That really is one of the better dead bait circle hook billfish tips and also probably the one least often discussed.
Circle hooks are designed to work in a very specific manner (for example, close your hand around a circle and "yank" (or your best roland martin/bill dance impression, lol) the hook by the leader and it'll pull free without catching you btwn the thumb and index...aka "corner" of the month.
Pull it slowly and at an angle and it'll catch ya every time btwn thumb and index finger. Same principle applies if pulled straight vs that approx 20-30° angle.
Try it next time you're rigging leaders or whatnot and it'll give you another perspective on the physics of circle hooks.
