  • My thoughts on the Hongdian M2 mini fountain pen. Overall a solid fountain pen with quite a few similarities to the Kaweco AL Sports. It is currently offered in four colors with two options for nibs: EF and F. I purchased mine on eBay for $22.

    I have M1 & M2. M2 pricing on eBay can be under $15 USD. I like M2 design more. Top finial is interesting, posted length longer. Agree Hongdian is making some very good pens that write well.

      Hi, Chris. I’m thinking about getting a brown M2 as well. I’ll have to shop around for that $15 one. That’s an awesome price. Thank you!

    Did you notice the finial image of two cats, black and white, yin-yang style? It’s a playful touch that contrasts nicely with the sleek minimalist design. I have two M2’s and really enjoy them. One has an EF nib and the other has a F, both write smoothly with no hard starts and have a bit of bounce. (I don’t use shimmer inks.). I believe the #5 nib can be swapped out with other HongDian #5 nibs, which are available in a variety of colors and sizes and unscrew. I agree that the pen’s section/grip isn’t ideal would be improved by being a bit wider and less slick. The M2 is anodized aluminum and very tough. I carry them loose in my pocket without issues, but if your ink is very wet, that might result in ink on the section.
    Thanks for your clear, detailed review. I agree that HongDian makes good quality pens.

      Hi, Catherine. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Is that what’s on the finial? I have yet to take a good look. I love Hongdian pens. I have a gray M2 in my cart now. The blue one is still going strong. No hard starts, no scuffs and it’s just rolling around in my bag. Very nice pen.

      @@drawinsscribblins5326 : yes, the double cat design on the finial is worth a look. Once you see it, it’s obvious, but at first it’s hard to decipher. On commenter said he first thought it was a black cat farting - the whiskers of the white cat misled him.
      I really like these M2s and am awed by the range and quality of what HongDian has been producing the last couple of years. Apparently the company used to make fountain pens under contracts for other brands, but now they are producing their own designs under their Asvine and HongDian names.
      I do wish they would do something to make the sections/grips less slippery and easier to grip. But though the M2 section is narrow and slick, it’s made usable by the flare at the nib end and the length of the section. Like you, I wouldn’t want to use it to write many pages.
      My current favorite HongDian/Asvine pens are the N7 “Moon Rabbit” piston-filler - gorgeous, exquisitely balanced and a great writer - and the V126 vacuum-filler. I have the V126 in transparent amber and in “stealth” translucent black and love both of them. These pens invite effortless pages of writing, but I wouldn’t want them banging around a trouser pocket.

    I didn't know I was allergic to the metal used in this pen....every time i picked it up , my hand would have pain after a few minutes of writing with it....I had to buy a plastic Kaweco , and my hand no longer hurts.

    Nice review, thanks. Do you know if the Hongdian convertor will fit on the Kaweco pen? I have the small convertor on my Kaweco Alsport, and it works quite well, but I would like to have just a little more ink to work with. My Kaweco nibs are a BB, which is smooth, and a B Premium, which is even smoother.

    Thank you for your thorough review. The Kaweko ranges from $69-$90 on Amazon depending on the color you choose. Would you say that it is 3-4 times better. I just purchased the Hongdian with the fine nib and should receive it today. The Kaweko is much costlier, is it that much better of a writing instrument, or is one paying more for the materials and name?

    • @drawinsscribblins5326
      @drawinsscribblins5326  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. That is a good question. I would not say that my Kawecos are 3-4x better but you are paying for made in Germany craftsmanship. I don’t doubt that the Kawecos will outlive me. It remains to be seen how the M2s will holdup. The fact that it comes with a clip at that price makes it more than worth trying.
