It's actually one of the hallmarks of serial killers. Maiming, harming, abusing, and killing animals is how a lot of them start. Now, I'm not trying to imply that Angela is a serial-killer-in-the-making, but to say the cat incident is a red flag is the understatement of the millennium. Angela is a psychopath. Period.

      1. Psychopathy and narcissism are _not_ comorbid, pick one. 2. No, abusing animals and siblings are _not_ typical behaviors of psychopaths and I'm assuming you'd find it quite insulting if I suggested that it's typical behaviors of neurotypicals, even though more neurotypicals than psychopaths engage in said behaviors (both of them).

So is the narcissism and manipulation. Psychopath often come off as very charming. fMRI studies have been done that show differences in the brains of psychopaths, there have also been genetic markers identified. That being said there are people with one or both of those who don't show the symptoms of psychopathy. So nurture is believed to play a part in psychopath development.

Hi RSlash, I worked in inpatient psych for a while and have worked with a few people across the age spectrum with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). From my knowledge, NPD and other cluster B personality disorders (like borderline) precipitate from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. You are much more likely to become a narcissist if you have a parent who has the disorder, and/or if you’re raised by said parent. It can also occur if you are around a lot of people outside your family (friends, teachers, coworkers) who are narcissistic because you learn those patterns of behavior. Angela in that story definitely sounds like she has narcissistic tendencies and so do the parents. This would be one hell of a case study for a psychiatrist if they ever met these people in real life.

The sister definitely sounds psychopathic and like the behavior could escalate. OP is right to worry about a child in that environment, but I really think she should worry about herself. She should get far away from that sister and her bio parents.

im kinda sympathetic for the op on the first one because my father was a similar man that would get fooled by women. He had 5 children with different women, but not once he failed any of us as a father. He was a shitty partner (altough not exactly cheating involved ), and he got into affairs with married women (one of them costed his life at the end cause the husband got him killed). But oh well, he was not a perfect man but he surely was a good father and provider. So I kinda guess. Specially cause i don't like making women inocent victims of it all with no self reflection or force of will or intelligence that just fell into "predatory men", cause women also have agency and this person has proven to be a shitty mother, a shitty person, and a manipulator.
I have never cheated on my life neither i think it's worth risking what i have, but i see where he's coming from.

My father went through "a mid-life crisis" when I was in high school and was hooking up with several women from a South-East Asian country my mother (his legal wife) is also from. We didn't find out until I started university and it was hell. He blamed everyone for his infidelity - my mother, even me and my younger brother. He never accepted responsibility for his actions, he never apologized for destroying our once happy family. Almost all of the women he hooked up with thought he was "rich" (we really weren't), because he was white and kept buying them gifts. Several of these women also intentionally got themselves pregnant, each of them believing he would leave my mother for them (none of them realizing my father had multiple mistresses). He also outright refused to divorce my mother, because he didn't want to pay for it, trapping my mother from pursuing another relationship. OP's sister has displayed consistent psychopathic behavior (narcicism is a trait of psychopathy, but intentionally and calculated harm to herself and others just for the shake of hurting a 'target', is not your average narcissist).
OP's children are not safe. So far the sister hasn't do anything that calls for police intervention, but there is no telling on what she may do once she feels slighted because "OP has refused to give her a brand new baby for too long". OP should warn the school and any caretakers about her sister and family.

It would be so satisfying to see her family tear her down and then try to reconcile with OP to no avail. But sadly, I’m thinking of way too happy of an ending. We all know that even if Angela says the truth, the family (especially the parents) would just brush it off as if it wasn’t a big deal, and they will still think badly of OP. He is the stranger to his kids. What a fool. He's learned absolutely nothing. He's still blaming others for his issues and mistakes. An example, if your business required outside funding to keep going, it really was a shitty business model and not run properly. He'd rather have someone who hates him in his life than be alone. This story is almost exactly like what I’m currently going through. My parents were separated for a bit over a year, and my dad cheated on my mom with a married woman he was having a fling with during their break. The other woman got pissy when my dad(for lack of a better word) broke it off, so she got my mom’s number from his phone behind his back and contacted her. She also sent my mom a VERY detailed letter about what she and my dad did romantically and sexually. The other woman said she got pregnant and lost the baby, and apparently they were very sad about it. All my dad does is tell my mom to “ignore her”, and that she’s a liar when he was literally messaging her when he got back together with my mom. He even went on a trip with the other woman when he had gotten back with my mom. My mom has had multiple breakdowns and feels completely unsafe at home. One breakdown almost made her flee the country. My brother is active duty in the military, and I’m away at grad school. We can’t visit home as much as we’d like. We absolutely hate him for what he has done. We were fine before he came back, and we were helping her manage dealing with an empty nest. There’s no trust. We have caught him in multiple lies. I can’t even look at him without getting mad. Whenever he speaks with me, it has to be short conversations or else I’ll feel like I’ll take my anger out at him. I know it’s unhealthy, but my mom is keeping him around to finish projects at home. Until then, we’ll have to put up with him. I have absolutely no respect for him. I want to believe him when he says he’s telling the truth, but I just can’t. He’s in his mid-50s, but acts like he’s still mentally developing. He says he’s “still being punished” for what he did, and it just pisses me off even more because he thinks everything will be ok if we just forget about it. It’s not that simple.

