Man is playing an Albert system clarinet, the woman a Boehm. A novel slant to play the traditional set chorus in the low register after the banjo solo. A virtuoso clarinet performance!
Brilliant! I can't think of a better word for it! Epoustouflant, maybe? Shades of Shaye Cohn and Stephanie Trick on the piano , and the whole band could play anywhere in the world - I wish they would! Thanks for sharing this!
Great sound. If you should ever think of coming to Australia, we would love to have you at the Jazz Cellar in Perth. Direct flights between Perth and Tokyo are starting in the New Year.
I have heard many great performances of this clarinet classic High Society but this one takes the cake. This is Traditional Jazz at its very best! Many thanks!
@ William Boyce Brown The Japanese put the family name first and the given name second, and that's how the personnel is listed here. So that's Makiko in this context. BTW, Kensuke, a pleasant-looking fellow, is playing an Albert system clarinet like most of the old-time black New Orleans guys used. It's harder to finger than Makiko's Boehm (pronounced "Bame") system horn, but it sure isn't slowin' him down!
Everyone a star. Great talents all round. Special mention too for the banjo player.
Wonderful clarinets. Truly wonderful! But the icing on the cake was the piano solo. Loved it.

(Tamura Makiko Session)
She to the the traditional set clarinet chorus. Unusual.
Two clarinets and a very busy banjo leading percussion with the drummer & bass. How iconic NOLA can you get? Nice piano & bass too!
Maria can flat tear the piano up, I could listen to her all day, and she's so beautiful--usa
