Woodturning - Aspen Christmas Tree With Lights

It’s that time of year again. Here’s my first woodturning project for the Christmas season. Pretty simple, but I like the result and my wife loves it!
This began as a simple Aspen log from a tree that we had take down in our year earlier this year. It was actually a little wet still once I started hollowing it, but I don’t think it will crack over time.

I’m just curious, would a base with bulb in it work just as well. Just wondering
