      @@jyanbei I don't think historians think of them as barbarians. It's more like the Romans referred to them as barbarians, so it's easier to stick to the naming. Kind of like how many historians refer to the Eastern Empire as the Byzantine Empire even when they know it's not proper, just to make things easier to understand.

    Thanks HistroyMarche for the episode! I should say it is a well balanced series of events that covers the missing parts of this period.
    I used to learn about the Huns - as an unstoppable force that landed over the stage, without anyone's capability to get them out, but there was not a summary about what was happening at the same time with the other factions, nor about the background of the Hunnic internal mechanisms, and the role of Aetius during that period.
    These details provide much lessons for every state to learn, these were the ones Rome overlooked, and thus paid dearly with its own imperial existence.

The confirmation of africa to the vandals a clear part of it. He was a savior, but when it came to his own interests. He stopped majorian (the future emperor that came the closest to restoring the roman empire) from marrying valentinian's daughter and helping therefore his legitimacy in the attempt to make his son emperor.

    After this series please do a video on Emperor Majorian. He almost saved the Western Roman Empire from destruction and was arguably the last competent Emperor in Western Roman History. Also, felt so sad for his friend Aegidius who couldn't avenge his death.

    • @HistoryMarche
      @HistoryMarche  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm definitely planning on covering Majorian. I already did some research. Can't give you a deadline, but I will cover him.

    • @aaronchahal5080
      @aaronchahal5080 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HistoryMarche that is fabulous also keep up the great work mate! I find the Majorian period interesting as it is barely covered by media yet one can argue it was the last great Triumvirate in Roman history between Aegdius, Ricimer and Majorian it is just a shame the wrong man won.

    • @aaronchahal5080
      @aaronchahal5080 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HistoryMarche Oh also just another idea if you are ever struggling for ideas on videos to make. Emperor Justinian 2nd's life is one to behold and should literally have a tv series or film. Born with the name Justinian and raised with the hope of being a great emperor like his Justinian the great. He started off promising by winning back control of areas of the balkans but he inherited a Byzantine Empire in an uneasy peace with the Arabs and confidence got the better of him and he started a war and got crushed so much so a revolt in Constantinople sprung up and he was deposed losing his nose in the process. He went on exile in the Crimea where he evaded imperial assassins when finally he fled to the steppes and married a daughter of a Khazar Khagan who offered soldier to restore him on the throne. He regains the Byzantine throne with Bulgar and Khazar support and ruled like a complete vengeful despot until he was finally removed from the throne in a revolt.
      It is just an interesting character arc as his first reign had real promise as he ruled rather fairly and made key reorganizations of the theme but he got way too cocky. The second reign was just pure vegeance and the years of exile took its toll on him. It is just an idea as he is not known much but it is an interesting story.
