The second one in particular, the inning ends when the Pirates first base man tags first base when he's a few steps away with the ball. Instead a runner scores and a guy ends up on second. Send him to the minors.
One thing that I always remember as a player and an umpire is to always think 5 steps ahead of any play. The best coach I ever had taught me to always be mindful of where every play could possibly go. It's a game of chess. Love baseball and I sorely miss playing.
I’m pretty sure the first baseman, who does this for a living, knows that. But it was altuve, doing something outside the routine, that threw him for a momentary mental loop. We are all human, afterall
@@seantimmons5900 Got it, I knew it wasn't a force out at 2nd but I wasn't sure if the runner could still leave the bag once the ball has arrived at the base. I guess our little league coaches told us not to leave the bag cuz we would probably get tagged.
Not all but many of these are simply due to lazy, go through the motion defensive mentality. It's so rare to see offenses actually take advantage of these defensive lapses since baseball is so conservative just waiting for home runs.
Good comp but every time I see these I NEVER see Brendan Ryan's infield triple and I have no idea how it's the greatest smart baserunning move of all time and its never in one of these
more than a few of those were more accurately "negative 1,000,000 IQ fielding"
My exact thought after watching the first one.
pretty sure the first baseman on the second play got sent down to the minors the next day after that play

@@Roller11111 so many chances to end the inning. Step on first, turn around and step on first, tag baez, or better yet... Step on first!
@@dennismonk9559 He ended up in the KBO, and soon washed out even there.
Lesson learned: make sure the bases are covered.
Life lesson for us all
There is an actual saying in Real Life "always have your bases covered" ...... it stems from this Clown Show $h!+ right here!

0:40 all you had to do was touch 1st inning over and that run can’t ever count.
yeah that was just terrible play by 1st baseman

@ I completely agree. I was just pointing out the rule.
Pedroia pulled a Johnny Damon in the first clip
I’ve always said that it takes the full package to be a MLB player. Brains and athleticism.
Note the distinct absence of any Blue Jays.
Historically, the Blue Jays are absent from significance.
@@Jeremo-FD Unless someone is doing a "bonehead baserunning" video.

Amazing how flippin' fast these guys are!
I saw the first one at Tacoma. Same scenario. Full shift. Pitchers hadn’t learned to cover third on the steal.
Shifts are gone, wont see this much now.
So unfortunate, they’re just limiting the game at this point
All head's-up plays but most were errors on the defense.
打者走者がホームベースに戻るのってルール的にありなんですか?戻ったところでセーフになる塁がないんですが
That was funny with the cubs

Was Yellich faster than the fielder? How'd he get to second? That distraction let the other runner get back to first.
Question about the first one: if the second baseman is tagging the bag, why isn't the base runner out when he leaves the bag for third?
It's not a force out. He stole second. You need to tag the runner when he is not touching the base, not the base itself.
Because once the runner is safe at second it's no longer a force play. They'd have to tag him once he left second.

This is why you coach to leave the glove on the runner until ump calls time.
@@Ea-Nasir_Copper_CoIt wasn't a force play before he touched the bag either. He was stealing.
for the 2nd clip couldn't he just step on first base instead of trying to tag the player to get an out?
he can. That was dumb play by the first baseman.
I know the pirates are king fails at times, but my god. How do you run down a first base trot?
Where is Yunel Escobar's run to 2nd with the pincher still holding the ball. Greatest of like all time. 🐐
That was Pirates stupid defense. Touch first, dude.
How can you not include Ellie stealing second, third, and home from 2023?
The worst will always be when Rays are featured in these type of montages. Their stadium is so odd. They should have the clear advantage.
That was just stupidity by the pirates, one guy redeems em kinda

Y’all forgot when Johnny Damon stole 3rd in the 09 World Series
Is this super smart base running or super dumb fielding? Cuz I’m seeing more of the latter

High IQ play? More like sleepy plays by the defence

Nobody did it better than Ricky Henderson.
Smart but not 1,000,000.
I clicked on this video just to see if you were dumb enough to include the Baez play. SMH there is NOTHING smart about that play. For either team.
