Could he have given a little more effort and hustle on defense? Yes. Would I have liked for him not to complain so much with the refs? Yes. Low it’s funny how the tables turn, Low is the same guy that be narrative pushing hate on players he don’t like nonstop even tho people admit they are not that guy and they accept it, he won’t stop until he gets the last laugh but now you telling me you can’t sit down and watch others do the same to your favorite players when they can’t or don’t get it done. Yes we know Luka is that elite superstar on offense, but he’s not the same off ball, and he needs elite athleticism to make up for his lack of defense to recover his mistakes when gets blown by, it’s just these guys come with a price they are incompetent in offense. That’s his style, carry heavy load on-ball in offense and then be mediocre at best on defense.
It doesn’t matter if he’s not solely the blame for his team poor performance in the finals, he’s a part of why they couldn’t get the job done. He was getting blown by every time on defense, putting his teammates in rotations, the same rotations he wasn’t giving effort to crash boards or closing to his man. That’s your type of player, offense heavy, defensive lacking, box score heavy, stats oriented players that will make you go crazy without acknowledging the other side of the ball.
Last time I checked you were pushing crazy narratives against a guy who didn’t close out on his first finals. Maybe you just hate inefficient scoring players.

I've said this awhile ago. I don't think Luka and Kyrie works as well as people try to say they do. There were some games where Kyrie only took like 9 shots the whole game in the playoffs. This "Luka is the center of the universe" stuff throws Kyrie off a lot in my opinion. Everything on that team is predicated off of Luka and the Celtics were able to expose Luka. Horrible matchup for Mavs

@@bigmo8588 Nah the first two games of the 07 finals were blow outs with the Spurs having a 15 and a 28 point lead in those first two games entering the 4th which were massive gaps due to it being one of the slowest paces finals ever. Not to mention an 8 point lead coming into the 4th in game 4.

He was just injured in the playoffs which really hurt his mobility on the perimeter. He was more engaged all season but those 5 finals games are going to make everyone think he is an awful defender when he was actually decent for stretches this season on defense.

I wanted to say that back then people said "Dirk is too soft" every other day. But you mentioned it. (I loved Dirk and Nash Dallas back then).
They tend to forget that Luka isn't a burst player, his play-style reminded me more of Bodiroga's one (not an NBA player), slow but methodical. Secondly you can't ask for an offensive oriented player and your main volume scorer to put more effort into defense, because he'll still play garbage defense and he will be worse at offense, specially if his legs don't last that long. And lastly, Dallas was the best defensive team in WC playoffs (if I remember correctly) and still the way to beat them was to outscore them, instead of playing better defense (Minnesota told us), exactly because Luka can not be guarded or double teamed.
PS: I forgot to mention that, in the whole playoffs run everybody could see that Kidd was hiding Luka behind the weakest player of the opponent team. And suddenly vs Celtics they shocked by the fact that Luka wasn't a good defender. Copium on the hype train.
