The solid defense Luka played this whole postseason/2nd half of reg season was just lost on all these idiots because the Celtics wore him down. He had to do everything in that series, Kyrie no showed and the role guys were awful.
I agree it's just crazy to me that people are doing "luka has bad defense" takes when his defense was the least of the mavs worries in that series. Kyrie being inconsistent, the other mavs players not hitting 3s, Boston defense all contribute to the lost. Mavs defense was absolutely a problem. Too many easy blow bys leading to easier buckets for a Celtics team who was not shooting well most of the series. It was the difference in the series

We did not get enough time of a prime DERRICK ROSE to know what he would do. But the fact that he was able to remain a productive player long after losing his enormous athletic advantages say that he has the CHARACTER and WILL to have have become a historically great player had he not lost his physical gifts.

Colin always uses those same 3 players to say he was right. Westbrook/Rose/Melo. 2 are first ballot HOFs. The other one is Derrick Rose. And his prime was cut short by injuries. Exactly...I am MAVS fan. He needs to grow the "F" up and man up. If not, he will wallow around and not be the champion he can be. He needs to continue to grow and be a better teammate, which he can be.

There are so many things I take issue with, with what Nick said. 1st, Luka has thr highest usage in nba history and to say "hes a willing passer of the ball" is just kinda hilarious. Steve nash is a willing passer, luka is about himself first. 2nd, to just say luka can become steph on defense is not realizing that the 1st step to becoming better on defense is getting is much better shape, to which he hasn't shown he can do. I lean towards Colin with thinking luka prolly just won't focus on defense in his career and it will hold him back.

Despite Luka's pathetic defense the Mavs lost because their offense couldnt do enough vs the Celtics elite defense. 88, 89, 98, 99 points in their 4 losses is just not enough. They actually held the Celtics to their lowest 5 game scoring stretch of the season. I think Luka needs to get in better shape so he just relentlessly get to the paint on offense. If he doesnt get winded he could probably drop 40+ when the Mavs need it.
Never understood why ppl compare Luka to Lebron. Their games are nothing alike. They don’t even play the same position. Luka is more similar to James harden. They’re built quite similarly. They both dominate the ball and are great scorers and passers. They’re both horrible defensively. Luka has a better mid range game, but harden was a better 3pt shooter. Also Luka doesn’t choke in the playoffs like Harden. It’s not a perfect comp, but it’s more accurate than the Lebron comp.

Why don’t we discuss offense before discussing defense? The Celtics did not average 110 points in 5 games! The Mavericks did not exceed 100 points in 4 games!! Now everyone has been reviewing LUKA haha, LUKA’s defense still has room for improvement, but there are many offensive problems big!!

It has already been forgotten that Luka CARRIED this team for middle half of this season. Kyrie was out and they didn't have PJ or Gafford yet. He was doing EVERYTHING for like 30 games straight. He kept them afloat SINGLEHANDEDLY. You can't say the same of any other player in the league this past season. You can be in great shape and still have that wear on you. Team will be more with him next year and he will be able to pace himself and will come into the playoffs spitting absolute fire. Can't wait to see the haters cry and whine.

Mavs also at times couldn't get stops at all. There defense was definitely a problem they were giving up blow bys and letting tatum and brown to rim over amd over. Also J.Kidd made zero adjustments during series hes awful coach.

To compensate for Luka on defense, the Mavs need to invest in a bonafide defensive specialist. At the end of the of the day, in order to win in May and June you need a TEAM. Jordan didn’t win until he had one, while Bird, Magic, and Steph played on full rosters with an abundance of skills. Dallas has gaps on the roster and it was exposed in the Finals.

These clowns are defecating on Luka now (and part of this is anti-Euro xenophobia) but he's the reason they got to the finals and he's the only player who showed up and put points on the board consistently in the finals. Kyrie was MIA for most of the series and the rest of the supporting cast only showed up for game 4. If everybody came to play like they did in rounds 1,2 and 3 of the playoffs, they likely win the title and the real story is why couldn't Tatum score for most of this series.
Luka was the reason they got there, and the reason they lost. Both things are true. Sometimes the horse you rode in on isn’t enough when you get there.
When you have the three worst blow by percentages ever recorded in one playoff run, eventually you’ll run into a team that can expose that. The celtics targeted him and went right past him to the rim over and over and over and over and over… Watch more than just scoring highlights and you’d have seen that clearly like everyone else.
The only game Dallas won was the only game he put a disciplined effort to move his feet and stay in front of people. The role players follow the stars. When the stars aren’t trying the others will follow, when the stars dig in, so do the role players.

Had they done so they probably win because Porzingis was hurt and Tatum did not play consistently well all series.

MJ won because he was an elite defender (DPOY/1st team defense) AND the leagues most lethal offensive weapon.
