Some legends playing there: Di Stefano, Eusebio, Gento, Kopa, Law, Puskas, Baxter, Charlton, Moore, Greaves, etc etc Great video .. wish they still played games like this.
Incredibly this game was played on a Wednesday afternoon with a 3pm kick off. All the players would have been back at their clubs for the following Saturday.
Amazed to see this BBC coverage in such clarity. I have a DVD of the game with Wolstenholme's commentary but a dreadful picture quality. ITV also covered the game and a tape exists somewhere in their archives.
A fascinating tactical point is that Bobby Charlton was nominally the left winger but Alf Ramsey was using him more & more through the centre of midfield which is where he ultimately played his greatest football.
Thank you for showing old matches, many played before I was born. It’s interesting how the game of football evolved through out the years. I enjoy the content. Where else could one find this type of footage? Right? Nice work!

Centre forward Bobby Smith scored 13 goals for England in 15 internationals and yet just 2 years later he was playing non -league football at the age of 32.He had a very sharp decline in his playing fortunes.

Yes, that's correct, Santos wanted £10,000 from the FA before they would let Pele play, he said he would have loved to play, but in those days the clubs had all the power!
I don't think they had the technology for replays until the 1966 world Cup. Hence the famous ball hitting the underside of the bar then onto the goal line and out.
Goncalo G, yes Pele was not allowed to play by his club Santos, as they wanted £10,000 from the FA, for his services! So the FA, decided not to pay this enormous amount for those days, apparently he so much wanted to play, but his club said no £10k no play!
I was lucky enough to be there as a 15 year old to see the greatest goalscorer of them all - Jimmy Greaves. Pure genius.
I was there. Yashin was superb and unbeatable. What an experience.

Yasin as well,great player
They may play another next year it's the FAs 150th anniversary!
Jimmy Greves was a great player
No one to compare with Jimmy Greaves. Saw him live a number of times. He was magic.
My grandfather took me to the game as a 12 year old. I am so lucky to have seen so many great players. What a pass by that great Hungarian Puskas.

What an exciting match!
England were so much more interesting and exciting to watch than the "wingless wonders" of a few years later.
Yashin should not have been substituted. It was Soskic's error which led to the winning goal.
Remember it like yesterday.Pure class!.I thought Terry Paine was excellent and Greaves was magic!.

Merveille de football 🏈🏈

That's crazy and sad
No injury feigning no ott complaing and remonstrating. Played out from the back and the game was allowed to flow.
How many scottish players where in the ROTW team ?? law ,baxter ?
I'm English but,gulp....I have to say that they both deserved to be in that side.

wonder why Pele was not included in the ROTW team. the only chance for him to play on the Wembley turf.
Probaly injured
Santos wouldn't release him he's a national treasure

Heavy boots and ball...😄
Does anyone know why Pele didn't play for the rest of the world?

Distefano 37 ans

Bobby runs 50 yards beating 3 players. Hits a good shot which is saved.... Jimmy scores from 3 yards... Typical :)
