    Instead of cutting the bottom to a point, simply drive a screw in the end so that about 3/4 - 1 inch sticks out. Holds the support into the ground really well.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It's perfect for solving my problem. Last year my branches touched the ground. This year there will be many more pears. I am really looking forward to enjoying.😊

    Peach tree with four trunks spreading out in different directions I plan to tie the trunks together right after blooming before the fruit gets heavy. I can use zip ties to tighten the strings. Then I will lash adjacent branches together so they form a circle around the four trunks making a basket that will grow together.

    I too had a few branches break on me. Two from my peach and two from my pluot. Super heavy producers! Lesson learned for next season.

      The Busy Gardener, exactly. I had to support a couple other branches to keep them from breaking. At least I was able to save some.

    Me too. Apple tree branch took off with so much fruit and new branch growth has just broke with the weight. I should have watched this this morning.

    The cooler temps gave us more chill hours, which I think contributed to larger than normal yields. What have YOU done to support your fruit heavy limbs? In case you're curious, here is the link to the 3D printer I use: amzn.to/2KuGSsj , and the filament: amzn.to/2yUBDvv - It's hard to imagine too MUCH fruit being a bad thing, lol!

    Wish I had seen this a week ago. Young tree with about 500 peaches got overloaded and then wrecked by a storm with heavy wind, rain and hail. I made supports and duct tape for broken branches. Doubt it will hold.

    3D print a coupler for the single stick method. Now use two pieces of wood. The coupler is fastened to the bottom of the top piece of wood and the bottom piece of wood can slide through the coupler to make any length you want. Now put a small screw in the coupler to go into the bottom piece of wood. You could even make the coupler with a threaded hole and use a bolt to tighten down against the lower part. Another method is to use a two-piece 3D printed X coupler that is fastened with a bolt at the center of the X. The two pieces of wood would slide through the two sides and can then be fastened in place at each slide. You can then 3D print a sliding branch support for one support so the branch is not pinched in the crotch.

    I'm glad I found your Channel because I'm looking for a solution for my fruit tree. I like your ex support I would just put a rag in the joint and possibly sand the edges smooth.

    • @TheBusyGardener

      That's a great suggestion! Especially as more weight is on the branch.

    Might want to thin out your fruit right after blossom and control your fruit load. Fruit is stressful for a tree and takes away from its immunity from disease and energy reserves. The broken branches thats on another level. Love your videos.

    Difficult thinning trees but has to be done. Should we top trees to make easier picking ? or let nature control it? my peach tree is tall and vulnerable with thin branches.

    wow...great idea. I don't have the luxury of a 3D printer but since you have one here's a tip for the bottom portion. Instead of guessing the height and cutting a sharp stake like end why don't you 3D print a sharp end with the same plastic or harder plastic like the one you did for the top. This way you can drive the stake down, Trim and fit the pole once you know the correct height.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good thought! You know, I just ended up cutting the bottoms of the wood at an angle, which makes it easy to stick in the ground.

    My pea tree is heavily lias with fruits this year and all branches are hanging to the ground. It was fruiting prior years but never ti this point. I decided to put fertilizer this spring to encourage fruiting since it wasn't fruiting well last year. Did I mess this up by giving it food? The branches are taking up ground space which is hard to cut grass.

    Hey there The Busy Gardener. I've watched many of your videos two three times but I constantly get interrupted (I have 2 little boys:). Anywho, my question is, I have an area approximately 14' wide by 19' L+. Im interested in planting my citrus trees in a row in this specific area. How far apart would you suggest I plant them (from trunk to trunk)? Also, how far from a wall would you plant them? I hope this isn't too confusing. Thank you for your time. Keep up with the great videos.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! It really depends on how you want them to eventually grow, what type of size (standard, semidwarf, dwarf, etc.). For example, I've planted my semi-dwarf citrus in groups of 2 or 3, about 3 feet from trunk to trunk, but each grouping is maybe 8 feet from the next nearest grouping. I would plant them no closer than 3 feet to a wall. Your space is more like a square, so you may be able to get away with a couple rows of 3-4 trees each. Lots of ways you can approach this. I hope this gives a little food for thought. Thanks for watching!

    Not to be harsh, but I can buy several seasons of fruit from the farmer's market, for what a 3D printer costs. Also, the notion of generating more Plastic that will eventually be disposed of, for a gizmo on top of a stick, seems inappropriate for environmentally sound home gardening. Jute or sisal string works as well as zip ties, and breaks down versus more plastic bits in the grass.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not harsh at all! I already had the 3D Printer! The plastic is PETG (same as water bottles) so recyclable. The reason I'm using it is to prevent any girdling or damage to the branches and to distribute the weight across the support. Agreed, less plastic thrown wasted or around, the better!