Maybe he deserves to still be punished for what he did. Cheating in a marriage destroys so much trust that it's hard to get it back for a long time. My brother-in-law cheated on my sister-in-law a few years ago, and to this day she still has trust issues. Like recently he had to go out of town for training and she packed up the kids and went with him for the couple of days it lasted. I personally don't think he'd ever cheat on her again but apparently she's still trying to build up that trust. I've never been cheated on so I can't imagine how horrible it would be to lose trust in a partner like that.

Having psychopaths in my family, no, they ARE just born that way. Dad has disturbing behavior documented from a very young age, like 1st grade. They can be made, but are often just born that way and there's nothing you can do but protect yourself.

Second story: I also already hear this one. OP is so far from being horrible. His sister is a toxic piece of trash and the parents are enablers playing favorites.

Yeah. And part of me wants to those idiot read this and see what people think about them(Angela and the parents are idiots and horrible people). Maybe that will open their eyes, or maybe not. Narcissists are shit because they always blame others for their own mistakes. Although if you burst the narcissist's bubble, they can become dangerous. Besides, Angela seems to be not only jealous as hell, but also very unbalanced. And that treatment of the cat also brings the question of whether she is also either a sociopath or a psychopath. People like that also have those narcissistic traits, and get their kicks out of seeing others suffer.

I believe that the OP in the 2nd story is also female.

Uncorrected sociopathy and psychopathy being the road to narcissism is a new take. I can believe toxic families make narcissism worse, but I've seen narcissism come from perfectly healthy families too. I don't know what my sister's excuse is, out of the two. She was definitely disciplined for bad behavior but it made her double down

Last story: if this is real all those psychos need to be put somewhere so they can't hurt anyone.

First story: I think what OP hasn't fully internalized is that if he wants to ever truly have a relationship with his kids, he has to be sorry that he cheated, NOT that his cheating didn't go the way he planned. It's absolutely the daughter's right not to forgive him. Also, I suspect that, even assuming he's telling the truth, the kids aren't really equipped to disentangle "leaving their mother" with "abandoning them," so since OP left to take care of his son, that is why the girls see that as replacing them with a son.
Also, that's not psychotic-that girl knew damn well what she was doing the whole time.

Story 2: it's the second time I'm listening to this story
And even having already heard everything, I'm bawling my eyes out AGAIN
This is one of the worst stories I've ever seen on theses subreddits
    It kills me, this hurts

Am I the only one that wanted to scream when the OP from the first story had the nerve to say he didn't appreciate another man being in his home he didn't know about, and low key accusing that his wife was seeing someone before they divorced? Sir, you're the LAST person allowed to make that kind of comment.

That second story was wild because the sister kept stealing OP's bfs growing up and then when they got into contact with OP once again, the first thing the sister does is try to steal OP's husband in a roundabout way lol

Only open the doors of the walls are stable. Adding more people can be wonderful (I joined a throuple) but my partners were already both poly-curious and had individual crushes on me (and I on them). No pressure on anyone, just communication and consent.

I think that OP’s parents in the second story did her a favor by kicking her out. She’s now free to be whoever she wants. I hope she’s found peace having her own family 🖤 And yeah it’s totally true that narcissists are made. My ex’s brother checks ever symptom of narcissism! And funny enough, he’s the most insecure person I know. I’m sure OP’s sister is the same. I think she wants children for the social status to feel more important
