It’s interesting seeing Norbot so cozy and welcoming with W&G knowing how things will play down in the special. Wish we had something like this in the states
These idents are so nice and cosy. Perfect to have over the Christmas period. It really nice to see and glad you enjoy them. There are definitely more treats in store in the coming weeks...
8:01 I wonder if maybe that's sounding a bit like reused Peter Sallis Wallace audio? I could totally be wrong, and props to Whitehead's Wallace if that's the case. Also, while not Christmas-themed, there were also a few World of Invention BBC One idents.
@@TheHellInspector Probably overthinking it, but I hope it's not because of potential lesser confidence in Whitehead's portrayal or anything like that. I'd assume that they just didn't want to bring him in simply to do a couple minor exclamations in a few idents. Though it's weird as I'm not sure this has happened elsewhere post-Sallis retirement.
@@TomTheyy I think it was moreso that they just had certain sound clips at hand and just decided to use it. They've done it a couple of other times, most notable being the BBC One ident they did when Matter of Loaf and Death released where it switches from Ben Whitehead to Peter Sallis, and another time they reused archive Sallis dialog in Loaf and Death where they take a line from the Project Zoo video game, they've also done it a few more times in World of Invention.
The BBC just confirmed the timeslot for Vengence Most Fowl and it's 18:10. They are also showing the Wallace & Gromit BBC Proms concert that hasn't been shown for 12 years on BBC Four on the 22nd.
As someone who live outside of the UK, it's nice to see it on TH-cam since UK television is different to other countries, plus, I just like Wallace and Gromit in general. I tend to favour UK media over American media since it has a certain charm to it and I think that the UK does Christmas very uniquely. Btw. I love your Christmas decorations.🤩
I've been awaiting you to do a video on the idents since i seen them last night, one of the first things that popped into my head was actually your original video talking about why people associate wallace and gromit with Christmas. great video
I love the Aardman Christmas idents, the Shaun the sheep ones last year I think were great and it's great to see Wallace & Gromit comes this year. Idents have become so dull this past decade or so, Christmas really brings some more interesting ones out
I love the effort you've put in this channel. Also I'm one of the fans who grew up with wallace & gromit but I'm from germany so I honestly gotta say that I'm proud that they have their home in the UK. Sometimes I just watch the Idents & Advertisements just because that's anything close to a movie we've got in years.
My mum saw the TV idents and immediately showed me three separate ones. No doubt she’ll tell me about the other ones she finds. I don’t mind though since it helps build up all the hype. It still blows my mind that the last Wallace and Gromit film was made nearly my entire lifetime ago.
Yo Merry Christmas! It’s finally that time of the year! This definitely feels like that kind of cozy channel for Christmas! And 25 days till the new film I can’t wait! Have you ever thought of reviewing all the shorts and film before the new one comes out?
Merry Christmas to you too! Yes I've thought about it quite a bit, not sure I'd physically be able to review all of them before the film releases, but it should definitely happen at some point.
I like how this video started out calming and then turned into a calming version of Adam Martyn's The Ident Review. I also find it cool that the BBC had let Aardman produce new W&G themed Christmas idents for December this year to lead into their Christmas Day premiere of Vengeance Most Fowl! The previous W&G ones were, from what I can tell, based on the 'Circles' identity package that BBC One had in use at the time and their Christmas idents had to conform to that, but with the 'Lens' identity package the channel currently uses, there appears to be more freedom with the design of the idents as they seemingly don't need to conform to that identity package but just keep the BBC One logo framing the ident (which itself I think is a design element that's part of the BBC's 'Chameleon' design system that the 'Lens' identity package is then designed to conform to). Cool! (9:16) I believe that ident is intended specifically to play before BBC News at One, Six, and Ten.
