I'm a solo player and actively avoid combat. I got the Polaris to use as a mobile home base due to its massive health pool helps it maintain any harsh environments I choose to land and explore. With it being able to hold so many vehicles and ships I can load up everything I own and have everything I need for whatever I feel like doing that day with me. If they sold a model with to torpedoes and only pdc I would have bought that! I rarley fight lol
Quick update: This of course was recorded before the price jump. The Polaris is now $975 standard price and $850 warbond. Quite the price jump due to the modifications made to the concept to get it in game.
it is much larger than anticipated. it was originally supposed to be about the same size as the Hammerhead, but when they shifted focus to having it be able to house a Sabre/Scorpius instead of just an Arrow/Gladius the ship jumped in size
The million auec repair cost is specifically the two front guns, each one costing about 600k. We found through tests that repairs are low as long as the turrets stay on.
Dont forget about the RP use certain ships have. am sure you known that there are content creators that have made whole careers around just old moded GTA RP. this has things like jail cells with working remote cams, a full Ter 2 med bay, Rec room ect. I have loaned my won ships to the RP guys number of times when they visit a new patch. I use it for carrying ships that don't have a logout bed. its over kill for that but the Liberator is not in game yet. its currently a loaner for a number of 600i and up sized ships. repetitive theme park style MMO mission running is not the only thing some community's do for the lols in games
you should test if you can stop PDCs shooting down all your torpedo's buy fireing rattler missiles so the PDCs shoot a those, thus giving a narrow opening for a torpedo to hit. it would take team coordination. so that the fast rattler missiles arrive at the PDCs 2 km engagement range just a few milliseconds before the slow torpedo's do. a ship good for rattler missile spam could be put in the top bay. obviously, that mirrors real life combat at sea today. with attackers try to break thru the real life PDCs (seawis) on navy ships, with coordinated saturation attacks. BTW the Torpedo tubes and be damage buy gun fire form other ships. then u can't fire them.
On one of the IAE Show's the John Crewe and Richard Tyrer talked about the intended progression of taking down a another Cap ship. They said that the Shield emitters should be destroyed first then focus on destroying PDC's and Turrets or Engines. Before you ever consider shooting Torpedo's at it. So basically you are going to have to have a well oiled machine and group of coordinated players in fighters as well as a Polaris in order to even attempt to take down an Idris in a timely manner.
Increased arm times would make a lot of sense. And yeah, I noticed this problem when trying to do phase3 with two friends on the polaris, just for Science! we knew it was massively undermanned.
I would say as of now For now until things change. The changes with the PDs being able to target fighters now makes the Polaris a somewhat okay to solo if you get attacked. People say only lightfighters but my PDs have literally attacked cutlases and Vanguards. So idk what it means by "fighters" for now. But if I see which npc ship my PDs decide to target, I just follow that ship with my Polaris and with how accurate the PDs are, the ship just gets destroyed almost instantly. So yeah that's why I say its okay "for now" to solo until things change. I don't pvp so idk how the PDs would do against a player but PVE. It's good.
The Polaris is great for ERTs because it has all that cargo space for storing loot. Thinking of the cargo bay as only containing supplies is missing the forest for the trees IMO. edit - also I strongly disagree with the torpedo takes lol. Torpedoes are supposed to be used as finishers, you need to brawl with the enemy to compromise its PDC system. There's also sorts of fun counterplay. You can try to overwhelm a PDC system with lots of small warheads. In a close range dumb fire scenario drop noise before the dumb fire, that should confuse and disable the enemy PDC system for a short period. Only thing I would say is yeah, they should probably add a minimum arming distance.
ERT's with full crew or 1-3 people? Might be a dumb question but I'm finding it to be a little bit of a struggle with me and my bud. It aint that bad but was expecting a tad more damage out of those size 6 cannons. That being said, it's manageable and we're having a blast doing it. It's the first time I've had a friend be happy in the gunner seat, also the first time I've happy switching being piloting and gunning with him.
How many 890 jumps were melted today for the Polaris? I'm betting a bunch. I love the Polaris, it is great to fly and a ton of fun with a large group of friends.
What you said about the PDC’s having too little firepower to kill fighters is flat false. Ever take the Polaris into a pirate swarm? The PDC’s shred fighters that get into range. In the PU they are broken and don’t target correctly. That’s a bug not a feature.
torps are not for range, if you shoot at range another uee capital will shoot them down, ive seen the s4 quads replaced with the adb gatling and they just wreck everything lol
