The gift of prophecy doesn't occur today, because the bible has already been written. If you're getting revelations from god, isn't that like scripture? So are you adding your writing to the bible? Because the bible is not to be changed or added to.
niecers well, ok, so people can have dreams of god...that isn't necessarily prophecy. The gift of prophecy was used for god to give his word to his people, which is the bible. This is why a lot of Christians say this gift has ceased, because God is done with writing the bible. If he is still speaking through people, then that's like giving scripture.
niecers dreams and prophecies are different though. Dreams are just your brain unwinding and emptying itself. People who have dreams of god and revelation are not prophets. Prophecies are ridiculous anyway because they can be interpreted in many ways, at many times. If God really needs to say something, he can come down and say it. He doesn't need to use all these riddles that people claim are dreams and visions. I guess if you think that God speaks to you or this guy or whoever that's fine...I just don't agree. And it's even worse when all of those "prophets" start asking for money, which god didn't do in the bible.