Good for you fellah. Get that tree up! Christmas Day wouldn't be quite right without W&G and a tree. Even the Idents deserve some sparkle. I wish I commented on this earlier 😭😭‼️ But I'm so glad u reviewed these idents!!!! I love them all sm, but I feel like my favourite has to be the Christmas Jumper one!!! The way Norbot snuggles into Gromit melts my heart everytime!! 😭😭💖💖 Also, with the Christmas Tree one, I think there were a few details u missed. In that ident, Gromit loses his Christmas tree to Wallace's, and kinda spends half of the ident looking a bit like "Yeah, that tree is nice, but what about mine??" Until Wallace puts his hand on his back, and then they both look happy. Also in this one, the 2 children made a Feathers Snowman!! And, in the 3rd one, Gromit actually breaks Wallace's leg off his sculpture whilst looking at the other sculptures 😂😂 And for the BBC2 ones back in the day, I completely agree that Wallace looks terrifying 😅😅 Great review!! 8:04 I could be wrong but I thought this set looked like the one from The Wrong Trousers where the Techno Trousers and Gromit had a walk! Looks similar haha
First Christmas for Aardman since Shaun in 2021. The 1995 ident for A Close Shave still holds up. It wasn't the constant loop that creeped me out, it was the 2 that in the trailer stings had been a terrible house guest being strung up with lights and still, as if the boys had killed and mounted it... The original 30 second cut on the DVD also provides a jump scare at the end, as the music fades out, and Wallace and Gromit suddenly wink at you, then bam! Cut to black. Geez... The point about the loop is illustrated in the Ice Sculpture ident with Norbot replacing the glove again, and again, and again, and, again, and now it's getting unnerving. As ever with these things, it takes a few watches. I didn't spot Feathers in the card until viewing again, and I didn't see him on the tree or in the window until pointed out here. As noted by others, Ben Whitehead doesn't do all the voices for The Big Light Up and Ice Sculpture. Just like with Hutch in Curse of the Wererabbit, the lines are actually archive clips of Peter Sallis. Another fond throwback to Xmases past. The "Ha Ha!" in The Big Light Up is taken from Feathers' defeat in The Wrong Trousers - "Well done! We did it! Ha Ha!", and the "Wahey! Ha Ha!" in Ice Sculpture is from the Soccamatic episode of Cracking Contraptions - "Wahey! Ha Ha! Watch out for me Nobby Stiles, Gromit!" That was the first Cracking Contraptions episode I saw back then, so it definitely got me going. I don't know why the last one was unannounced, seems strange. That one's of course for the news, as per the tradition for BBC1 idents at this time of year. There is always a still, more sombre ident in the set, with softer, quieter, music, so that it's appropriate for the seriousness of the news, and also The King's Speech. I also remember the continuity nod the Doctor Who one from 2009 had. The main ident featured David Tennant's Tenth Doctor messing around in a beautiful Northern Lights backdrop, with just the backdrop and a soft, quiet version of the music for the news, but on New Year's Day, after the episode went out and Tenth had regenerated into Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor, they used the news ident for the rest of the day. Gold Star! Aardman gave themselves extra work with Shaun in 2021, as they had morning, noon and night versions, which all needed a news version without the cast, so six idents in total that year. That's 4 BBC Xmases now for Aardman, 3 with W&G and 1 with Shaun. They own the festive season, now.
An excellent analysis! It's lovely that Sallis' legacy lives on through these archive clips. Great to learn about the ident traditions too, such as the quieter versions for the news. Such effective usage for Doctor Who upon Tennant's regeneration, didn't know that!
Really nice to see Norbot getting along with them but also makes it quite sad when you realise what's going to end up happening in the film. Hopefully he goes back to normal in the end
I was hoping there'd be some idents to go with the return! They look great, and so good to see something like this in 2024, i feel like the art of idents has kinda been lost a bit.
9:17 Don't know if you know, but this fourth ident is what's known as a "news safe" ident, used to introduce the news or other serious programmes where a cheery ident wouldn't be appropriate.
Have you seen the 3 extra BBC iPlayer trailers for VMF? Apparently, they were uploaded last week but I didn't even realise these existed until I was lucky enough to stumble upon them a few hours ago. The trailers are very short (it would be more appropriate to call them teasers), but they managed to feature quite a lot of new footage, so I understand if you don't want to see it or, if you do, 'unsee' it afterwards lol
Yes you're quite right, I've heard about them but wouldn't like to see any more footage now that the "final" Netflix and BBC trailers are out. We're so close! But yeah, TH-cam tends to just wipe out comments with links in them.