I'm thinking of upgrading from Hercules to Polaris. Is that wise considering that the game is still in the testing phase and does that ship stay with me permanently?
There are ways to use the torpedoes in battle. You simply slow down. You can get close enough to a ship that it's pdcs don't have time to shoot your torps.
They still will instantly target the torps as soon as they spawn in, we have tested this pretty extensively. So you will have to be careful otherwise you will be caught in the blast. Although if you do manage to slip one past them, the explosion will more than likely destroy nearly all the PDCs and turrets on that side so follow ups are much easier at close range afterwards.
I don’t think there should be a fix for torps or being blown up on exit. It rewards skilled players. Sure there’s an element of luck, but use your torps smarter.
Why is no one doing a Common Sense ''COST OF OWNERSHIP'' for the Polaris?. The ship is a milestone in the games development, beautiful in conception, with gorgeous aesthetics, both inside and out, enormous potential in capable hands, yet the amount of owners who plan on SOLO gameplay is staggering, they seem to live in denial of actually whats involved in releation to overal C.O.O. There is countless laughable ''TheoryCrafting'' associated with every aspect of romancing ownership of Capital class ships, but now more than ever with COSTS starting to get rebalanced to something realistic, Weapons Control being redistibuted away from the Pilot, Engineering, Fire Management, Life Support, Advanced Scanning, Component Targetting, Ship Armour and ballistic changes....to name but a few, SO what will be the tally for SOLOing a Capital Warship?
I really think a lot of people will start melting Polarii left and right when the Perseus comes out. Missile gameplay is just boring and if the latest ISC is to be believed it will probably stay that way.
gotta a small, non-RP org. i'm in an org with about 8 core members, another 15-20 semi-frequent members, and like 40 more people who rotate in and out with the seasons. it's super chill, ranks are honorary at best, and it's just a good time when i participate and not a deal at all when i don't
@SJ-mf2ci For one, its primary offensive weapons are its torpedoes, not the guns. And two, it has two shoulder turrets that are quad size 4s, essentially, two hammerhead turrets. And the chin mounted size six. The size threes are not the only thing the Polaris has. If you want stronger offensive guns, then the Persues would be better, but you lose some utility.
@HybridVAudio I know what it has. I've been playing the game since 2016. The size 3s aren't appropriate for a ship of this class, and they can't defend the ship properly. At this point, the Hammerhead and the 890 can defend themselves better against fighters than the Polaris can.
@@SJ-mf2ci You do realize the 890 only comes with two size 3 turrets and two size 4 turrets? Neither of which are quad gun turrets? Also, the hammerhead is designed to fight fighters, its a gunship, a non-capital class vessel at that, so I don't know why you bothered making the comparison.
@HybridVAudio You obviously haven't done much PvP in the Hammerhead. The Hammerhead can barely defend itself against fighters, and its sole purpose is to be antifighter. The dps of the Hammerhead is around 28,000 for the turrets. Yet 4 to 5 fighters can easily take it down. Imagine what happens to the Polaris with a measly 9,400 dps in regard to its turrets. The 890 falls just under that 9,400 with its dps of 8,000. However, the turrets of the 890 have better overall coverage than those of the Polaris, making it more effective. I don't know about you, but I think it's unrealistic that a yacht has almost as much dps as a capital ship and has better coverage.
@HybridVAudio From ChatGPT: Between the 890 Jump and the Polaris, the 890 Jump is better at defending itself against fighters based on energy weapon damage alone. Polaris: Turret Configuration: 1 manned turret with 2 Size 6 energy weapons. Multiple turrets equipped with Size 3 energy weapons (exact count varies but typically 4 turrets with 2 weapons each). Total Energy Weapons: 2 Size 6 energy weapons + 8 Size 3 energy weapons = 10 energy weapons. Strengths: The Size 6 turret is powerful but not optimized for targeting small, fast-moving fighters. Size 3 turrets provide some anti-fighter capability but lack the number and spread of the 890 Jump’s turrets. --- Coverage and Anti-Fighter Capability 890 Jump: Turrets are placed to provide good coverage around the ship, allowing for consistent fire against threats from multiple directions. Size 4 and Size 3 weapons offer a balance between damage and tracking speed, making the 890 Jump more suited for engaging fighters. Polaris: The Size 6 turret is highly powerful but not designed for targeting smaller, faster ships like fighters. Its reliance on Size 3 turrets for anti-fighter defense limits its effectiveness due to less optimal turret placement and fewer angles covered. --- Conclusion In terms of defending itself against fighters using only energy weapons: The 890 Jump is more effective because of its turret placement, balanced weapon sizes, and tracking capabilities suited for engaging smaller ships. The Polaris, while it has more total energy weapons, is less optimized for anti-fighter defense due to its focus on larger threats and reliance on Size 6 weapons that are less effective against agile targets.

