    It is not a criticism, indeed what you do is admirable!

      Ahahahah I kinda like spending my time doing things i like. Being super passionate about space, rockets and motorsport it’s not that absurd for me to spend a lot of my time on these. I live a very busy life, yes, but i think i am happy with it at the moment. I think I will try to keep this balance as long as i can academically afford it :)

    After reading some of your comments it's amazing how different university is every country. I am also studying aerospace (tho because the market for rockets and satellites isn't big here its actually closer to aeronautical) in Argentina and just finished my 1st year, with the 2nd starting on March. Im so jealous of the rocket competition, we have nothing of the sort here and we don't get many practical tasks until like 3rd year (total of 6, tho last one is pretty short). Even tho I had 8 subjects which was like 4 hours a day Monday to Saturday (not including study time) you are a lot busier than me, the level of your university must be really good, really admire that and the fact that you can also do projects. Anyway good luck on your studies!

    • @christianferracane
      @christianferracane  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, it's true. I also discovered that universities are very different from each other! Having the opportunity to participate in competitions and stuff like that is amazing, but university side believe me also polimi is very theoretical and close to zero practical. Good luck on your studies too!

    This was really interesting to see how studying aerospace engineering is like in a different part of the world! I'm currently in my senior year of my AE studies at the University of Central Florida and plan to graduate in December of '23.
    I got a bit confused during the video, but were you saying that your sessions of Calculus were just periods to work on homework? Also, how long were all your classes? I know there are some that can range from about an hour to 2 hours. It also sounds like you have quite a lot more in-depth classes than what I've seen. It was also cool to see how Politecnico di Milano also had their own experimental rocketry club and to find out about EuroCup.
    How far along in your degree program are you? Do you guys also have a final-year project as well?
    Also, from one AE to another, I know the stigma is that engineers don't get much sleep and there are nights where that can happen. But if you are able, try to get more than 4 hours of sleep. I know I've done that before and later find that I'm hating myself afterwards and feel drained a lot earlier.
    I wish you the best of luck in your university career and keep reaching for the sky!
    P.S. Sorry. I know this was a long comment with a lot of questions. But I really enjoyed watching this.

    • @christianferracane
      @christianferracane  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      We have examination sessions. There is a break from December 20 to February 20 when we have no classes. This year I had 5 different exams. During this period you can try exams 2 times and accept or give up the grade you received. At this time you can take an exam up to 5 times during the year. Obviously, the opportunity to retake the exam so many times means that they are also much more complex. During these two months off we have time to prepare for these exams and to take them. consider that the dates of my exams for example were very tight anyway: January 3, 9, 19, 23 and 24 for the first "round" and in case I wanted to take them again I could go on the 30th, 3rd, 9th, 13th and finally the 14th of February.
      this means that it is actually not really two months of "vacation" but rather two months of "finish one exam and study right away for the next."
      classes last from a minimum of two hours up to three generally, with a few exceptions; last semester for example I had a 6-hour lab in a row every week.
      yes, the lectures are very in-depth and extremely theoretical, often too much so. I'm in my first year, but since high school lasts 5 years here in Italy and not 4 like in the states, I'm actually the same age as a sophomore. unfortunately, we don't have an end-of-year project like many colleges in the states, which makes college, especially the bachelor's, very theoretical (sadly). What we have instead is a mandatory thesis at the end of the three-year course. In that sense, you may be more familiar with it, we are more like universities like Princeton for example.
      ahahaha, I will try to get more sleep. I know the solution is not to cut back on sleep hours, but sometimes it is the only solution.
      thank you so much for everything, I appreciate the comment, especially because so long!
      good luck with your studies too ;)

      hey I'm currently a junior in high school and thinking of taking aeronautical engineering as my major but I've heard that it is very hard and I kinda want to enjoy my 20s, go out with friends, date and all the that stuff. do you think aeronautical engineering would be a viable degree for me?

    • @CPS747-8
      @CPS747-8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@keerthi155I'm sorry it took so long for me to respond.
      If you want to be an aerospace engineer, it can be very rewarding (especially if you want to work with airplanes or spacecraft). But you will need to devote a lot of time to the degree and be committed to it.
      It also depends on what you want to do in life. I personally have been super interested in airplanes since I was 8 and have been wanting to work in aircraft design for a very long time. Even though there were times that classes were kicking me down, I stayed determined and asked lots of questions. So I've been wanting this for a long time.
      Depending on how interested you are in aerospace engineering and how badly you want it, you may find it to be a good fit for you or it may not be.
      Now if you also manage your time well, you could also do some stuff and hang out with friends. There might even be some opportunities that won't want to miss that you might want to go to (like if you wanted to see a really cool rocket launch). You would just need to make sure that you're keeping up with your grades and not letting yourself falter.
      But you have to ask yourself: what do you want to do in life? And will you be happy with it years down the line?

Most people here choose computer science and are so surprised to know I actually chose this they go "Oh but it's so hard and you won't get a good job"... La stessa cosa in parte succede anche a me perché essendo una persona curiosa passo i pomeriggi a fare ricerche su una vastità di argomenti e questo è sia un vantaggio che un problema perché se è vero che ho una buona cultura è anche vero che non passo molto tempo ad analizzare il singolo argomento (capiamoci su alcuni che mi interessano particolarmente approfondisco ma generalmente non lo faccio).
