- Chapter 11: "Follow Freeman!" - Part 2
After capturing the Overwatch Nexus, a vicious street battle erupts between the Resistance and the fearsome heavy synth units of the Combine. In the shadow of the Citadel, Freeman must fight his way through a gauntlet of Striders and find a way to infiltrate the imposing fortress.
Playlist of completed chapters: • Half-Life 2 - Full Pla...
Notes:
- Striders can impale Resistance members with its legs if they get too close, which is unfortunately not shown in this video
- If a Strider spots Freeman while he's going through the tunnel at 5:23, it will lower itself to fire into the opening
- As shown at 7:12, Striders are also vulnerable to weaponry other than the RPG, such as SMG grenades, grenades punted with the Gravity Gun, and Combine Energy balls. In particular, energy balls will cause Striders to gib. All alternate forms of damage other than the RPG will have reduced effectiveness against Striders
- The Strider that appears in the destroyed tunnel (10:48) will lose track of Freeman once he's in the building (unless Freeman is actively shooting it). The Scanners that show up at 11:02 allow it to track Freeman's location if they manage to photograph him
- The last Lambda cache in the game, #45, is found at 14:14
- Half-Life 2's revolutionary and cutting edge squad AI can be seen at work at 16:01
- The area at 16:56 has a constant stream of respawning Combine soldiers that keep attacking the player until the patrolling Striders reach certain spots of the map to use their Warp Cannons
Trivia:
- Freeman can fire on and kill the Striders at the plaza with the RPG from the rooftops, by guiding the rocket over the fencing (2:18)
- The suppression device can be seen up close at 2:53
- The Strider (4:34) is said to be partially inspired by the tripods from H.G. Well's The War of the Worlds
- At 23:16, Barney's line is barely cut off, and the full line (including the full expletive) can be found in the game files. I always found it interesting how Valve censored the line for an M rated game - เกม
21:20 Very few Half Life sounds are as satisfying as that music cue
Agreed. I breathed a sigh of relief after that last one fell.
- "Dr Freeman? I'm coming with you!" (one second later) - "I'm hit!"
- "Wait for me!" (two seconds later) - "Ouuuuw!"
- You're not going anywhere with-" "Aaaaagh!"
...
7:12 is totally new information to me, holy sh*t. Also that kill looked like the one you'd get after a successful hit to an attached Strider Buster.
Yeah, it's not really widely known in HL2 since you are given an endless supply of RPGs, but I wanted to highlight that it is possible to gib them with the OSIPR alt fire.
10:48 I love this moment so much. You've just spent all this time dealing with strider after strider until you get to this section. You think that since they're so big and wobbly that they cant get you in these tunnels. Then *BOOM* this bad boy just starts coming at you and at a significantly faster pace than you thought these things were even capable of. This and the Vortal Combat section in HL2E2 are both my favorite singular moments in this series
Excellent breakdown of why this Strider in particular felt so terrifying. Never thought about it from that angle before :)
@@Sexy_Nutella thanks! It's just a quick little moment but those little extra details make it clear just how much the developers cared about this game
Hope some one makes a mod whare Gordon just middle fingers Breen when he sees him in the tower
If they eventually do an official HL2VR that would be so awesome with the Index controllers hahaha
@@Sexy_Nutella there is a mod for hl2vr, and if you don’t have index there’s a dedicated input you can make to flip things off.
Gordon delivers Barney’s message
10:48 When I replayed HL2 and not knowing most of the encounters, I expected the strider to be in front of me. I was walking, waiting to see it run towards me, but then I look back and was horrified!
Seeing that Strider crawl towards me so quickly was scary the first time!!
"Half-Life 2's revolutionary and cutting edge squad AI can be seen at work at 16:01"
*Is a rebel blocking a doorway*
That was way funnier to me than it should have been lmao great gameplay as usual
👍
Thanks for reading through the descriptions and catching that little dig at the rebels ;)
@@Sexy_Nutella Sooo many rebels got me killed in this section.