I agree with you 💯 because I'm going to do the same thing. What a beautiful game. lol
same im a solo explorer and i love waking up in ship instead of INN man time to fly is long way
that's what i do with my Carrack, and probably going to be most of what i do with Polaris as well, mobile base life lol
Facts this dude larping on the video overly complicates this. I solo too with polaris just fine in none combat.
Even with all of SC's problems there are those visual moments that make those problems go away for a short period.

Go buy it at "the impound" i paid 600 for mine

Star Citizen can be frustrating at times but this is why so many love this game, no other game gives you this emersion and roleplay capabilities.
So, when do we get an immersive audio battle like you did with the hammerhead turret gunner? dropping torps, torp impacts, PCSs...it would be EPIC!
Never clicked so fast. Thanks for the content Hybrid V!

I do shipping with mine. I easily put 1700 scu into it. Just open the top hangar and use your lift max to toss 24scu boxes up into it. 😂😂😂
great ship but like always bad sounds! thx for the Review
>split the roles on bridge.
Low octane rp slop
I'm thinking of upgrading from Hercules to Polaris.
Is that wise considering that the game is still in the testing phase and does that ship stay with me permanently?
Yeeeeeees I love the Polaris I do hope they improve the torpedoes
The torpedoes are awesome. If you're not getting hits you need to do more damage to your target first. They're not opener weapons, they're finishers.
There are ways to use the torpedoes in battle. You simply slow down. You can get close enough to a ship that it's pdcs don't have time to shoot your torps.

The pdc's on the Polaris literally never work for me, is there something I need to do?
"all power to front shields when firing torps" Retaliator owner.
Leave it to RSI to stumble into a major liability with torpedo mechanics, LOL!
My Polaris PDCs were destroying ships on their own as I just parked the ship and did nothing. Pretty satisfying to destroy shit in this.
Torpedo is long range weapon (30km max range). If you got in gun range please don't use torpedo
I have my Vulture Parked in my Polaris Hangar,,
(and a Fury)
Cig better not be hiking fuel costs =_=

I feel its a bit smaller that concept. Overly detailed exterior.
Dudes lying you can solo literary just restock on ammo via Moby glass when landing. And if not using it for combat you can solo it.
I'm going to solo this beast, and so are a whole lot of players. Some people just hate orgs because some can not separate reality from fantasy.
Good luck with that lol

My initial thoughts using it are it's def not efficent to solo but man it's a damn lot of fun. You can totally do it right now.
Ironic how you cant even look to the north because the compass is bugged half the time LMAO.

890 Jump:
Turret Configuration:

Total Energy Weapons:
4 Size 4 energy weapons + 4 Size 3 energy weapons = 8 energy weapons.
Strengths:
Balanced coverage and consistent firepower from manned and remote turrets.
Size 4 weapons provide decent punch, while Size 3 weapons offer good rate of fire for engaging smaller, more agile targets.
Polaris:
Turret Configuration:
1 manned turret with 2 Size 6 energy weapons.
Multiple turrets equipped with Size 3 energy weapons (exact count varies but typically 4 turrets with 2 weapons each).

2 Size 6 energy weapons + 8 Size 3 energy weapons = 10 energy weapons.

890 Jump:
Turrets are placed to provide good coverage around the ship, allowing for consistent fire against threats from multiple directions.
Size 4 and Size 3 weapons offer a balance between damage and tracking speed, making the 890 Jump more suited for engaging fighters.
Polaris:
The Size 6 turret is highly powerful but not designed for targeting smaller, faster ships like fighters.
Its reliance on Size 3 turrets for anti-fighter defense limits its effectiveness due to less optimal turret placement and fewer angles covered.

Conclusion
In terms of defending itself against fighters using only energy weapons:
The 890 Jump is more effective because of its turret placement, balanced weapon sizes, and tracking capabilities suited for engaging smaller ships.
The Polaris, while it has more total energy weapons, is less optimized for anti-fighter defense due to its focus on larger threats and reliance on Size 6 weapons that are less effective against agile targets.
