that are project cars/Sunday drivers. I've looked at these and have found a few but the dealers refuse to be reasonable. I'm not paying a market addendum.

If you can't drive manual (not you per se, but those in general who can't drive manual), yes, the hybrid would make sense for them.
I've read people cracking close to 45 MPG on the highway in the Si, but that's as far as it goes unless you somehow drive behind a semi-truck or something and you're drafting behind it a good distance, you might shockingly get 50 MPG on the highway that way, but realistically, at 70-75MPH in is where you will achieve the most MPGs especially off the gas pedal and in cruise control.
If anybody lives in the mountain states like Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, or Oklahoma where you can do 80MPH or in certain areas of Texas where it is 85MPH, you're only going to get low 40 MPG or exactly 40 MPG the faster you take the Civic Si.

Not to be annoying but you keep saying a "$30,000 sport compact" but as far as I am aware nobody is getting dealers to give a price like that (I tried multiple times myself) and the best you can get, the very best is like $33,800 so closer to $34,000. Wish there was some kind of rebate or incentive on these things.

I love this car but I feel like it needs some attention from Honda. I hate to be negative but the FWD plus the low power from todays standards make this car pretty undesirable for its price. Id honestly rather buy a WRX and get more power plus AWD or spend a bit of extra money on an Elantra n. I want to love this car but in its current state its kinda hard to.

Fingers crossed that next model year being the final model year will also be the last time for the 1.5T and we move up to a 1.8T or something at the very least to crank up the horsepower and torque on the next gen (12th gen) Civic Si up to at least 230hp.
The Civic Si has been up to 200hp since the 8th gen Civic Si in 2006. The 2026MY is next year in calendar year 2025. You can still have great performance in get 30 City MPG and 40 Highway MPG with 35-36 MPG Combined if done right with a new engine.