While these new idents are really good, the BBC2 Idents from 1995 has always been my favourite of all the Wallace and Gromit Christmas Idents, probably because I really enjoy the retro 2 idents the most out of literally any ident I’ve ever seen 😂
Funny you should mention that, apparently they made it entirely with AI this year, which is pretty awful in every sense of the word. Usually love the Coca-Cola Christmas ads!
So, here in Australia it looks like Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is getting a limited cinema release (probably just one showing) on the 19th dec. Is this happening in the Uk do you know or anywhere else?
From what I understand, it's having a very limited cinema release (at one or two locations next to Aardman), but they still haven't officially announced this.
@@SomeBoiOnline Picturehouse will be hosting screenings of Vengeance Most Fowl in a few of their London cinemas and in Chester from the 18th to the 24th. It is strange that, from what I've seen, they haven't even mentioned this once, and it seems like this reflects in the amount of seats that are still available for these screenings.
Does anyone know if there will be a way of watching Vengeance Most Fowl on Christmas for those who are not located in the UK? (A website or something similar)
Probably not as I haven't heard great things regarding it. Were-Rabbit isn't included, the "4k" is just AI upscaling and the original Wrong Trousers soundtrack hasn't been restored.
@@SomeBoiOnline I've got a good ear for this, it's a mix for sure. The first ident is all Ben, second is Ben then Peter Sallis, and the final is just Peter Sallis.

Just the Coca-Cola ad to get & my humbug mood will crack.
Funny you should mention that, apparently they made it entirely with AI this year, which is pretty awful in every sense of the word. Usually love the Coca-Cola Christmas ads!
Well there's only two words for that.
BAH HUMBUG!!
Merry Christmas do you know what time the new Wallace and Gromit airs on BBC? 🙂🙂
Just looked up the schedule and it says 3:10pm on Christmas Day.
@SomeBoiOnline Awesome thank you 🙂🙂
Update: it's changed to 6:10pm, a much better timeslot!
The BBC will be banking on issuing as many "caught you watching the BBC" demands after this airs 😂
Really needing Wallace and Gromit comfort in this dumpster-fire timeline.
Too true ❤️
Model train from The Wrong Trousers.
Yep!
This popped on my fyp and I knew u would make a video about it! 🩷
Always on the ball with W&G! 😉
Anyone notice Gromits snowman is a tribute to Morecambe and wise?
There's a Penguin snowman in the second ident.
Damn, one got away!
I should recommend you to Adam Martin. He does ident reviews and other content like he reviews “Now that’s what I call” vinyls and CDs
I think the ice scuplture also looks a bit like Bitzer
I suppose it does! 😅
It releases on Netflix on 3rd January
9:24 my opinion nice but errie vibe
Yes somewhere in-between!
Kind of sad the Chicken Run sequel didn't get as much fanfare. Ah well, no need to complain tho. We all do be hyped for our cheese boi Wallace.
I think it's just that W&G are a much bigger thing in the UK, despite the original Chicken Run performing really well worldwide.
will you review the 4k blu ray?
Probably not as I haven't heard great things regarding it. Were-Rabbit isn't included, the "4k" is just AI upscaling and the original Wrong Trousers soundtrack hasn't been restored.
@SomeBoiOnline where did you hear it was an A.I. upscale?
That's definately reused Peter Sallis exclamations
This crossed my mind, but I couldn't be 100% sure because Ben's can sound very close.
@@SomeBoiOnline I've got a good ear for this, it's a mix for sure. The first ident is all Ben, second is Ben then Peter Sallis, and the final is just Peter Sallis.
They've definitely got form for this, with the 2008 idents I distinctly remember hearing both voices, so you're probably right!
I’m annoyed that the new Wallace and Gromit movie is internationally on Netflix January 3
