How to open doors in a wheelchair

As per the title, this is a quick demonstration and tutorial of how to open different doors in the wheelchair. I left rehab not knowing how to do this, and had to teach myself!

Really helpful thank you. I find A lot of fire doors are really heavy and I'm not strong enough to pull them back. Maybe the momentum would help :)

I'm an engineer and for the last 2 years I've been trying to develop a device to ease this problem for less able wheelchair users to open manual doors as an able body I'm struggling to find a solution to this problem that dosent require the use of awkward rods or clips

Abled bodied persons would never have to make a video tutorial about having to open a door. We really need to step back and rethink how we can make these tasks, which seem mundane to most, completely accessible to everyone and their abilities. I’m currently a student of architecture and in an attempt to design an accessible apartment I realised I didn’t even know how people in a wheelchair would open a door. What can we as designers do to make spaces more easily accessible to all?

My school thought it was a good idea to only have heavy metal doors that have handles too high for a wheelchair