The last map of this chapter is the single best part of the entire game for me. It is literally a chaotic battle through a ruined building in order to get the ammo needed to eliminate the striders, and it’s glorious.
Agreed. The fact that you're now literally next to the citadel wall builds the tension as well too
19:21 I like how the gunship shoots at you and then immediately leaves
I wonder what bigger fish there are to fry other than the highly visible orange popsicle of a man responsible for leading the Uprising? ;)
GS-2: I got him on my sights.
*Fires*
GS-2: He's pi--
*Gordon erupts with a Rocket Launcher on hand, ready to take down the Gunship with near full health & armor*
GS-2: fuck nah im out 💀
@@Sexy_Nutella I may be a year late, but, the Gunship might be headed towards some rebel stronghold, not focused on the Freeman as the striders "will" take him out
Thank you for being one of the only walkthrough video creators who indicate what the difficulty level is they're playing on. It can make a huge difference in the strategy and tactics you use.
Thanks, although in this playthrough I often play a lot more aggressively than I play without recording. For the sake of making an entertaining video I try to play as if I'm Freeman reacting to things for the first time.
@@Sexy_Nutella Really appreciate you doing this.
The part infront of the overwatch nexus is the hardest part for me, especially if the striders only targets you
Yeah, they were really damaging in this game. Valve nerfed their cannon damage in the subsequent episodes.
I love how the Striders destroy everything
23:20
Barney: tell him I said "FUCK YOU"
23:22
Gordon: FUCK YES
Lmao
Hah? Chapter 13: "Forget About Freeman!" (HL1) and Chapter 11: "Follow Freeman!" (HL2)
Must've been deliberate:)
I don't remember this chapter being SO epic... in my times playing HL2, this part was tedious, very awful. I'm now wanting to download the game again and play it one more time.
To be fair, this video was the result of me running through the maps probably a dozen times to get the "best encounters" ;)
Man, that part when LG Orbifold hits, chills every time.
Rewatching this series i always wondered if you can shoot the strider from the roof before going from the bridge that connects both buildings
I believe you actually can! But they all just respawn once you get down anyways xD
15:00 This part in VR is absolutely terrifying, the striders are massive, and i was only at like 10 energy and 90 health so i just booked it after the strider was caught up with another strider.
I’ve play hl2 r, and there’s something about the scale of striders that just does not come across in flatscreen mode.
Vr*
bro i like how you spin the rocket a little so that way the ship cant shoot it.. i constantly keep it on the ship..some hit some dont..i keep on dying here. im currently playing it on hard as well.
there’s also a lazier way, just fly the rocket behind the gunship and then redirect to hit its propeller
I can't find anything detailing the differences between difficulty levels, besides health/suit pick-ups and enemy health.
The thing I noticed at 0:47 is that Gordon holds the AR2 with 2 hands. uhhhhhwwwhat?
Its half life 2 update
does anyone know the name of the soundstrack that starts playing at 16:10 in the video?
LG orbifold
@@Sexy_Nutella Thanks
5:01, 6:47 rip
Poor rebels. Took to following Freeman way too literally
10:52 PANIK
That sprinting animation from the Strider is terrifying!
Did you consent to being put into bueno? It's so FUCKING GOOD.
Sorry, not quite sure what you mean! :/
Isn’t there a combine elite with a smg in this chapter?
I don't recall! Do you know where he might be?
Apparently he is somewhere at the end of the chapter, but he also might have been fixed and given the right weapon
Edit: I’m not sure about this but I think he appears after the strider fight in the ruined building
There is actually! He's the elite at 18:51 and even drops an AR2 alt fire on death
No just ar's
That shows how the Combine was losing equipment and manpower and grip during the Battle of City 17
"Half-Life 2's revolutionary and cutting edge squad AI can be seen at work at 16:01" 🤣🤣🤣
I don’t remember there being so many striders.
There's always been that many! 4 at the plaza, 1 at the tunnel, and 2 at the horse statue
👍👍👍👍👍
