Funny how ghost stories tend to be around very elaborate mansions or castles. // Hardly ever are they about castle dungeons, cemeteries, hospital morgues, or in funeral homes... where you would think that ghosts would be. They many times have the allure of fake luxury / glitter / opulence....
There’s a local story about the laundry room at our old hospital being haunted (my mom worked there for several years and said she heard many stories about it but never experienced anything herself)

I must congratulate you on the honest telling of the vague history of Chillingham Castle. I've researched this castle for years now and like you say, little historical records exist. I'm pleased you didn't mention the fake made up stories about John Sage and the alleged history associated with him. This is where the castle is making it's money, from false stories of people who never existed. Now a local 'professional story teller' has got a new ghosts called 'seven pence Sally' who first got a mention in October 2021 and he claimed she used to 'service' the guards at Chillingham. These stories are fed the visitors by the 'ghost tour people' and the public simply believe it without question - and NONE of the stories like John Sage, the 'witchy Woods' and the "thousands" of Scots killed there are true. People need to question EVERYTHING they hear about this castle.
I'd love to spend the night here. Not alone, of course. 💜👻💜
I don't believe in spritual mediums. But I hope all the restless spirits find peace and move towards heaven.
